CHAPTER 139: CHAPTER 139: I WOULD LIKE TO INTRODUCE MY WIFE TO EVERYONE

Silas Sheffield started with an opening speech.

Below the stage, Mandy Lynn was staring wide-eyed, murmuring to herself: "So the rumors weren’t exaggerated at all."

As she spoke, Mandy wanted to make Evan Grant jealous, so she deliberately praised Silas Sheffield.

"Silas Sheffield’s face is really more handsome than the top male celebrities in the industry. He could easily rely on his looks alone, yet he managed to elevate the Sheffield Group to its current position with his own abilities. Such an outstanding and handsome man, no wonder so many women are captivated by him."

After saying this, Mandy sneaked a glance at Evan, hoping to catch a hint of jealousy on his face.

However, Evan remained indifferent, ignoring her words, his gaze fixed on Clara Sterling in the distance.

Mandy clenched her fists, growing more envious.

After Silas finished his opening remarks, his gaze softened, and a slight smile appeared on his lips as he looked in a particular direction among the crowd below the stage.

"Today, I have an announcement to make..."

Thea Tate followed Silas’s line of sight and saw Clara Sterling from across the room making eye contact with Silas.

Thea’s heart tightened suddenly, her eyes trembling.

Could it be that Silas is going to publicly reveal his relationship with Clara Sterling tonight?

No way!

He can’t announce it, people can’t know that Clara Sterling is Silas Sheffield’s wife, the lady of the Sheffield Group.

Earlier, she had been ambiguous in front of the guests, leading them to believe that she and Silas were about to get serious.

If Silas were to announce that he and Clara were married, where would that leave her face?

In the brief span of a second, Thea’s mind raced wildly, and she immediately grabbed Diana Dawson beside her, quickly whispering in her ear: "Pretend to faint."

"Huh?" Diana looked puzzled, not comprehending.

Thea spoke quickly: "Pretend to faint right now, twenty thousand!"

Everyone in the room was intently watching Silas on stage, curious about what he was going to announce, and no one noticed Thea whispering to Diana.

Silas began to speak slowly: "I would like to formally introduce to everyone..."

Suddenly, there was a commotion in the crowd.

"Oh no, someone has fainted!"

"Call 911!"

On stage, Silas’s words were interrupted before he could finish.

At first, he thought someone had genuinely fainted, frowning as he personally stepped off the stage to check.

The crowd parted to make way as Silas approached, seeing Diana Dawson on the ground and instructing someone to call 911 quickly.

"Please move aside, I’m a doctor," a male voice called out.

Elliot Yardley walked over, glancing at Silas questioningly.

Silas gave a slight nod, indicating Elliot should proceed with the examination.

Elliot knelt down beside Diana, checking her pulse and flipping her eyelids, then exhaled in relief.

"Are you okay?" Elliot asked softly.

Diana didn’t respond, continuing to feign unconsciousness on the floor.

Though she didn’t understand why President Tate suddenly told her to faint, it didn’t matter.

The important thing was that pretending to faint would earn her twenty thousand.

This kind of easy money was naturally appealing to her.

Elliot stood up, leaning in to whisper to Silas: "President Sheffield, she’s pretending to faint."

A cold glint flashed in Silas’s eyes.

He had heard from Clara that Diana had issues with her.

Diana’s feigned fainting now was a transparent scheme, one he understood fully.

Silas was about to expose her.

Before he could speak, Lisa Holloway, who was watching with interest, suddenly screamed, "Ah! Cockroach! There’s a cockroach on Diana, help get it off her!"

"Ah—" Diana suddenly sprang up from the ground in a reflexive move. "Ah, cockroach! Where is it?"

Diana looked pale and panicked.

Having worked together for so long, Lisa knew Diana was terrified of cockroaches.

Besides, she’d never seen Diana faint from low blood sugar at the company.

Just earlier, Diana had been jeering at Clara Sterling and looked in great spirits, not the least bit unwell—suddenly fainting was suspicious.

Lisa had a lightbulb moment, deciding to bluff Diana with the cockroach.

And it worked like a charm.

On hearing that a cockroach was on her, Diana’s instincts kicked in, her body reacting faster than her mind could process as she stood up.

Everyone present was taken aback, the scene freezing in awkward suspension for a few seconds.

A flood of laughter erupted.

Only then did Diana realize she’d been tricked, glaring angrily at Lisa: "What’s wrong with you?"

Lisa shrugged, "Nothing’s wrong with me; what’s wrong with you? If nothing’s wrong, why pretend to faint?"

Diana was filled with embarrassment.

Silas’s expression was frosty, his eyes like a frozen lake.

Diana didn’t dare meet his gaze.

Silas said nothing, merely giving a look to someone nearby.

The person immediately understood, walking over with a stern face, speaking to Diana: "Ma’am, please come with me."

Diana looked for help where Thea had been, but Thea was nowhere in sight.

As soon as Diana’s fake fainting was exposed, Thea hid herself among the crowd.

Silas returned to the stage to continue his interrupted speech.

Diana was led towards the door of the banquet hall.

Just as she took a few steps, she heard Silas say slowly: "Today, I would like to formally introduce my wife, the lady of the Sheffield Group..."

Thea’s heart skipped a beat, her face turning pale, her fingernails digging into her palm.

Isaac Sutton’s brow furrowed deeply, his eyes darkening.

Silas Sheffield’s wife?

Could Clara really be...

Evan Grant and Mandy Lynn were both shocked upon hearing this—Silas Sheffield was already married? Why hadn’t anyone heard before?

Anabelle Spencer and Lisa Holloway looked expectant, grinning as they awaited the dramatic unveiling of Clara Sterling as the lady of Sheffield.

Julian Hawthorne stood below, eyes narrowing, feeling a surge of unwarranted irritation.

Not just them, every guest at the anniversary and all the company employees were in an uproar.

No one knew Silas Sheffield was married!

Silas paused subtly for a few seconds, then calmly continued, "Now, please welcome my wife to the stage."

Everyone turned unanimously towards the banquet hall doors.

They expected the lady of the company to walk in gracefully from the entrance.

However, the doorway was empty.

It was Clara Sterling who, with elegant poise, in her crystal high heels, made her way onto the stage.

The crowd erupted in noise.

Silas extended his hand towards Clara, the usually cool and aloof man now looking at her with gentle eyes, his lips curving into a smile.

"Everyone, please meet my wife, the lady of Sheffield Group, Clara Sterling."
