CHAPTER 43: CHAPTER 43: DIVORCE HIM, GET BACK TOGETHER WITH ME

"No." Clara Sterling spoke honestly.

"I saw it, and you still won’t tell the truth?" Isaac Sutton clearly didn’t believe her. "If he’s not your husband, why was he waiting for you in the parking lot?"

Isaac Sutton sneered, "Don’t tell me you hailed this car. Where do you see taxis and rideshares picking people up in underground parking lots these days?"

"If you don’t believe it, forget it." Clara didn’t want to say much more to Isaac and opened the backseat door to get in.

Isaac grabbed Clara’s wrist, "Clara, let’s talk."

"There’s nothing to talk about."

"Divorce him and get back with me." Isaac said with mysterious confidence. "I can give you a better life."

Clara’s gaze turned icy, "If you don’t let go, I’m going to call the police."

Isaac released her hand, "Clara, what’s better about your husband than me? Why won’t you divorce him?"

Clara scoffed through her nose, staring directly into Isaac’s eyes, enunciating each word: "You can’t even compare to one of his hair strands."

Isaac was provoked.

He pointed incredulously at driver Linton, "Him? You say I can’t even compare to one of his hair strands? Clara Sterling, you’re really saying whatever it takes to anger me!"

Driver Linton, who had been terrified to speak, thought inwardly: Why am I involved again?

"Does Quinn Hughes know you’re still entangled with me?" Clara’s lips curve into a mocking smile.

"Clara, you know already..." Isaac’s expression changed, "I’m being forced by my parents to get engaged to her. It’s not my choice. My heart only belongs to you."

"Whoever’s in your heart has nothing to do with me."

Clara got in the car, swiftly shut the door, and instructed the driver, "Drive."

Isaac slapped the car window, "Clara, listen to my explanation. I’m going to call off the engagement with Quinn Hughes. You..."

Before he finished speaking, the car started and drove off.

Isaac chased a few steps but couldn’t catch up, so he turned to find his own car, hoping to drive after her.

But when he got in the car, the previous vehicle had long disappeared.

...

Clara returned to Prospect Hill Villa and went upstairs to take a shower.

Downstairs in the courtyard.

Driver Linton reported to Silas Sheffield, "President Sheffield, today when I picked up Mrs. Sheffield, there was a man harassing her."

"That man called Mrs. Sheffield ’Clara,’ and he mistook me for President Sheffield, asking her to divorce and reconcile with him."

Sawyer Sheffield’s eyes turned sharp, coldly saying, "Understood."

After the driver left, Silas immediately made a phone call, "Find some trouble for Graham Sutton’s company."

"Okay, President Sheffield."

...

Isaac Sutton returned home, and there was Quinn Hughes waiting for him in the living room.

Seeing him enter, Quinn smiled and approached to take his coat, gently saying, "Isaac, you’re back. Have you eaten? If not, I’ll ask auntie to make you something."

"No need." Isaac’s attitude was cold, not even glancing at Quinn as he walked straight upstairs.

"Wait." Quinn grabbed Isaac’s hand.

"Isaac, let’s talk."

"What do you want to talk about?" Isaac asked coolly.

"I... why haven’t you been coming home for dinner lately? Mom’s been angry."

Isaac saw Clara and her "husband" today, and in every way, that man couldn’t compare to Isaac, yet Clara refused to divorce him.

Being rejected by Clara already put him in a bad mood.

Now, coming home and being bothered by Quinn only added to his annoyance.

Isaac, looking impatient, said, "I’m already this grown; you still care if I come home for dinner? What’s the matter? You can’t eat without me?"

Quinn lowered her stance, "I didn’t mean it like that. It’s just that I don’t get to see you often, and I miss you."

"What are you missing me for?"

"You’re my fiancé, of course I miss you."

"Don’t." Isaac said coldly, "I don’t miss you."

Quinn clenched her fists tightly, "You’re still thinking about Clara Sterling, aren’t you?"

"What if I am?" Isaac gave her a cold glance, "I’ve said before that Clara is the one I truly care about. I’ve said I’m calling off the engagement."

"Haha..." Quinn laughed bitterly, her eyes shattered. "Back when you were with her, you claimed to love me. Now you’re with me and insist that you like her."

"Isaac Sutton, you actually don’t love anyone; you only love yourself."

...

Clara’s second week on the job, Wednesday.

The department had just completed a perfect project, and everyone was very happy.

Clara had also been involved with the project and would receive some commission.

Just as Clara was feeling joyful.

Jonah Shaw suddenly spoke with a smile, "Assistant Sterling, why don’t you invite everyone to dinner tonight to celebrate?"

"Me?" Clara pointed to herself, appearing utterly bewildered.

"Yeah." Jonah smiled, "You just started, so you might not know, but our department has an unwritten rule that newcomers have to treat everyone to a meal."

Clara’s gaze turned cold, "What kind of stupid rule is that?"

Silas Sheffield’s company still has such bully-the-newbie rules?

Jonah Shaw acted as if it was serious, "To find your footing in the company, you’ve got to sacrifice a little. When I first got here, I treated everyone to coffee. Trust me, if you treat everyone to dinner they’ll all like you, and President Hawthorne will see you more favorably, giving you more high-commission good gigs in the future."

Once he finished speaking, several colleagues immediately started to urge with teasing smiles.

"Yeah, yeah, Jonah is being considerate. Clara, why don’t you treat everyone to a celebratory dinner tonight?"

"Jonah’s right. When he first arrived, he really treated everyone to coffee, so Clara, you should show some sincerity and treat everyone to dinner too."

"That’s right. We’re all colleagues in the same department. If you treat us to a meal, it’ll help us build a good relationship, and work will be more effortless."

"Our Assistant Sterling looks like a generous and straightforward person. It shouldn’t be a problem to treat everyone to a meal, right?"

"Exactly, Clara. Newcomers treating everyone to dinner is essential to build good relationships."

Clara wasn’t foolish enough not to see through it; Jonah was deliberately making things difficult for her, and these urging colleagues just wanted to take advantage of her.

They were indeed skilled.

On one hand, they praised her as generous and straightforward, putting her on a pedestal to make her feel embarrassed to refuse; on the other, they subtly warned that without treating everyone to dinner, she couldn’t build good relationships.

Lisa Holloway couldn’t help but speak up to defend Clara when she saw them bullying her, "Don’t be like this. Clara is still an intern and hasn’t graduated yet. How much money can she have?"

"We can choose a cheap restaurant."

"Yeah, yeah, no need to insist on a fancy meal. I think that barbecue place near the company is nice; we can buy group coupons."

Jonah Shaw said with a smile, "Right, surely Assistant Sterling wouldn’t be so strapped that she can’t even treat us to some barbecue?"
