Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 518: I Believe You
CHAPTER 518: CHAPTER 518: I BELIEVE YOU
James Grant’s eyelashes fluttered slightly, but he didn’t answer the question.
Evelyn Clayton didn’t press further, she wiped her tears with a tissue and got out of the car.
After last night’s events, as they faced each other now, there seemed to be an indescribable emotion between them, but Evelyn had no other thoughts at this moment.
She gazed at James Grant, her heart a mix of emotions.
James Grant, the son of Harrison Grant.
Even though he had clearly stated his stance and attitude last night, the closer Evelyn got to the truth of what happened back then, the more uncertain she was about how to face him.
"What a coincidence, running into you here." Evelyn glanced at the car parked not far away, James Grant’s car, "Are you here to visit a patient at the sanatorium too?"
James Grant’s lips parted slightly, his voice a bit hoarse, "My father was transferred here today."
Evelyn thought for a moment and remembered.
Last night, Harrison Grant was so angry that he was hospitalized on the spot, and today he was transferred here. Most likely he’s already awake—a move made to announce it to the world under the guise of a convalescence.
The Grant Family’s rebellious and unfilial eldest son had angered his father into the hospital.
"Why didn’t you go in to see him?" Evelyn’s expression was calm, "Just watching from outside?"
James Grant pulled a mocking smile at the corner of his mouth, "He’s fine, it’s just a way to shift public opinion towards me."
Evelyn didn’t comment, "He is, after all, your father."
This statement was ambiguous, making James Grant look at Evelyn.
He suddenly realized that he no longer understood Evelyn Clayton.
Her every expression, every word, every glance, even every smile seemed veiled, like a layer of invisible gauze, making her unreadable to him.
James Grant’s Adam’s apple moved slightly, "Why are you here?"
"To visit an old friend of my father." Evelyn’s words were half-true, "Seeing the elderly friend confused and not fully conscious was hard on my heart."
Upon hearing this, doubt flickered in James Grant’s mind.
Evelyn’s father’s old friend... who could it be?
She had never mentioned this before.
Seeing James Grant’s expression, Evelyn smiled, "What, surprised? My father really does have an old friend here, but I’ve never told anyone about it; you’re the first to know."
James Grant’s brow furrowed slightly.
A tumult of emotions surged within him, with so much he wanted to say to Evelyn.
However, Evelyn gave him no chance to speak.
"Last night you publicly announced the cancellation of your engagement with Lynn Yates, it seems the Yates Family will cut business ties with you going forward." Evelyn slightly raised her eyebrows, "Don’t you find it a pity?"
"No." James Grant looked at Evelyn almost stubbornly, "Evelyn, you know why I’m doing this."
The moment had finally arrived.
Evelyn quietly watched James Grant, seemingly waiting for him to continue.
James Grant took a deep breath, "Now, I can tell you, I absolutely will not marry Lynn Yates, you—"
Will you be with me?
Looking at the man before her, Evelyn could only feel the whims of fate.
She truly understood, at this moment, what it meant to be pushed forward by destiny, to move ahead.
"Do you like me?" Evelyn asked directly, gazing at James Grant, "I mean, the kind of like where you want to be with me?"
Meeting her gaze, the unexpected joy left James Grant stunned for a long time before he eagerly nodded.
He couldn’t help but reach out to gently touch the side of Evelyn’s face.
Evelyn didn’t dodge as she used to, she just looked steadily at him.
"Evelyn, be with me, I will marry you." James Grant said each word deliberately, words he’d thought over many times, "I like you."
Evelyn’s heart seemed to tear open.
A gale of emotions swept through her heart, leaving her feeling cold all over.
But Evelyn nodded, appearing solemn as she agreed with him.
"Okay, I trust you. I’ll be with you, James Grant."
