CHAPTER 295: CHAPTER 295: GIFT (2)
No one knows a daughter better than her mother. Listening to the housekeeper’s urgent words, Mi Wan quickly noticed Xuanxuan’s intentions. However, she did not expose her but implicitly agreed to her not going to kindergarten.
"Mom, I think I have a cold. My head still feels dizzy. Can I not go to kindergarten today?" The soft morning sunlight burst in through the windows, spreading brightness, and casting warmth. Under Mi Wan’s gentle call, Xuanxuan opened her sleepy eyes, hugged her quilt, and pouted, acting spoiled towards Mi Wan.
"No."
Upon hearing this, Mi Wan immediately put on a stern face and said seriously, "You haven’t gone to kindergarten for two days already."
"But I’m really not feeling well," Xuanxuan said pitifully, with a bitter face. After saying that, she symbolically coughed twice.
"Xuanxuan, when did you learn to lie?" Mi Wan’s tone became more severe, mixed with stern reproach.
"I... I didn’t lie; I really have a headache and don’t feel well." Xuanxuan hugged the quilt to cover her face, glanced at Mi Wan guiltily, and then weakly whispered in a small voice.
"... Then get up quickly, I’ll take you to the hospital to see a doctor." Mi Wan paused for two seconds, her tone softened, and she gently stroked Xuanxuan’s head.
Go see a doctor?
Xuanxuan nervously widened her eyes, thinking if the doctors would find out she wasn’t really sick, her mom would surely know she was lying for real!
Thinking of this, Xuanxuan became even more nervous, her heart beating wildly. She hurriedly said, "Mom, Xuanxuan doesn’t want to go to the hospital!"
"Why?"
"The hospital smells bad, and Xuanxuan is afraid of injections and medicine." Xuanxuan had said the same thing to Mi Wan the day before yesterday. At that time, Mi Wan didn’t say anything, immediately agreeing to let her stay home and rest. So Xuanxuan brought out the same excuse again, hoping to achieve the same effect as before.
But Mi Wan, as clever as she was, could certainly see through Xuanxuan’s thoughts!
"If you’re sick, you must see a doctor, get injections, and take medicine. Otherwise, like you now, your illness won’t get better for several days." Mi Wan did not want to blame Xuanxuan excessively. She has always been well-behaved. Not wanting to go to kindergarten now meant something must have happened to make her reluctant to go to school. Thus, Mi Wan did not rush to condemn Xuanxuan’s actions but decided to first understand the situation.
"Mom, actually..." Xuanxuan paused, bit her lip, and said, "Actually, Xuanxuan is not really very sick, just a bit dizzy. A nap will make it better."
"You’ve already slept for two days. If you sleep any longer, you’ll turn into a fool." Mi Wan sternly said, deliberately scaring Xuanxuan.
Turn into a fool?
With that statement, Xuanxuan immediately imagined He Zerui’s face, recalling his previous nasty behavior. Suddenly, her heart skipped a beat. If she turned into a fool, who knows how that bad boy would bully her?
"Then Xuanxuan will go to kindergarten." With no options left, she didn’t want to go to the hospital or turn into a fool. Xuanxuan had no choice but to go to kindergarten.
"Xuanxuan, are you hiding something from mom?" Looking at Xuanxuan’s disappointed little face, Mi Wan sat on the bed and asked tentatively.
"No! Xuanxuan has nothing to hide from mom." Xuanxuan responded unusually quickly, answering immediately without thinking. This hasty reaction made it more suspicious.
"Really?"
"Of course! Xuanxuan would never lie to mom." Xuanxuan answered with great certainty without any guilt, because she knew she was telling a benevolent lie now.
The teacher once said that to avoid making those around us feel sad, it is okay to tell some benevolent lies.
But no matter how calm Xuanxuan appeared, she could never deceive Mi Wan. On the contrary, the more confident Xuanxuan was, the more Mi Wan felt something was amiss. Nonetheless, Mi Wan did not continue to probe. Since Xuanxuan did not want to talk, pressing on would only make her more rattled.
"Our Xuanxuan is the best girl." Mi Wan lovingly stroked Xuanxuan’s little head again, then picked up the clothes beside the bed, saying, "Change your clothes quickly; if you dawdle any longer, you’ll be late."
"Xuanxuan can change clothes herself, mom. You go downstairs and have breakfast first." Xuanxuan stood on the bed, reached for the clothes Mi Wan was holding, and said with a bright smile.
"Alright."
Since Xuanxuan could walk, Mi Wan had purposefully fostered her independence. Though very fond of Xuanxuan, she never overly indulged her. Any task Xuanxuan could do herself, Mi Wan always let her complete on her own. Thus, when Xuanxuan offered to change clothes on her own, Mi Wan naturally agreed happily.
Influenced by Gu Can, Xuanxuan’s movements to change clothes had become quite swift. It took her only two minutes to change, then she brushed her teeth, washed her face, cleaned herself up, and even momentarily carried her little schoolbag downstairs with brisk steps.
"Mr. Ji!" Seeing Ji Dongquan sitting at the dining table, Xuanxuan’s eyes instantly brightened like shining stars, joyfully asking, "When did you come back? Did you bring any gifts for me?"
"I came back last night; the gift is in the room." After a good night’s sleep at home, Ji Dongquan’s fatigue from the previous night was gone, and he looked invigorated, gazing at Xuanxuan on the stairs with faint adoration in his brows.
"Wow, that’s great! Can I go to your room and get it now?" After a joyous cheer, Xuanxuan stopped in her tracks, looking expectantly at Ji Dongquan.
"Of course." Ji Dongquan nodded happily.
"Mr. Ji is the best!" Upon hearing this, Xuanxuan immediately grinned from ear to ear, instantly putting thoughts of school behind her, eagerly running upstairs.
"Xuanxuan, you’re going to be late for school." Watching Xuanxuan’s cheerful figure, Mi Wan couldn’t help but remind her.
"..."
Xuanxuan’s steps didn’t stop, seemingly not hearing Mi Wan’s reminder, she purposefully headed straight for Ji Dongquan’s room.
The master bedroom was large, spacious, and fully equipped. However, it seemed Ji Dongquan had intentionally placed the gift in a noticeable position. Standing at the doorway, Xuanxuan scanned the room quickly, soon spotting two exquisitely wrapped boxes on the table.
Are both of them for her?
Gazing at the gifts on the table, Xuanxuan’s eyes sparkled.
What could they be?
Curiously, Xuanxuan wondered, impatiently wanting to unwrap the gifts but unsure if both were hers or just one. So, she grabbed both gifts, holding one larger box in one hand and a smaller box in the other, and ran downstairs.
"Mr. Ji, Mr. Ji, are both these gifts for me?" Xuanxuan braked suddenly beside Ji Dongquan, stopping in her tracks and asking breathlessly.
