CHAPTER 304: CHAPTER 304: KABI’S FOOD CRAVINGS
"Uh-huh." Li gave Mi Wan a grateful smile, then nodded vigorously, not daring to glance at Ji Dongquan.
"Uncle Li, my mom makes the best sweet and sour ribs and chicken wings. You must eat more." Ji Dongquan’s low shout had not only scared Li but also startled Xuanxuan. Being a warm-hearted child, she sensed Li’s nervousness and took on the role of a little hostess, speaking with childlike innocence.
This child is just too adorable!
Looking at Xuanxuan, Li’s heart melted, and his eyes almost started showing little hearts.
"Okay, okay." Li’s mouth almost reached his ears as he tried hard to show his friendliness.
Pervert!
Seeing Li staring intently at Xuanxuan, He Zerui, who had been quietly eating, flashed a look of impatience. He lifted his eyelids and shot a cold glare at Li.
Feeling a strong sense of oppression, Li’s smile instantly froze on his face. He glanced at the source of the oppression, his heart fluttering wildly, and dared not speak again. He pretended to be calm as he picked up some food and ate silently.
Big meanie, what are you doing scaring people!
When He Zerui was giving Li the death glare, Xuanxuan noticed immediately. Without wasting a second, she glared at He Zerui in dissatisfaction. Then, she eagerly picked up some food and placed it on Li’s plate, her well-behaved and sensible demeanor making Mi Wan very pleased.
After dinner and a slice of birthday cake for He Zerui, Ji Dongquan and Li left. He Zerui enjoyed peace and quiet, so he didn’t join Mi Wan and Xuanxuan for a walk; instead, he stayed in his room to read.
The moonlight was serene, and the evening breeze fresh. The comfortable feeling that swept over them made Xuanxuan and Mi Wan slow their steps.
"Xuanxuan, am I causing you trouble?" Mi Wan looked up at the bright moon in the night sky and asked a bit melancholically.
"How could you be? Mom doesn’t cause Xuanxuan any trouble at all." Xuanxuan stopped in surprise, then quickly looked up, her big, dark eyes staring at Mi Wan.
Hearing this, Mi Wan’s heart suddenly felt like it was being squeezed by an invisible hand, spreading a faint pain.
When she decided to marry Ji Dongquan, she mostly considered her own feelings and neglected the pressure Xuanxuan would have to endure. Only after encountering problems did she realize this. But Xuanxuan, not wanting to make her mother sad, chose to hide it and simply bear the gossip herself.
As a mother, she hadn’t protected her daughter well. Instead, she made her daughter protect her, causing Mi Wan to feel both ashamed and guilty.
"I already heard from your teacher." Mi Wan led Xuanxuan to a nearby bench, then said guiltily, "Xuanxuan, I’m sorry that you had to suffer."
"Xuanxuan didn’t suffer." With that, Xuanxuan lowered her head and whispered, "It’s Mom who suffered. They don’t know our situation and just say bad things about you! I hate them so much!"
"Haha."
At this moment, Mi Wan shouldn’t have laughed, but she couldn’t help chuckling at Xuanxuan’s last sentence, her mood lifting quite a bit.
"Mom is fine. No matter what others say, I don’t care as long as you understand me, Xuanxuan." Mi Wan pulled Xuanxuan into her side, smiling gently.
"Of course, I understand you, Mom." Xuanxuan gazed intently at Mi Wan.
"Yes, I knew you would, because you’ve always been such a good and understanding child." Mi Wan softly patted Xuanxuan’s shoulder.
"..."
Though Mi Wan often praised Xuanxuan for being understanding, hearing it now still made her happy. She didn’t say anything, just smiled silently.
The neighborhood was busy with people out for a walk in the evening. Mi Wan had lived here for several years, and even if she wasn’t close with the neighbors, they had at least seen each other before. Previously, when she went out for a walk, they would greet each other. Some who were more familiar would stop to chat. But now, they would avoid her, point fingers, and judge her behind her back.
Sigh!
Mi Wan silently sighed. She didn’t care how others saw her, but she had to consider Xuanxuan’s feelings. Being a sensitive and understanding child, Xuanxuan naturally didn’t want to hear others calling her mother a bad woman. Her fighting with her kindergarten friends over this was a prime example.
"Xuanxuan, let’s go back," Mi Wan said.
"Okay." Xuanxuan stood up, then scanned her surroundings, calling out to Kabi who was hovering nearby, "Kabi, time to go home."
Hearing this, Kabi immediately ran over to Xuanxuan, stood on its hind legs, and cutely stuck out its tongue.
Xuanxuan loved Kabi’s adorable look, and pointing ahead, her voice softened, "Kabi, you lead the way."
"Woof."
Kabi barked once, seemingly in response to Xuanxuan. The next second, it landed on its front paws and gracefully led the way.
"Mom, don’t you think Kabi is the smartest dog in the world?" Xuanxuan looked at Kabi’s snow-white figure, then turned to Mi Wan, her eyes gleaming with pride and joy.
"Haha, maybe not the smartest," Mi Wan chuckled lightly, "The world is big, with many impressive people and dogs. But Kabi is definitely the smartest dog I’ve ever seen."
As soon as Mi Wan finished speaking, a white shadow darted towards her. Looking closely, it was Kabi running to her side, rubbing its head against her leg endearingly.
"Kabi, do you know we’re praising you?" Xuanxuan let go of Mi Wan’s hand, walked around her to Kabi, then crouched down and gently stroked its head.
"..."
Kabi remained silent, half-closing its eyes, enjoying Xuanxuan’s touch. Clearly, it didn’t understand what she was saying.
"Kabi, I wish you could understand us." Xuanxuan whispered to Kabi.
Even though Xuanxuan’s voice was low, Mi Wan could hear every word clearly. This wasn’t the first time Xuanxuan had expressed such a wish, showing her deep affection for Kabi and her desire for a companion to talk to. Finding it hard to socialize with He Zerui, she valued such a friend.
Knowing how close Xuanxuan is with Cancan, Mi Wan asked, "Xuanxuan, is Cancan going to Auntie’s to learn painting this weekend?"
