Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 557: Compensation Is More Appropriate
CHAPTER 557: CHAPTER 557: COMPENSATION IS MORE APPROPRIATE
Felicia Preston was taken aback by Evelyn Clayton’s piercing gaze, swallowing hard.
After a moment, Rhys Jacobs subtly stepped forward to support Felicia Preston, gently coaxing, "Ms. Preston, please get up first. We can actually talk things over properly. If this really gets to the police station, you’ll be the only one who ends up punished."
Felicia Preston was left with no other option, hesitating as she let Rhys Jacobs help her up, then stood still, glaring at Evelyn Clayton.
After a long while, Felicia Preston finally shouted, "We can talk properly, just as long as you give us the compensation! We’ll leave immediately!"
As she spoke, the surrounding onlookers immediately revealed expressions of understanding.
Ah, it’s about money. That pretty much clarifies what this issue is about.
Evelyn Clayton suppressed a slight smile in her eyes, looked at everyone, and smiled, "Everyone, today is a work day. You’ve seen enough excitement, haven’t you? It’s time to go."
All around her, the people didn’t expect Evelyn Clayton to say that to them. For a moment, they felt a bit embarrassed and awkwardly dispersed.
The police arrived quickly.
Upon their arrival, Felicia Preston’s expression was visibly fearful and much more subdued.
Evelyn Clayton glanced sideways at Felicia Preston, sensing her nervousness and unrest, she didn’t say much, only told the police that the issue had already been resolved.
The police were easygoing, though still slightly suspicious. After glancing at Felicia Preston a few times, they instructed them not to call the police casually and then left.
After all the commotion, Felicia Preston was much more obedient.
However, she still looked as if she wouldn’t leave without receiving money.
"I said, my daughter was forced to death by you!" Felicia Preston stood next to David Lawrence, pinching his arm as she spoke, "Speak up!"
David Lawrence’s wooden expression finally showed a bit of change, nodding in agreement but saying nothing.
Felicia Preston glared fiercely at her husband.
Evelyn Clayton raised an eyebrow slightly and had Rhys Jacobs open the company door.
"Since we’re going to talk money, why don’t we discuss it in the meeting room?" Evely Clayton suggested smoothly, giving Rhys Jacobs a meaningful look.
Rhys Jacobs understood immediately.
He opened the company door, walked to the front desk, and silently activated the camera and recording functions in the meeting room.
Seeing that Evelyn Clayton implied that compensation would be forthcoming, Felicia Preston couldn’t help but beam with joy, a hint of greed in her eyes.
Evelyn Clayton noticed the expression in her eyes and inwardly sneered.
After inviting the two into the meeting room, Evelyn Clayton poured water for them.
She pushed the water glass in front of them and smiled, "We’ve talked about a lot just now. You must be thirsty, Ms. Preston. Have a sip of water, and we can discuss things slowly."
Felicia Preston, however, seemed impatient, her gaze quite arrogant, "There’s no need for all this! Just give me the money, and we’ll leave after taking it!"
Evelyn Clayton chuckled lightly, "You think Julia Lawrence was driven to suicide by us, so you want us to compensate you, is that it?"
"Exactly!" Felicia Preston’s eyebrows shot up, "What, are you trying to back out or what? Let me tell you! No matter what, wasn’t it true that Julia Lawrence jumped off your building’s roof? So you must compensate us! Otherwise, if this gets out of hand, see how tricky this matter becomes for you!"
Evelyn Clayton mimicked her raised eyebrow, "But don’t you know, this building isn’t ours. I’ve only rented an office floor to run my company. If you’re really looking for someone to compensate, wouldn’t it be more appropriate to approach the developer of the building?"
