Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 582: Imprisoned
CHAPTER 582: CHAPTER 582: IMPRISONED
"Lars Alden."
Evelyn Clayton seemed very calm, at least in her expression, as she even curled her lips into a faint smile.
"The last time we met, I didn’t know your name."
The last meeting naturally referred to the time John Jacobs and his accomplices kidnapped Evelyn Clayton.
Lars Alden lowered his head further, his voice muffled, "I’m, I’m sorry."
He stuttered a bit, and his voice grew softer as he spoke, making it clear that he felt guilty towards Evelyn Clayton, was afraid to see her, and didn’t know what to say to her.
Evelyn Clayton’s brows furrowed slightly but didn’t hesitate, "Lars Alden, I’m not here today to accuse you, nor to hear your apologies. I just want to tell you I’ve seen Lily Warren."
She didn’t mention that Lily Warren had been transferred to a hospital in Riversend.
After all, Phillip Owens used his privileges to help her with this. Evelyn wasn’t sure how many people knew about it, and she was uncertain of any impacts on Phillip if word spread.
She paused for a moment and continued, "I’ve arranged for someone to treat her well, and I’ll cover all her medical expenses."
Lars Alden slowly raised his eyes, his lips quivering, red-eyed as he stared at Evelyn Clayton.
After a long while, he choked up, "Thank you, thank you—you, I truly feel so guilty... but, but I kidnapped you, why would you still, still..."
"Why would I help your wife?" Evelyn Clayton laughed bitterly, "Because there’s something I want to ask you. I think to get you to tell the truth, I need to offer you some benefit."
This seemed to make Lars Alden more receptive, and he nodded quickly, "Ask away, as long as it’s something I know—"
Evelyn Clayton gazed at him, without hesitation, she asked directly, "Is Morgan Alden your father?"
Seemingly surprised, Lars Alden hesitated for a moment, then nodded, "Yes, yes. Wha-what’s the matter?"
The hand Evelyn Clayton had placed on her knee tightened slightly as she spoke word by word, "He had an alias, called Leon Lewis, do you know this?"
Lars Alden seemed quite bewildered, his expression showing confusion.
Seeing his expression appeared genuine, Evelyn Clayton rephrased her question, "Where is your father now, do you know?"
"My, my father..." Lars Alden showed a few hints of timidity in his expression, and after a while, he spoke hesitantly, "My father, he’s already passed away, hasn’t he?"
This was the response Evelyn Clayton had anticipated.
She took a deep breath and solemnly recounted to Lars Alden how she came to know Morgan Alden was his father.
Lars Alden’s expression shifted from bewilderment to shock in less than a minute.
"How, how is this possible?" Lars Alden suddenly laughed, "I clearly saw my father die in a car accident, I even saw his body..."
Evelyn Clayton’s expression turned slightly cold, her eyebrows raised, "You saw his body? What kind of body?"
"I saw..."
Lars Alden’s words came to an abrupt halt.
Evelyn Clayton watched him quietly, not urging him.
A long time passed before Lars Alden spoke again, haltingly, "What I saw was his burned body..."
"So, you didn’t actually see his body." Evelyn Clayton coldly chuckled, her lips curling, "Lars Alden, we’ve all been deceived."
"Back then, your father used the alias Leon Lewis to work by my father’s side, later there was a time when your father drove with my father, and both were assumed dead in a car accident." Evelyn Clayton’s lips arched in mockery, "My father’s heart was taken, and your father was imprisoned in Pinehill Prison."
