Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 67: I Want to Borrow Fifty Million from You
CHAPTER 67: CHAPTER 67: I WANT TO BORROW FIFTY MILLION FROM YOU
This time, Philip Lockwood and Charlotte Sterling could no longer laugh.
"The opportunity you’re talking about is giving them fifty million? My silly daughter, the Grant Group is a listed company and still needs us to sponsor fifty million? You must have been tricked by Matthew Sullivan!"
Philip Lockwood was having a terrible headache.
Losing the Grant Family as a major support is one thing, but now having to invest fifty million as well? This is clearly a losing business deal, how can we do it?
But Iris Lockwood crossed her arms, unhappily admonishing Philip Lockwood.
"Dad, do you know what it means to bait a big fish with a long line?"
"But this bait is too big, fifty million, not just fifty bucks!"
"The fish you’re trying to catch is also a big one, the Grant Family! As long as I can marry Matthew Sullivan, what’s a mere fifty million? How many more years can Harrison Grant continue in his position? As long as we support Matthew Sullivan and let him return to the Grant Family, would he only be worth fifty million?"
This argument made sense to Philip Lockwood, but the number still troubled him.
"Honey, is there any other option we can choose?"
Just giving away fifty million makes Philip Lockwood’s heart ache.
"Moreover, the company’s current profit situation isn’t great, the fifty million cash flow is enough, but not the actual money."
"Then you should find a way!" Iris Lockwood frowned.
The two stared at each other, but suddenly both looked at Charlotte Sterling.
Charlotte Sterling was startled: "What’s wrong?"
"Charlotte, you’re Iris’s mother, you should want Iris to have a good life, right?"
"Of course!"
Charlotte Sterling puffed out her chest, afraid a moment’s hesitation would make Iris Lockwood doubt her sincerity.
"Since that’s the case, shouldn’t you also think of a way with us?"
Charlotte Sterling swallowed, "I really don’t have any ideas..."
She was a housewife, although she didn’t have to work, Philip Lockwood was inherently stingy, and every penny at home had to be accounted for by her. She wanted to buy a diamond necklace but had to scrape together money from here and there.
Clearly, her little stash wasn’t on Philip Lockwood’s mind.
Philip Lockwood held her hand with a tender tone, "Evelyn Clayton probably has quite a bit of money, right? She runs her own studio, fully responsible for its profits and losses, unlike us who have employees to pay. Her cash flow must be ample, can’t she lend us some?"
Charlotte Sterling’s face showed her difficulty.
"You know Evelyn doesn’t listen to me."
"Mom, this is when you, as a mother, need to step in." Iris Lockwood’s plea to Charlotte Sterling sounded especially sweet, as intimate as a real mother and daughter.
"No matter how formidable Evelyn Clayton is, you did give birth to her, didn’t you? If you ask her, would she dare not give? If she doesn’t, it’s unfilial. Besides, you should have something on her, right?"
The father-daughter pair pressed Charlotte Sterling, leaving her no way out.
After a while, Charlotte Sterling nodded stiffly.
"I’ll try to think of something."
"Why don’t you call her now and ask? She went back home early today, she must be free."
Under the watchful gaze of her husband and daughter, Charlotte Sterling called Evelyn Clayton.
The line connected, and Evelyn Clayton’s cold voice came through—
"What’s up?"
Charlotte Sterling’s heart tightened.
If she couldn’t handle this, she’d truly have no standing with Philip Lockwood and Iris Lockwood.
"Evelyn, what are you doing now?"
Evelyn Clayton immediately sensed something was off.
When had Charlotte Sterling ever been so hesitant in front of her?
Only when she needed something.
"If you have something to say, say it quickly."
"I want... to borrow fifty million from you."
