CHAPTER 292: CHAPTER 292: RELUCTANT TO LET ME GO
So Mu Bai is feeling sorry for Xing’er! No wonder he didn’t look happy when they arrived.
"Xing’er, you take a good rest, I’ll go check out the baby with your brother." Mi Jing didn’t dare glance at Mu Bai, gave one quick instruction, and pulled Shen Lingxing out of the room, heading to the nursery to see the newborn.
Because of the premature birth, the baby needs to stay in a small incubator. A newborn, tiny, with features not quite distinct yet. But through the transparent glass, looking at the baby’s face, Mi Jing thought he looked quite like Mu Bai, definitely a handsome boy when he grows up.
Deng Deng——
In the quiet space, the sound of high heels scraping the floor was getting louder as it approached. At this moment, all of Mi Jing’s attention was on the baby in the incubator, not noticing who was coming. But Shen Lingxing, possibly out of professional habit, frowned, seemingly dissatisfied with the disturbance!
Turning around, Shen Lingxing’s cold gaze fell on two middle-aged women. Seeing that the newcomers were Mu Bai’s mom and aunt, the severity in his expression did not soften, he sternly said, "Aunt, please maintain silence in the hospital. Your footsteps are too loud."
"Uh..." At the moment Shen Lingxing turned around, the joy on Mrs. Mu’s face froze for a second. She wanted to greet him, but Shen Lingxing’s reprimand was faster. Hearing this, her smile turned awkward for a moment, then she forced a laugh, "Just became a grandma, too excited, hehe, I’ll be careful next time."
The joy of welcoming a new life into the family, Shen Lingxing could fully empathize with. Watching the baby in the incubator, the coldness on his face quickly dispersed, gradually becoming gentler.
"Aunt, the baby looks a lot like Mu Bai." Hearing their conversation, Mi Jing turned around, smiling to break the slightly awkward atmosphere.
"Yes, yes, I think the baby looks like our Bai too." Having heard many say the baby looks like Xing’er, it was rare to meet someone who shared her view, making Mrs. Mu enthusiastically agree, then she turned her smiling face to Mu Bai’s aunt, Mrs. Su, "Aiping, you should take a look."
Saying this, Mrs. Mu, still immersed in joy, eagerly pulled Mrs. Su towards Mi Jing, completely unaware of the bewildered and complex expression on Mrs. Su’s face when she saw Mi Jing.
"Sister-in-law, who is this?"
"Huh?" Mrs. Su asked calmly, but Mrs. Mu felt it a bit abrupt. Stunned for a moment, she then introduced with a smile, "This is Ling Xing’s wife, Jing."
"Hello, I’m Bai’s aunt, Su Aiping." Before Mrs. Mu could introduce Mi Jing, Mrs. Su quickly but calmly introduced herself to Mi Jing. At the moment, her face bore a kind smile, displaying a very approachable demeanor.
"Hello, Aunt Su," Mi Jing greeted with a smile.
"Jing, are you a local?" Mrs. Su’s focus remained on Mi Jing as she asked.
Mi Jing thought it was a very usual inquiry, and answered with a smile, "Yes."
"Are your parents also from Jin City?"
"Yes," Mi Jing nodded without hesitation.
Isn’t Aiping here to see the baby? Why is she so curious about Jing?
Noticing Mrs. Su’s abnormal behavior, Mrs. Mu couldn’t help but glance at her in confusion, then turned her puzzled gaze to Shen Lingxing, only to see him also looking at Mrs. Su with eyes full of curiosity and inquiry. Clearly, he was as puzzled as Mrs. Mu about why Mrs. Su was so curious about Mi Jing.
"Aiping, have you met Jing before?" Mrs. Mu asked curiously.
Upon hearing this, Mrs. Su lowered her head, a strange cold light flashed in her eyes. The next second, she masked her emotions and raised her head, smiling, "I don’t know if I’ve seen Jing somewhere before, she looks kind of familiar."
Have I?
Listening to Mrs. Su’s words, Mi Jing tried hard to recall, but her mind was blank, she had no impression of Mrs. Su at all.
"People have lookalikes, Aiping, you might have mistaken her," Mrs. Mu said.
"Mm, maybe," Mrs. Su answered absent-mindedly. After she spoke, she glanced at Mi Jing with the corner of her eye.
In a while, Shen Lingxing and Mi Jing were the first to leave the nursery. Mrs. Su appeared to be looking at the baby in the incubator, but her mind was occupied with her own thoughts, so much so that she didn’t hear a word of what Mrs. Mu said to her.
"Aiping, Aiping?" Mrs. Mu happily said many things, but Mrs. Su did not react at all, looking lost in thought. Seeing this, Mrs. Mu lost interest in talking.
"Hmm?" It took several seconds before Mrs. Su came back to her senses, her expression slightly dazed.
"What are you thinking about? Since seeing Jing, you haven’t been yourself." Earlier they were chatting and laughing, but after encountering Shen Lingxing and Mi Jing, Mrs. Su seemed to lose her soul, making Mrs. Mu doubt the truthfulness of her earlier claim of not knowing Mi Jing.
"Nothing really, just thinking hard about when and where I might have seen Jing. But the more I think, the less I recall. Sigh, getting older, my memory isn’t as good as it used to be." Mrs. Su reacted calmly, speaking with a tinge of melancholy in her expression.
"If you can’t remember, don’t overstress. It’s not something important, you’re just troubling yourself," Mrs. Mu advised.
"You’re right," Mrs. Su agreed with a smile, but her eyes drifted to Mi Jing, who was already walking away with Shen Lingxing, her gaze turning cold instantly.
A few hours later, Chu Chen indeed delivered Ruan Pianran back to Cili. Along the way, Ruan Pianran spent most of her time sleeping, and Chu Chen didn’t disturb her. When she woke up and saw the familiar buildings outside the car window, the first thought that entered her mind was - time flies!
Rubbing her eyes, Ruan Pianran glanced at Chu Chen beside her. Despite still feeling irritated by him, she found herself harboring less resentment.
No matter how annoying he was, he had spent several hours driving her back. Remembering he hadn’t had breakfast, Ruan Pianran softened, opened her bag, took out two individually wrapped French bread rolls, and handed them to Chu Chen, "Would you like to eat something?"
"Driving, not convenient," Chu Chen looked ahead, a stark contrast to his usual carefree demeanor, focused on driving as he answered.
"How about we stop by the roadside? Let’s find a place to eat first," Ruan Pianran suggested.
"You want to treat me to a meal?" Chu Chen turned his face, glanced at Ruan Pianran, with a playful smile on his lips.
Yes, that’s right. Given that he drove her all the way back, she wanted to treat him to a meal. But hearing it from him, it felt particularly uncomfortable! Suddenly, she regretted suggesting it.
