Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 3: She Really Did Sound Pretty Good
CHAPTER 3: CHAPTER 3: SHE REALLY DID SOUND PRETTY GOOD
"What, do you want me to help you get dressed?" Noticing her little glances, James Grant lightly curled his lips, "It’s not impossible."
"Get lost!" Evelyn Clayton’s face was tense as she fastened the last button, grabbed her bag, and hurriedly walked out.
James Grant, with his hands in his pockets, followed behind her with an extremely pleased expression on his face.
Evelyn Clayton had just opened the door when she ran into Matthew Sullivan coming out of the room next door.
Both were momentarily stunned, and Evelyn quickly pushed James back into the room and slammed the door shut.
"You—" Matthew snapped back to reality, and after his gaze fell on Evelyn’s neck and collarbone, he stepped forward, grabbed her chin, pulled open her collar, and was instantly enraged when he saw those suggestive marks.
"Evelyn Clayton! Have you no shame! Which random guy were you fooling around with last night?"
"What’s it to you? You have no right to meddle in my affairs." Evelyn violently slapped his hand away, not even bothering to give him another glance, and was ready to leave.
She stopped Matthew and James from facing each other not because she cared about him being her fiancé, but to avoid unnecessary trouble.
After all, Matthew causing a scene meant just him causing a scene, but involving James Grant would make things far from simple.
"I have no right?" Matthew blocked her path, furious, eyes reddened, his voice raised several octaves, "Don’t forget we have an engagement! I am your fiancé! Of course, it’s my business if you’re fooling around with another man behind my back!"
"Oh?" Evelyn sneered, her mocking gaze landing on Matthew’s room door, "And what were you up to in the hotel last night?"
Matthew’s expression changed. He didn’t dare to meet Evelyn’s gaze and avoided answering, merely demanding, "Open the door! Let that random guy come out, I want to see who that bastard is!"
"Opening the door is fine." Evelyn casually flicked her nails, pointing her alabaster fingertip at Matthew’s door and said indifferently, "As long as you open your room first, let me see the woman who spent the night with you?"
"What nonsense are you spouting!" Matthew stiffened his neck, his words stubborn, yet his demeanor grew increasingly guilty, "I was alone last night!"
This evasive behavior was quite unlike his usual act of shamelessly bringing women in front of her to disgust her.
Apparently, he knew full well how much she despised Iris Lockwood, her stepsister.
Not long after her father’s death, her mother married her stepfather, Philip Lockwood, bringing her along.
From childhood to adulthood, to please her stepfather and stepsister, her mother’s attitude toward her was utterly indifferent, ignoring her, allowing Iris to bully her mercilessly.
If not for Philip wanting to leverage her engagement to the Grant Family, she probably wouldn’t have survived this long.
By high school, Iris was leading classmates to bully her even more.
Desks covered in obscenities, textbooks, and assignments torn to shreds, dead snakes and mice stuffed in her drawer, dirty water thrown at her, locked in the bathroom all night...
Countless other vile actions.
She didn’t know why Iris and her cohort’s bullying eventually stopped.
But even though this bullying occurred over only half a semester, it left indelible psychological scars.
Matthew was well aware of this because he had once coldly watched her being bullied.
Yet now he wanted to entangle himself with Iris.
So Evelyn felt there was nothing to fear about tearing things apart with him.
"Alone? Then was the woman moaning all night a ghost?" Evelyn watched Matthew’s slightly flustered expression and laughed mockingly, "I have to say, her voice was quite pleasant."
