CHAPTER 14: CHAPTER 14: THE LITTLE GIRL WHO’S TOSSED ASIDE AFTER USE

The two of them arrived at the doorstep, and Evelyn Clayton was about to enter the password.

But James Grant suddenly placed his hand on the door panel, his eyes dark and hard to read as he curved his lips, "We’re already at the door, aren’t you going to invite me in for a bit?"

Evelyn Clayton held her hand on the lock, looking up with a forced smile that didn’t reach her eyes at James Grant.

"It’s late, I won’t disturb Eldest Young Master Grant and his beauties from their party!"

"What party is more important than you?" James Grant’s voice was low, like the sound of a pleasant cello, tugging at the listener’s heartstrings.

He lifted his other hand, brushing aside the stray hair by Evelyn Clayton’s ear, tucking it behind her ear.

The slightly cool fingers brushed against Evelyn Clayton’s ear, making a small area break out in goosebumps.

Evelyn Clayton trembled slightly, her attention unintentionally following James Grant’s movements.

The tall man before her bent slightly, exhaling lightly by her ear, the tingly sensation feeling almost electric.

"Really not letting me in? I did tirelessly serve you last night, don’t you have the heart to let me stand in the cold wind?"

Evelyn Clayton’s gaze flickered evasively.

The close-up of James Grant’s face was almost a visual attack, so close she could even count his long eyelashes.

Just as James Grant’s lips were about to fall again, Evelyn Clayton suddenly came to her senses and slapped his hand away.

"If you don’t want to stand in the cold wind, go home early!"

Evelyn Clayton swiftly pressed the password, pushed James Grant aside, and opened the door.

As she closed the door, she smugly curled her lips, "Goodbye, Eldest Young Master Grant!"

"Bang!"

James Grant looked at the tightly closed door, pouting helplessly.

"What a cold-hearted little girl, using and discarding!"

Evelyn Clayton leaned against the other side of the door, letting out a long breath.

James Grant might not have the best character, but with looks like that, he’s truly enchanting.

She almost couldn’t hold herself back!

She patted her chest, calming her racing heart.

When she looked at her phone, it was filled with messages from Yara Reagan, asking about the situation last night.

She briefly said a couple of words, but couldn’t fight the fatigue and drifted off to sleep.

The next morning, Evelyn Clayton was awakened by the sound of knocking.

With a fuzzy head, she peeked through the peephole and saw that it was Yara Reagan.

Evelyn Clayton opened the door, and Yara Reagan walked in, unable to suppress her curiosity.

"Things got so big yesterday, is your engagement called off yet?"

Last night on the phone, Evelyn Clayton had fallen asleep after saying only half.

Yara Reagan was concerned about the outcome since it related to her good friend’s happiness, so she came early to Evelyn Clayton’s place to ask.

"No!" Evelyn Clayton frowned, her drowsiness fading a bit. "Funny thing is, after such a mess yesterday, with no regard for face or reputation, the Grant Family still refuses to call off the engagement. What exactly are they hoping for?"

Yara Reagan was amazed by what she heard, paused for a moment, and shared her thoughts.

"Isn’t there a possibility? They might feel that after you dumped Matthew Sullivan, you immediately clung to James Grant, which could harm the Grant Family’s reputation and easily cause a rift between the brothers because of you. That’s why Uncle Grant disagrees! Families like the Grant Family value face the most!"

Evelyn Clayton found it a little reasonable but still couldn’t completely convince herself.

"But Matthew Sullivan is an illegitimate child; he never had a good relationship with James Grant. Does Harrison Grant really expect them to be like brothers one day?"

"No matter how bad the relationship is, didn’t Matthew Sullivan return to the Grant Family?" Yara Reagan pointed out sharply.

Evelyn Clayton was silent for a moment, yet she still felt something was off.
