Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 507: Just an Excuse
CHAPTER 507: CHAPTER 507: JUST AN EXCUSE
Evelyn Clayton remained composed, taking a sip of champagne.
"Why say that? Why is he unwilling to talk to you about these things?"
Jasper Grant gave a helpless smile, "It’s quite obvious. My big brother has formed an opinion about me, probably because I haven’t done well enough... After all, my mother hurt him."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, saying nothing.
"Anyway, I hope you can tell me about my brother’s current situation. Just as well, there are many things in the company that I’d really like to consult him about. Our father is getting old, and if I ask him, he might think I’m not capable enough."
As Jasper spoke, there was visible anxiety in his eyes, as if he genuinely cared about what his brother and father thought of him.
But Evelyn detected another layer of meaning.
Her brow slightly furrowed, "Company matters?"
Saying that, Evelyn took another sip of champagne, hiding her thoughts, "Is there something troubling you? If you really have an issue, but James isn’t willing to talk to you at the moment, I can pass a message for you."
Jasper looked pleasantly surprised, "Really, Evelyn?"
Evelyn gave a slight smile, "Of course, if you don’t mind me knowing."
"How could I!" Jasper appeared quite happy, "Then I’ll have to trouble you, Evelyn!"
"It’s nothing." After a pause, Evelyn casually added, "Actually, James might also come today. You could have a chat with him."
Upon hearing this, Jasper showed some hesitation, finally giving a bitter smile: "Maybe not. It seems my brother doesn’t really want to see me right now."
Evelyn raised an eyebrow, "I see."
"Yes, so I’ll have to trouble you with this matter. Once I organize the documents, I’ll send them to you, and you can ask my brother." Jasper was all sincerity.
After their conversation ended and Jasper left, Evelyn continued watching his back, with an almost smiling expression.
Interesting.
Jasper was clearly trying to find an excuse to let her know something.
Yet he chose such a seemingly upright excuse.
Truly interesting.
The evening grew late and the banquet officially began.
Evelyn never caught a glimpse of James, so she stopped looking for him and instead turned her gaze to Harrison Grant, who slowly walked out from the Grant Family’s mansion.
It had been a while, but Harrison looked just the same, energetic, his aged face still appearing quite amiable when he smiled.
But only Evelyn knew the false benevolence beneath that mask.
Harrison took the stage to speak, and as his gaze swept the audience, he saw Evelyn.
Evelyn maintained a faint smile on her lips and raised a toast in Harrison’s direction.
She saw the smile vanish momentarily from Harrison’s eyes, and an indescribable pleasure swelled within her.
Perhaps for a day or two, she still had no means to deal with Harrison.
But one day, she would surely cause that layer of falsehood to shed from him.
Evelyn’s eyes narrowed slightly as she scanned the crowd around her.
Suddenly, as if realizing something, a strange feeling arose.
Strangely, how come on Harrison’s birthday, Summer, Heather, and even Matthew were nowhere to be seen?
In principle, in such an occasion, these people would definitely be present.
After all, on a day where everything could be glossed over, there was no need to worry about anything happening.
Just as she thought this, the sound of a car engine stopping came from outside the garden—
Everyone turned to look toward the garden gate.
The next moment, a tall figure slowly walked into the Grant family mansion.
