CHAPTER 654: CHAPTER 654: MAYBE EVEN BETTER

Evelyn Clayton returned to the bedroom and fell asleep immediately.

When she woke up again, it was already dark outside. As if sensing it, Aunt Liu came to knock on the door.

"You’re awake?" Aunt Liu’s voice was filled with concern, "Are you feeling unwell?"

Evelyn took a moment to fully wake up and then shook her head, "I’m fine."

"Mr. Grant just called to say he’d come back to have dinner with you. You can come downstairs now." Aunt Liu said quietly, as she moved forward to help her up.

Evelyn’s mind was still a bit sluggish. It wasn’t until Aunt Liu leaned over to turn on the bedside lamp that she subconsciously asked, "What time is it?"

"It’s almost eight o’clock."

Aunt Liu practically guided Evelyn out of the bedroom, not allowing her any chance to refuse.

Evelyn felt something was off. Just as she was about to ask, Aunt Liu whispered, "Have you contacted Miss Ruan?"

Her steps paused slightly on the stairs, and Evelyn, trying to remain expressionless, softly said, "Not yet."

"You should do it soon."

After saying this, Aunt Liu didn’t speak again and helped Evelyn downstairs.

The dining room was filled with the aroma of food. Evelyn sniffed and didn’t find it repulsive.

Since she became pregnant, except for a few times when she was slightly stressed and the incident with the turtle soup, she hadn’t been bothered by food.

It seems the little one inside her is quite well-behaved...

Suppressing the urge to touch her belly, Evelyn sat idly at the dining table, waiting for James Grant to return.

About twenty minutes later, a car engine shutting off could be heard from outside the window.

Evelyn was flipping through her phone, too lazy to look up, only hearing someone enter the living room and then the dining room.

Finally, accompanied by a slight chill, he sat down next to her.

"What are you looking at?"

James Grant’s low, indifferent voice sounded as he took the phone from Evelyn’s hand.

Evelyn didn’t react much, watching Aunt Liu put the dishes on the table before giving James a glance.

James was still in a suit, having only taken off his coat, and was now reaching out to serve her some soup.

"Aren’t you tired?" Evelyn instinctively asked, "Can’t you take off your clothes before eating?"

The coldness from James’s body got closer to her, making Evelyn feel uncomfortable and instinctively want to move away.

"I’m just here to have dinner with you. After that, I have to go back; there’s still work to finish." James’s voice was relatively gentle as he placed a bowl of corn rib soup in front of Evelyn, "You don’t like turtle soup, is this okay?"

Evelyn said nothing, merely picked up the soup bowl and took a sip.

The warm, rich flavor of the soup meat, combined with the sweet aroma of corn, inexplicably calmed Evelyn’s heart.

She didn’t ask James why he still had to work, just sat quietly beside him, eating a meal in silence.

Although Evelyn’s slightly cold attitude made James feel a bit uncomfortable, compared to a few days ago, the atmosphere and interaction between them today had made a qualitative leap.

James was quite satisfied.

He occasionally observed and paid attention to Evelyn’s eating habits.

James couldn’t tell if it was just his imagination, but he felt like Evelyn was eating more than before.

Seeing Evelyn’s good appetite, the last bit of gloom in James’s heart dissipated.

A somewhat absurd, indescribable sense of hope welled up within him.

Everything is slowly getting better, isn’t it?

James thought to himself.

If they could find that person, maybe it would be even better...
