CHAPTER 299: CHAPTER 299 I WANT MOMMY (2)

"I’m worried that Mom will hear what they’re saying. I don’t want Mom to be sad." After a moment of silence, Xuanxuan voiced the worries buried deep in her heart.

"Auntie shouldn’t hear it. They are just whispering and wouldn’t say it in front of Auntie," Lili comforted.

"But..." Xuanxuan faltered, still feeling down. Although she was young, she already knew that whispers and rumors are hard to hide because she couldn’t control what others say. She couldn’t determine what people would say at what time and place, so she could only try her best not to let Mi Wan come to the kindergarten, thus avoiding those who liked to speak ill of others.

Ring ring——

The class bell rang suddenly, and both Xuanxuan and Lili’s steps halted. "Class is starting, let’s go back to the classroom," Xuanxuan said.

With that, the two turned around and walked towards the classroom direction. Compared to those kids running to the classroom, the two of them seemed much more relaxed and calm.

"Lili." As they walked, a voice called from ahead. Following the sound, Xuanxuan and Lili saw the teacher standing at the office door.

"Lili, could you come over for a moment?" the teacher called again.

"Xuanxuan, you go into the classroom first, I’ll go to the teacher." Saying this, Lili ran off.

Back in the classroom, Xuanxuan walked to her seat under the peculiar stares of everyone. She tried hard to ignore their gazes, took out her textbook, and kept her eyes fixed on the pictures in the book for a long time.

Outside the classroom, Lili was talking to the teacher in the hallway. Their voices were low, and even though some kids stretched their heads out from the classroom, trying to eavesdrop, they couldn’t hear anything.

"Lili, the teacher wants to ask you for a favor," the teacher said, looking at Lili’s cute face.

"What’s the favor?" Lili asked curiously.

"It’s about Xuanxuan and Liu Junkai. The teacher wants you to persuade Liu Junkai not to tell his parents about his argument with Xuanxuan."

"Me? Persuade Liu Junkai? Will he listen to me? Teacher, why don’t you talk to him?" Lili asked, puzzled.

"The teacher has already talked to him, but he’s quite emotional and wouldn’t listen to me." Children’s emotions were mostly written on their faces, and the teacher had noticed the different way Liu Junkai looked at Lili. But this budding feeling, the teacher didn’t want to break it or cause any trouble for them. She simply wanted to use the most effective way to handle things and avoid having parents get involved, making the situation even more complicated.

"Will it work if I talk to him?" Lili doubted her own ability.

"Even if it doesn’t work, you should give it a try, for Xuanxuan’s sake."

"Alright, I’ll give it a try." Considering Xuanxuan, Lili agreed without hesitation, because when she was most unhappy, it was Xuanxuan who stayed by her side, talking and playing with her. Now that Xuanxuan was unhappy, she naturally wanted to do her best to cheer her up.

Despite feeling down, time continued to move forward. Accompanied by the sound of the bell, school was over for Xuanxuan.

"Song Jinxuan."

Xuanxuan packed her things, put on her backpack, and was about to leave when suddenly Liu Junkai called out from behind.

"What do you want to say now? Haven’t you said enough?" Xuanxuan turned around irritably, glaring at Liu Junkai.

"I..." Liu Junkai didn’t get angry at Xuanxuan’s questioning. Instead, his face stiffened uncomfortably, awkwardly saying, "I... I wanted... to..."

"Hurry up!" Seeing Liu Junkai speaking hesitantly, Lili couldn’t stay still, urging him softly.

"I..." Hearing her voice, Liu Junkai glanced at Lili. Meeting her expectant eyes, his face quickly flushed with a hint of redness. Feeling his face heat up, he panicked and turned away, quickly saying sorry to Xuanxuan before grabbing his backpack and running out of the classroom.

What’s going on?

Liu Junkai’s sudden apology took Xuanxuan by surprise. Watching his chubby figure run off, she turned to Lili, "What’s wrong with him?" Just a moment ago, he looked like he wanted to fight her, but now he apologized?

"Maybe he realized his mistake," Lili guessed, pretending not to know.

"Really?" Xuanxuan doubted, looking at Lili, "Did you say something to him?"

"Yes." Lili hesitated for a moment, then nodded and admitted.

"What did you say to him?"

"I told him we could play together from now on. We’re all classmates; there’s no need to be unhappy."

Play together?

Hearing this, Xuanxuan instinctively felt a little resistant. But thinking carefully, there wasn’t a need to hold a grudge against Liu Junkai. Her mom said that those who realize their mistakes and change should be forgiven.

Getting Liu Junkai’s forgiveness made Xuanxuan feel a bit better, and a rare smile finally appeared on her face.

During after-school hours, the kindergarten entrance was exceptionally busy. When Xuanxuan and Lili reached the gate, Lili’s mom had already arrived, so Lili went home first. Xuanxuan stood alone in a corner waiting for Mi Wan to pick her up.

"Xuanxuan."

Among the bustling crowd, a familiar voice called out. Xuanxuan looked up and saw Song Guotao, whom she hadn’t seen for a long time, through the stainless steel gate. Suddenly, her expression tightened, and a faint resentment showed in her eyes.

"Xuanxuan, come out. Dad is here to pick you up," Song Guotao said affectionately, waving despite noticing Xuanxuan’s coldness towards him.

"Oh, isn’t that Xuanxuan’s dad?"

Following Song Guotao’s words, the next second, Xuanxuan’s ears caught a surprised female voice. Instantly, her expression turned more severe.

The kindergarten often hosted parent-child activities, so Xuanxuan knew most of her classmates’ parents, and the parents weren’t strangers to each other either.

For a moment, Song Guotao drew some attention. Several passing parents looked at him with sympathy, then glanced disapprovingly at Xuanxuan, as if she’d done something terribly wrong.

"I’m not going home with you. I’m waiting for Mom." Xuanxuan walked to the gate, her face cold, and said to Song Guotao through the hollow steel bars.

"Xuanxuan, don’t you want Dad?" Song Guotao squatted down, his face pained and hurt.

"..." Although her Mom wanted a divorce because Dad made a mistake, she was angry at his irresponsibility and for making Mom a bad woman in other’s eyes. Even so, she didn’t want to abandon her Dad. She was just still upset and didn’t plan to forgive him anytime soon.
