CHAPTER 702: CHAPTER 702: ENCOUNTERING A SAVIOR

Jasper Sinclair braved the rain and got out of the car, fiddling with it outside.

Although he found the source of the problem as he wished, he had no tools to fix the car, which was as good as useless.

By the time he climbed back into the car, he was drenched, in a state of utter disarray.

His long coat and trousers were soaked like they had just been washed, and wringing them out yielded nothing but water.

Nora Northwood handed him a towel to dry his dripping hair, "There’s clean clothes in the suitcase, change into them first, otherwise you might not even make it back before catching a cold."

"It’s not that easy to catch a cold; it’s not like the home gym is just for show."

Just as Jasper finished speaking, he sneezed twice consecutively.

The irony was almost too quick to bear.

Just when they thought they’d have to spend the night in the car, the flashing lights of an approaching vehicle sparked their hope.

A black car behind them was inching forward at a tortoise’s pace.

Seeing hope, Jasper naturally wouldn’t let it pass. He eagerly said to Nora, "You wait here, whatever you do, don’t get out. I’ll go check it out."

"Be careful then."

"After I get out, lock all the car doors and windows. In a moment, if you hear ’going to grandma’s,’ then come out with an umbrella, but if you hear ’to Crimson Hill Villa,’ stay put."

Nora sensed the seriousness and gravity in his expression, feeling a mix of emotions inside.

Immediately after, Jasper got out of the car and intercepted the slowly moving vehicle in the middle of the road.

The only umbrella was left with Nora by him.

The newly changed clothes were once again soaked, with wet strands of hair sticking to his forehead, obscuring his original features.

In the torrential rain, Jasper raised his voice and shouted, "Give us a lift, and there’ll be a hefty reward once we reach the city. I can even drive for you."

Inside the car was a young couple, roughly the same age as Nora. Faced with someone charging out unexpectedly, they merely lowered the window, an expression of caution on their faces.

Evidently, they had no desire to meddle in this affair.

Jasper resorted to a desperate measure, grabbing the person inside through the passenger window, "Sorry, but if you won’t help us out, then we’ll all be stuck here together."

He apologized while threatening them.

Polite, but not excessively so.

The couple inside, frightened, agreed to Jasper’s request, and the woman took responsibility for fetching Nora.

After they left, Jasper naturally settled into the passenger seat.

The sound of rain was incessant, unmistakably mixed with the girl’s sobs.

A few meters away, Nora saw that the person approaching was a girl and let down her guard.

She lowered the car window a crack, and through the glass, the other girl told her, "We’re taking you to grandma’s house."

Nora discerned the oddity in the girl’s tone, simply assuming she was scared by the storm, and followed obediently.

Once back in the car, they discovered that Jasper had become the driver.

Inside the car, the atmosphere was strange.

Nora attempted to engage the young couple to ease the tension.

They remained silent, and not only that, but the looks they gave her were as if they were seeing some kind of monster.

Nora vaguely realized it was Jasper’s influence.

As the vehicle descended the mountain, mobile phone signals resumed, and the rain weakened considerably.

Nora turned her face slightly, asking the man focused on driving, "Should we call for someone to pick us up?"

"No need, we’ll find a place to rest nearby soon."

Their conversation took on a different connotation in the couple’s ears.
