Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 46: I Was Attacking Evelyn Clayton
CHAPTER 46: CHAPTER 46: I WAS ATTACKING EVELYN CLAYTON
James cursed under his breath. The reporters had blocked the alley so tightly that it was impossible to drive the car out now.
He was really hoisted by his own petard this time.
Fortunately, Evelyn didn’t kick him while he was down. She immediately took out her phone to search for tonight’s entertainment news.
"Turns out Cindy Owens attempted suicide at home tonight, discovered by her agent, and has already been taken to the hospital."
Evelyn frowned. The news article for tonight only had two pictures, one of Cindy Owens lying in the ambulance, and one of her on a hospital bed.
In both photos, Cindy Owens had impeccable makeup, and her hair was styled.
How could someone like that possibly commit suicide?
James glanced through it and noticed something amiss. "Leave this to me. I’ll have Quentin come over. He’ll take you home first."
"What about you?" Evelyn pointed at the crazed reporters outside. "If you go down there, they’ll eat you alive, won’t they?"
"Let them try."
James’s tone was calm, but the murderous intent was unmistakable.
It was the first time Evelyn was shaken by his hostility, leaving her momentarily speechless.
With the reporters outside like hungry wolves, even someone as strong as James couldn’t face them alone.
Evelyn’s heart softened for a moment. "I’ll go down with you."
James looked at her and nodded. "Stay close to me."
"Okay."
James got out of the car first and navigated through the crowd blocking his path to open the car door for Evelyn on the other side.
The reporters’ microphones were instantly pushed towards them. "Director Grant, Ms. Clayton, are you aware of Cindy Owens’ suicide due to your love triangle? What are your thoughts on this matter?"
James’s face darkened, exuding an intimidating presence. "Did Cindy Owens personally say she committed suicide because of a love triangle? Where’s the interview clip?"
"Uh... it’s just our speculation. Earlier, the rumors about the three of you were all over the place, and Cindy Owens attempted suicide now. Such speculation seems quite plausible, don’t you think, Director Grant?"
A daring reporter edged closer to James, almost shoving the microphone into his face.
At this point, who cared about the consequences?
If he could get firsthand information on the scandal involving James, Evelyn, and Cindy Owens, his position at the newspaper would be secure.
Seeing James protecting Evelyn, the fearless reporter pushed the microphone forward again. "Ms. Clayton, do you have any thoughts? Do you feel guilty about Cindy Owens?"
Evelyn found it laughable and was about to speak when suddenly a bottle flew through the air.
Just as it was about to hit Evelyn’s head, James immediately raised his hand to deflect it.
"Who?!"
"Director Grant, it’s this person." Quentin, who had rushed over, pulled a woman out from the crowd. She wore a baseball cap and sunglasses, making her hard to spot amongst the reporters.
Quentin removed her cap. "Who sent you to attack Director Grant?!"
"I’m not attacking James Grant, I’m attacking Evelyn Clayton!"
The woman screamed hysterically, looking at Evelyn like she was her enemy.
"Sister Cindy is in the hospital, and you’re still flaunting yourself, aren’t you? Are you only satisfied if you drive Sister Cindy to her death?! You damned woman, if Sister Cindy really dies, don’t expect to live either!"
The media certainly wouldn’t miss this opportunity to make a story, immediately snapping away at the woman and Evelyn.
James’ thin lips pressed tightly, and the reporters around him unconsciously backed away, afraid of being caught in his wrath.
"Quentin, take her to the police station and notify Lawyer Archer."
A wealthy businessman suing an ordinary person seemed somewhat unkind.
The eager media immediately turned to interview Evelyn.
"Ms. Clayton, are you happy to see James Grant defending you like this?"
"Ms. Clayton, will you publicly apologize to Cindy Owens?"
