Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 114: He Didn’t Make You Pay
CHAPTER 114: CHAPTER 114: HE DIDN’T MAKE YOU PAY
James Grant suddenly laughed and lightly flicked Evelyn Clayton’s nose with a graceful finger.
"I will stand by your side."
"Ding~"
Another message notification sounded.
Keith Donovan sent a message confirming that the person from last night was Clara Yates, matching the license plate at the parking lot.
He also casually mentioned that the Yates Family had recently wanted to cooperate with The Donovan Family on a project, and if James Grant wanted to teach Clara Yates a lesson, they could just withhold the project from the Yates Family.
James Grant’s face suddenly darkened. Evelyn Clayton looked at him curiously, "Is there something tricky going on? You should go if you need to."
"It’s nothing, just some work arrangements."
James Grant smiled, leisurely taking a bite of the tofu pudding from Evelyn Clayton’s spoon, successfully stopping her from further questioning.
——
In the deputy general manager’s office of the Yates Group, Clara Yates was humming a song.
She had just secured two projects, earning significant praise from her father, and she wondered if her sister dared to show off in front of her again.
However, her joy ended the moment Lynn Yates pushed the door open.
Lynn Yates, dressed in a black suit with her hair tied up high and wearing oxblood red lipstick, exuded a powerful aura.
Even though Clara Yates had long been dissatisfied with her, she instinctively stood up immediately upon seeing her.
"Clara Yates, this project was a sure thing. Why did The Donovan Group suddenly call and say they wouldn’t cooperate anymore?" Lynn Yates stood with one hand on her hip, angrily throwing the project proposal on the table.
Clara Yates quickly opened it and was baffled, "Didn’t they all agree to it?"
"How old are you? A verbal agreement means nothing. A contract is only valid when signed in black and white!" Lynn Yates pointed her finger at Clara Yates’s nose and scolded, "Since this project is ruined, explain it to Dad yourself. I’m not cleaning up your mess."
"Come on, sis, help me out!" Clara Yates, realizing something was wrong, quickly pulled Lynn Yates down to sit, massaging her shoulders and pounding her back.
Lynn Yates chuckled coldly, "Who’s in charge of The Donovan Group?"
"Keith Donovan. I’ve been negotiating everything with him on my previous visits."
"How was his attitude?"
Clara Yates recalled for a moment, "Pretty good. Lots of laughter. We even discussed the final few percentage points of profit."
"You still don’t get it?" Lynn Yates shook her head, surprised at her cluelessness.
"If Keith Donovan was willing to negotiate, it meant he wanted to cooperate. Now that he doesn’t, it’s definitely because of someone else. Let me ask you, have you offended someone close to Keith Donovan recently?"
Clara Yates immediately denied, "No!"
"Think carefully. Who could make Keith Donovan change his decision?"
The only ones could be someone close to The Donovan Family or James Grant.
Clara Yates’s mouth gaped open, "No way..."
Could it be that James Grant, because of Evelyn Clayton, didn’t want Keith Donovan to let Yates Family do the project?
"No way what? Who did you think of?" Lynn Yates slightly relaxed her brows.
If she knew the reason, perhaps the project could see a turnaround.
"Nobody." Clara Yates licked her lips nervously, avoiding Lynn Yates’s eagle-like gaze.
Feeling incapable of handling such a poor teammate, Lynn Yates really wanted to roll her eyes.
"I don’t care what method you use, you must reclaim this project! It’s up to the one who tied the knot to untie it, go apologize to whoever you need to! Otherwise, you’ll have to go explain to Dad yourself. I won’t cover for you."
With those words, Lynn Yates slammed the door and left.
"Always threatening me, why don’t you go negotiate the project yourself if you have the guts." Clara Yates threw a pillow with a gloomy expression, "Just because you’re a year older than me, why are you the general manager, and I can only be the deputy general manager?"
No matter how envious she was of Lynn Yates, she had to solve the immediate problem first.
——
After breakfast, Evelyn Clayton finally regained her energy.
Soon, she suggested returning to the studio.
"I’ll go back and discuss with Yara Reagan where we can squeeze out some money to get over this hurdle first."
It wasn’t that she couldn’t pay; she just didn’t want to, making it particularly painful.
"Who told you to compensate?"
"President Jiang did."
Evelyn Clayton had already one foot in her shoe, seemingly still somewhat reluctant.
After a while, James Grant, nonchalantly tapping the table, leisurely spoke, "He didn’t say you guys need to compensate."
