Flash Marriage With Mr. Sheffield: Go Away, Cheap Man!
Chapter 41: She Doesn’t Dare to Wish for Silas Sheffield’s Heart
CHAPTER 41: CHAPTER 41: SHE DOESN’T DARE TO WISH FOR SILAS SHEFFIELD’S HEART
Clara touched her face, "Huh? Really? Maybe it’s because it was stuffy with so many people in the elevator just now."
Lisa Holloway: "Your workstation is over here, follow me."
"The entire 27th floor belongs to our department," Lisa Holloway led Clara inside, "This side is the office area, and that side is the rest area, with a pantry, guest room, and snack zone."
"This is your workstation, next to mine," Lisa Holloway pointed to an office not far away, "That’s our director’s office, the director is our immediate superior."
Saying this, Lisa Holloway winked at Clara, "Our director’s name is Julian Hawthorne, a really handsome guy. He’s not here today, but you’ll see him tomorrow."
At this moment, a man with a cup of coffee walked over from the pantry area.
"It’s you?" The man paused, looking Clara up and down, "Oh, so you’re the new assistant."
Lisa Holloway coldly snorted, "The director asked me to mentor her, Jonah Shaw, you better not bully the newbie."
"Hah," Jonah Shaw gave a disdainful smile and returned to his workstation.
Lisa Holloway said to Clara, "Just ignore him, we’re both director’s assistants, we’re on the same level, you don’t need to care about his attitude."
Clara smiled slightly, "Alright, thank you, Lisa."
Lisa Holloway handed a document to Clara Sterling.
"Take a look at this first, it’s some of the daily tasks we need to handle, ask me if you don’t understand anything."
"Alright." Clara took the document and started reading.
A few minutes later, the department admin came over and dropped off some forms for Clara to fill out.
After filling them out, the admin gave Clara a work badge and took her to record her fingerprint for access.
The admin said, "I’m Sarah Cheney, the admin of our department. I’ll introduce you to the colleagues since you will interact with them for work."
"Alright."
Sarah Cheney led Clara to meet the colleagues.
"Good morning, everyone, this is our department’s new colleague, Director’s Assistant Clara Sterling."
Clara smiled and greeted everyone, "Hello everyone, I’m Clara Sterling, pleased to meet you all."
"Hello."
"Hi there."
"Hello Clara."
"Wow, another new colleague in our department and such a beauty, we’re in for a treat."
"Hahaha, look at you."
"The new colleague really is a beauty."
Sarah Cheney smiled and said, "They’re all very easy to get along with, our department has a pretty good atmosphere."
Clara smiled, "I can tell."
Except for Jonah Shaw, everyone else seemed alright.
Sarah Cheney said, "Then go ahead and get to work. The director asked Lisa to guide you, if there’s anything you don’t understand, just ask her, Lisa is a nice person."
"Okay." Clara returned to her workstation.
Not much work on the first day at work.
Clara organized two tables, learned from Lisa Holloway how to take meeting notes and arrange the director’s schedule, and similar simple tasks.
Soon, it was time to get off work.
Clara went to the subway station just like in the morning.
After dinner that evening.
Sophie Sheffield and Clara were sitting in the living room chatting.
"Clara, how was your first day working at my company?"
"Pretty good, the colleague who walked me through was very nice."
Clara didn’t tell Sophie Sheffield about Jonah Shaw pushing her in the elevator.
If they were ordinary best friends, Clara might have complained along with the conversation, but Sophie Sheffield’s identity was special; she’s the heiress of the Sheffield Group and now her sister-in-law.
If she mentioned it, with Sophie Sheffield’s personality, she might stand up for her.
Then everyone would know she’s the Sheffield Group’s CEO’s wife.
If that happened, she wouldn’t be able to work normally at the company.
Clara joined Sheffield by her own merit; she just wants to work steadily, earn a promotion, and a raise based on her abilities, and not enjoy people’s flattery and flattery under the title of Mrs. Sheffield. And get gossiped about for taking shortcuts.
Sophie Sheffield suddenly said, "Clara, I’m going back to Crestwood the day after tomorrow."
"Huh? Why so sudden?"
Sophie Sheffield laughed and said, "Now that you’re married to my brother, it’s not right for me to stay here as a third wheel."
"What are you talking about, having you here with me makes me happier, don’t say you’re a third wheel, besides, Silas and I are just agreement spouses..."
Sophie Sheffield laughed, "Just kidding, you know, my jewelry company headquarters is in Crestwood, I have to go back to work."
Saying this, she got serious again, "Clara, although you and my brother started as agreement spouses, you should believe me, my brother must’ve developed feelings for you."
Clara pressed her lips together, lowered her eyes, and said nothing, feeling conflicted inside.
Silas Sheffield is the unattainable man, a man out of reach for her.
He’s willing to be in an agreement marriage, pay her mother’s medical bills, and provide the best medical resources, and she’s already very satisfied.
She doesn’t dare to hope Silas Sheffield has feelings for her.
...
After showering in the evening, Clara spent some time writing her thesis.
She closed the laptop when a knock came on the door: "Knock knock knock..."
"Come in."
The door opened, and Silas Sheffield walked in.
"Silas," Clara’s eyelashes fluttered slightly.
Silas Sheffield: "From now on, let the driver take you to the company."
"No need, it’s too troublesome, I can just take the subway."
The man chuckled, "Can’t even get into the elevator?"
"Well..." Clara awkwardly tugged at her lips, "I didn’t know there would be so many people."
"I bought you a low-profile car for commuting, it won’t draw too much attention," Silas Sheffield handed her a car key.
Clara stared at the car key, the logo on it indeed represented something economical and affordable, completely incomparable to the luxury cars in Silas Sheffield’s garage.
It was indeed low-key.
But buying a car specifically for her commutes seems a bit extravagant?
For a wealthy person, buying a car is like buying a head of cabbage.
Clara intended to refuse, but thinking Silas Sheffield had already bought it, she accepted it.
"Thank you, Silas."
Silas Sheffield reached out and ruffled Clara’s hair, "No need to say thanks between family."
Family...
The man’s warm, broad hand made Clara’s heart stir with a hint of sweetness.
She suddenly felt that being married to Silas Sheffield was actually quite good.
He truly was a very considerate and good husband.
Unfortunately, they were just in an agreement marriage, in name only...
...
The Sutton Family.
Isaac Sutton was still unmarried and hadn’t moved out yet, so he still lived with his parents.
Quinn Hughes also lived with the Sutton Family.
This evening, Isaac Sutton again didn’t come home for dinner.
At the dinner table, Mrs. Sutton, Judy Bishop, looked coldly at her future daughter-in-law, Quinn Hughes, "Where’s Isaac? Why isn’t he back for dinner again?"
Quinn Hughes lowered her head modestly, "Mom, I don’t know either."
Judy Bishop angrily said, "You’re his fiancée; you don’t know? Is he seeing that Clara again? Call him and tell him to come home!"
Quinn Hughes took out her phone and called Isaac Sutton.
The call went unanswered.
Judy Bishop said coldly, "Call again!"
Quinn Hughes made two more calls, still unanswered.
"He’s not answering my calls," Quinn Hughes said helplessly.
Judy Bishop was displeased, "How can you not control your own man? You’re Isaac’s fiancée, and you’re supposed to get married soon after graduation, can’t you control him now?"
Quinn Hughes lowered her gaze, not daring to retort.
Her father, Benjamin Hughes, had undeniable evidence of his crimes, with a trial due in a few days. Everything valuable in their family had been taken by her mother, and the remaining immovable assets had been confiscated.
Now she was homeless and could only stay with the Sutton Family, living at their mercy.
Before her family’s troubles, Judy Bishop liked her a lot, always praising her intelligence and beauty, saying she was the future daughter-in-law of the Sutton Family.
But now, with her family gone and living with the Sutton Family after being formally engaged to Isaac Sutton, her future mother-in-law, Judy Bishop, was constantly displeased with her, criticizing her at every turn.
Even though it was Isaac Sutton who was flighty, indecisive, having a fiancée yet still entangled with an ex, and hardly home.
But Judy Bishop doesn’t blame her son and instead takes out her frustration on Quinn Hughes.
Quinn Hughes can only endure, not daring to talk back.
"Alright, why are you talking to her like that, it’s your son who’s never home." Mr. Sutton, Graham Sutton, spoke, "Eat your meal and say less."
