CHAPTER 522: CHAPTER 522: SOMETHING HAPPENED

It was past two in the morning, and Iris Lockwood couldn’t hold on any longer, so she borrowed the guest room at Evelyn Clayton’s home and stayed over.

After Iris had gone into her room for a while, Yara Reagan came out of the bathroom, wiping her damp hair, and saw Evelyn standing in front of the floor-to-ceiling window, looking at the deep night sky outside.

She had her arms crossed, and the cigarette in her fingers was halfway burned, with the air faintly smelling of mint tobacco.

Yara pressed her lips together slightly, took a cigarette, and walked to stand beside Evelyn, lighting it and standing shoulder to shoulder with her, looking out at the night view.

"Tell me the truth." Yara suddenly spoke, her voice much deeper, "Why did you really reconcile with James Grant? Is it related to that call from Officer Owens?"

Evelyn replied without hesitation, laughing softly, "Are you overthinking it? Do you mean to say I’m looking to use James Grant? What’s there for me to use?"

Yara’s expression was complicated, "He’s Harrison Grant’s son, isn’t that enough?"

"Harrison Grant has already been driven to the hospital out of anger." Evelyn sipped her cigarette lightly and exhaled a smoke ring, "Even if he recovers and gets out in the future, he won’t reconcile with his eldest son anytime soon. A son angering his father into the hospital is a grave disrespect. Even without the gossip outside, Harrison can’t swallow his pride."

Yara took a deep breath, "Even so, James Grant carries Harrison’s blood in him. He can’t wander outside forever; he will eventually return to the Grant family... And by then, do you plan to marry into the Grant family?"

Evelyn stayed silent, and Yara’s tone grew anxious, "Evelyn, what exactly are you planning? Could you tell me? Maybe I could even help you."

"Don’t overthink it." Evelyn snuffed out the cigarette, her smile unchanged, "I already said it’s just a try, and who knows what the future holds, right?"

Yara looked at her, a sense of helplessness and inexplicable panic welling up inside her.

For reasons unknown, Yara always felt that Evelyn seemed to be heading further down a path of no return.

In the bedroom, Yara lay next to Evelyn, watching the moonlight streaming through the window, her thoughts racing.

After a long while, Yara softly said, "Evelyn, no matter what happens, please take care of yourself, will you?"

It was a long time before Yara heard a gentle response from the person beside her, just as she was beginning to think Evelyn had fallen asleep.

Yara took a deep breath and closed her eyes.

The next day, Iris left very early, and Evelyn and Yara each went their separate ways, one to the company and the other to the factory.

"Vanreid’s business license should be issued in the next couple of days. The previous Vanreid employees can return. You’ll need to watch over the two factories more closely. After the new clothing launch, I might have to go on a business trip."

On the way to dropping Yara off at the factory, Evelyn drove while explaining with an indifferent expression.

"A business trip?" Yara’s mind immediately tensed up, "Are you going alone? Where to?"

Evelyn remained calm, "It’s hard to say. It depends on the outcome of the launch. If it’s good, I might have to go to Keston to procure some new fabrics. I don’t trust anyone else to do it, so I’d rather go myself."

Hearing this, Yara felt much relieved, "Then see if Rhys Jacobs is available at that time, let him accompany you."

Evelyn made no comment, and after dropping Yara off at the factory, she drove away.

Arriving at the company, she held a regular meeting and confirmed the final details of the launch, inadvertently delaying until noon.

Back in her office, Evelyn was about to take a rest when Phillip Owens called.

"Miss Clayton, there’s been an issue with Lars Alden’s family."
