Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 596: Avenging My Father
CHAPTER 596: CHAPTER 596: AVENGING MY FATHER
Evelyn Clayton’s hand on the bedding slightly tightened.
She had to admit that Shane Sinclair’s words had momentarily moved her.
But...
Evelyn took a deep breath and asked in return, "Mr. Sinclair, I’m aware of my own identity. Even if Gem’s market value were to increase tenfold, it could never catch up to Apex. You could easily crush me with just a flick of your hand. But in light of you saving me once, I’m reluctant to assume the worst of you."
"If I don’t agree to your proposal, what would you do to me?"
Shane’s eyes flickered slightly, looking at Evelyn with an intriguing curiosity. "What do you think?"
Evelyn’s expression was cold. "If you plan to threaten me with the company’s bankruptcy, the ruin of my family, or friends in distress, there’s nothing I can do."
"You’re overthinking it." Shane chuckled lightly, "If you don’t agree, when you go back, you’ll naturally have a pile of trouble to handle. I think all I need to do is watch. You’ll inevitably be overwhelmed by other trivial matters."
Shane was right. If she went back now, she might be facing not only James Grant’s angry humiliation but also the predatory gazes of Summer Monroe, Arthur Chandler, and others—not to mention the person who attempted to kill her—
Would they act again? Force her to the brink once more?
Seeing Evelyn’s slightly dazed expression, Yara Reagan had a bad premonition.
"Evelyn..." Yara gently held Evelyn’s hand, a bit uneasy, "You’re not really going to agree—what about Gem? What about me, and Rhys Jacobs... So many people in the company are waiting for you, and Violet Ford and the others are very worried about you."
Upon hearing Yara’s words, Shane responded calmly, "Our Sinclair Family only wants your friend to become an adopted daughter, not to imprison her."
Yara glanced at Shane and retorted resentfully, "How is this different from imprisonment? And to be someone else’s substitute... with so much money, what if you sell Evelyn later?"
This time, Shane really couldn’t help but chuckle and asked in return, "Why do you think that way?"
"People can be dangerous, can’t be too careful," Yara hummed lightly.
Shane shook his head with amusement, "Ladies, I don’t gain any benefit from you. To be honest, the Sinclair Family has reached this point today and doesn’t need any external help to maintain our current position. Everything I’ve done is merely to make my mother’s later years happier."
After pausing, he added, "My father feels the same way. He loves my mother very much and doesn’t want to see her torment herself any longer."
Upon hearing this, Evelyn’s heart was filled with mixed emotions.
In her heart, she actually already had an answer.
There was no reason for her not to make use of the Sinclair Family’s help.
As long as she could avenge her father, even if she spent the rest of her life showing filial piety to Pauline Warren, it would be worth it.
After all, she could already foresee the rest of her life.
Evelyn clenched her hand tightly and then slowly released it after a moment.
"I agree with you," she said, word by word, "but I have some conditions."
A faint smile appeared in Shane’s eyes as he finally stood up, elegantly saying, "Please, go ahead."
"After I recover, I need to return to Riversend. I need the Sinclair Family’s assistance to ensure no one finds out I’ve returned... After that, I need to meet with The Merchants’ Guild President, Arthur Chandler."
Shane’s lips curved slightly.
"Deal."
