CHAPTER 234: CHAPTER 234 FINALLY GOT THE MARRIAGE CERTIFICATE (2)
"Let’s eat!"
The old lady had said she wouldn’t interfere with company matters, and it seemed she was determined not to express any opinion, judging from her stern expression. Therefore, Ma Huilian and Shen Jiajia tacitly lowered their heads and ate their meal in silence.
Seeing this, Shen Zixian glanced at Mi Jing, making her scalp tingle with anxiety. Did he misunderstand her again? She was innocent, wasn’t she?
Mi Jing cried out silently in her mind and then gave Shen Zixian a slight smile. She slowly lowered her head to eat, directly ignoring the strange atmosphere at the table.
After dinner, Shen Lingxing returned to the study to continue working, while Mi Jing accompanied the old lady for a walk around the neighborhood before heading back home.
"Sister-in-law."
At the corner on the second floor, Shen Jiajia suddenly appeared, evidently waiting for her.
"Jiajia, is there something you need?" Mi Jing asked calmly.
"I... I..." Shen Jiajia looked at Mi Jing, then lowered her eyes slightly, stammering with a somewhat embarrassed expression.
"Jiajia, do you want to talk about the internship at the company?" Mi Jing waited for a while and, seeing that Shen Jiajia still hadn’t explained, took a guess.
"Yes, yes." Shen Jiajia nodded vigorously.
"Actually, I don’t get involved in work matters, so I’m really sorry, I can’t help you." Mi Jing had already expressed her opinion on the matter before, and since Shen Lingxing had made his decision in front of everyone, she naturally respected it. After the incident at noon, her impression of Shen Jiajia had deteriorated.
"Sister-in-law, please help me. Only you can help me now." Shen Jiajia tugged at Mi Jing’s sleeve, begging.
"Jiajia, I really can’t help you. If there’s nothing else, I’ll be going upstairs." Mi Jing’s tone was firm. As she finished speaking, her gaze fell on Shen Jiajia’s hand clutching her sleeve, waiting for her to let go.
Shen Jiajia bit her lip somewhat forcefully, feeling very frustrated. But since Mi Jing was unwilling to help, she had no other options. They remained in a stalemate for a few seconds before she slowly let go and watched Mi Jing go upstairs, her eyes filled with resentment.
"Why did you bother her if you didn’t have to?" Once Mi Jing’s figure disappeared around the third-floor corner, Ma Huilian emerged from the room closest to the stairs, speaking with a hint of reproach.
"I didn’t expect her to tell my brother!" Shen Jiajia retorted unhappily.
"So what now? A good opportunity is lost just like that." Ma Huilian’s elegance faded, revealing a hint of irritation.
"It’s gone; so be it. There will be other opportunities in the future." After saying that, Shen Jiajia turned and left. With a loud bang, her door slammed shut.
Sigh, why is this child so impatient!
Ma Huilian sighed heavily in frustration. She had ambitions, but in this household, she had no influence at all. Pursuing her ambitions was easier said than done.
On the morning of the seventh day of the new year, Ji Dongquan arrived at Mi Wan’s apartment building by car. After picking her up, he drove quickly to the Civil Affairs Bureau.
"Drive slower!" Mi Wan, sitting in the passenger seat, wasn’t exactly scared, but she felt it was necessary to remind him for safety’s sake. After all, it was rush hour, and there were many cars on the road.
"I can’t slow down." Ji Dongquan was extremely excited, impatient to reach their destination.
Hearing this, Mi Wan said nothing more, knowing it was useless, so she simply remained silent.
Upon arrival at the Civil Affairs Bureau, it wasn’t office hours yet, but since Ji Dongquan had arranged everything in advance, they were escorted inside as soon as they got out of the car.
They went straight to the second floor, and within a few minutes, they received their marriage certificate.
Holding the red booklet in their hands, both felt a mix of emotions. After circling each other for more than a decade, they finally fulfilled their original promise. Despite the twists and turns, and the long wait, they now truly belonged to each other.
Leaving the Civil Affairs Bureau, Ji Dongquan and Mi Wan simultaneously turned back to look at it, then faced each other with a smile, understanding each other without words!
After leaving the Civil Affairs Bureau, Ji Dongquan drove Mi Wan home, happily showing the marriage certificate to the parents. Seeing their happy smiles, their mutual happiness increased significantly.
"Dad, Mom, don’t worry. I will take good care of Wanwan." Ji Dongquan said earnestly to Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru.
"We feel very reassured entrusting Wanwan to you." Mi Zhihong held Fang Qingru’s hand, smiling warmly.
"You two sit here and watch TV. Wanwan and I will cook lunch for you today." Ji Dongquan, in high spirits, said as he pulled Mi Wan up from the couch. The two happily headed to the kitchen.
Watching their hand-in-hand figures, the smiles on Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru’s faces grew wider. Their hearts felt lightened, a burden finally lifted.
"Grandpa, Grandma, should Xuanxuan start calling Mr. Ji ’Daddy Ji’ now?" Xuanxuan observed the adults’ happiness keenly and understood that since Mr. Ji and her mother had gotten their certificate, they were indeed married.
"Uh..."
Suddenly, the smiles on Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru’s faces froze. They were momentarily at a loss for words.
Decades of marriage had made them very in sync. They exchanged a glance, and then Mi Zhihong asked, "Xuanxuan, do you want to call Mr. Ji ’Daddy’?"
Xuanxuan blinked and, after thinking for a while, shook her head.
She felt that she already had a father, and since Mr. Ji wasn’t her biological father, it felt awkward to call him ’Daddy Ji’.
"Well..." After a pause, Mi Zhihong asked gently, "Would you want to call him ’Daddy Ji’?"
Hearing this, Xuanxuan became conflicted. Her little eyebrows furrowed together like two caterpillars crawling on her forehead.
"Do you not want to?" Fang Qingru asked cautiously, afraid to upset Xuanxuan.
"If Xuanxuan calls Mr. Ji ’Daddy Ji’, will it make Mom happier?" Xuanxuan asked innocently.
At this, Mi Zhihong and Fang Qingru were taken aback once more, feelings turning complex.
"Will it? Will it make Mom happier?" Seeing them remain silent, Xuanxuan asked again.
"Yes." Fang Qingru nodded seriously, moved by Xuanxuan’s thoughtfulness but also not wanting to pressure her.
"Then Xuanxuan will call Mr. Ji ’Daddy Ji’ from now on." Xuanxuan decisively said, then turned and ran into the kitchen. She approached Ji Dongquan and asked cheerfully, "Mr. Ji, can Xuanxuan call you ’Daddy Ji’ from now on?"
