CHAPTER 37: CHAPTER 37: DOES SILAS SHEFFIELD LIKE HER?

The kiss ended, and both of them were a little out of breath.

"Alright, go to sleep." Silas Sheffield’s voice was husky, with desire swirling in his eyes.

Clara steadied her breath and reached out to open the door.

Suddenly, she froze completely.

"What were you two just doing?" Sophie Sheffield’s eyes were mischievously intrigued. "I knew you couldn’t fall asleep so early; there’s definitely something going on. Confess!"

"You... why haven’t you left yet... I..." Clara Sterling stammered, her small face flushing.

"I just saw my brother’s room door open and he wasn’t inside, so I had some suspicion, ahem, turns out I guessed right." Sophie teased, giggling, "I knew there was something between you two. My brother is cold to everyone, but when you came home late last time, he was so anxious and went out to find you himself, I knew something was off, and sure enough..."

Silas Sheffield stood inside the room, tall and imposing, with the lustful look in his eyes already faded.

He reverted to his usual cool demeanor, and simply said, "As you’ve seen."

Sophie was shocked, "You two are together?"

Clara Sterling didn’t know how to answer this question.

If she said they were together, she and Silas Sheffield hadn’t actually dated officially; it was unexpected.

If she said they weren’t together, they were already legally married and recently very close.

She hadn’t decided how to respond when Silas answered for her, "Yes."

"No way! When did you get together? Why didn’t you tell me? Oh my gosh, I’m shocked for a million years!"

Sophie shouted exaggeratedly, shaking Clara’s shoulders.

"Aren’t we best friends? Why didn’t you tell me, I’m so upset that you kept such a big secret from me!"

Clara was dizzy from the shaking.

Silas reached out to remove his sister’s hand, "Don’t shake her."

"Wow! A miracle! You’re actually protecting someone?" Sophie was shocked, "Are you really my brother?"

Silas pushed Sophie aside, didn’t answer her question, and just looked at Clara and said, "Since she’s seen it, you might as well tell her. After all, we’re all family."

"Alright." Clara nodded and looked at Sophie, "It’s a long story."

Sophie’s eyes sparkled with gossip, "No matter how long, I want to hear it!"

"Okay then..."

"You guys talk." Silas stepped past Sophie and out the door, returning to his own room opposite.

Sophie excitedly squeezed into Clara’s room, "Quick, tell me in detail what’s going on between you and my brother, I’m dying to know!"

Clara explained the whole story to Sophie.

After knowing the truth, Sophie was shocked, "Whoa, you two are already married!"

"Yeah..." Clara was a bit anxious.

Sophie realized if she knew about it, Mr. and Mrs. Sheffield would probably soon find out too.

What if they didn’t agree...

Sophie pondered for a while and said seriously, "I think my brother has ulterior motives. There’re many ways to help you, lending money directly would be easier, why insist on marriage?"

Clara pursed her lips and said, "Silas said the family is pressing him to get married; he needs a wife."

"You actually believe that?" Sophie laughed, "If my brother doesn’t want to, no one can force him. Last time, my mom arranged a blind date for him, and he directly turned her away."

Continuing, Sophie suddenly understood, "So you two were already married when my brother was set up with a blind date?"

"Yes."

"I thought something was odd." Sophie realized, "Now everything makes sense. He used to visit The Veridian Branch once a year, but this year he’s already been there twice in three months; it’s obviously for you."

Clara waved her hand, "No, Silas said there’s an important project here that requires his attention."

"Clara, you’re too easy to deceive, you believe anything my brother says." Sophie chuckled slyly, "I think he just likes you and makes excuses to be near you."

"No way, didn’t you say he couldn’t let go of his first love?"

"Thea Tate?" Sophie pondered again, rubbing her chin, "Well... maybe he’s over it already? During the last blind date, he said he liked someone, he must’ve meant you."

Clara was stunned, "How could that be..."

"Why couldn’t it be? You two are already married, after all. I think he definitely likes you!"

That night, Clara couldn’t sleep.

She tossed and turned in bed, replaying the words Sophie had said in her mind.

"I think my brother has ulterior motives..."

"I think he just likes you and makes excuses to be near you."

"You’re already married, I think he definitely likes you!"

Clara’s mind was swirling with thoughts, feeling confused and chaotic.

Could Silas like her?

She didn’t dare to think about it.

Recently, they have indeed grown closer; he would actively kiss her.

But Clara thought that was because Silas was stimulated by Isaac Sutton, leading to possessiveness.

Unable to understand, she even went online to search "does liking someone lead to possessiveness," but got mixed responses.

Some believed liking leads to possessiveness.

Others believed there is no necessary connection between the two.

Clara sighed and turned off her phone.

...

Sophie promised Clara to keep it a secret and not tell their parents for now.

After clarifying the matter, Clara felt relieved and more carefree at home.

Clara never gathered the courage to ask Silas about his feelings towards her.

Sophie wanted to help her ask, but Clara stopped her.

She was afraid of hearing an answer she didn’t want.

Right now, she seems to have feelings for Silas again.

If he doesn’t have her in his heart, she would experience another heartbreak.

A few days later, Clara wanted to visit her mother in the hospital.

Silas drove her there personally.

Clara was fully equipped with a hat, sunglasses, and a mask, thoroughly covering herself.

Isaac Sutton hadn’t given up yet. After being discharged, he lingered at the hospital entrance daily.

Seeing a familiar figure step out of a Maybach, Isaac Sutton stared for a while before looking away.

Isaac thought, although the figure resembled Clara, that couldn’t be Clara.

That person came out of a Maybach, and given Clara’s family situation, even if married, there’s no way she’d marry someone driving a Maybach.

Isaac continued his vigil at the hospital entrance, waiting.

Unbeknownst to him, the person he was waiting for had already entered the hospital right under his nose.

His phone rang, and Isaac answered: "Did you find out? Is Clara Sterling married?"

"Young Master Sutton, I confirmed she is indeed married."

"Who is the man?"

"Um... I can’t tell."

"How’s that possible? You can’t find out?"

"The man’s identity information is blocked."

"Then what about Yvonne Sterling’s ward number?"

"I can’t find that either; the hospital’s confidentiality measures are excellent, and the other party’s connections are stronger than ours, so..."

"Stronger than the Sutton Family’s connections?"

"Yes, Young Master Sutton."
