Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 693: When Did You Come Back
CHAPTER 693: CHAPTER 693: WHEN DID YOU COME BACK
Evelyn Clayton smiled at Yara Reagan through the rearview mirror.
Yara Reagan touched her nose, "I think it’s inherently difficult for women to find jobs in society. And I’m already a CEO, shouldn’t I be able to make my own decisions?"
"Of course, you’re doing great." Evelyn Clayton’s voice was gentle, "If I were there, I might not have done as well as you have."
"Who says so, I feel you would be even better. If you could come back, I’m sure Gem would reach new heights."
Evelyn Clayton chuckled, "Barring anything unexpected, I probably won’t be able to return for the next five to ten years."
The tasks she has to complete and the goals she has to achieve have drawn a very long battle line.
They require a tremendous amount of time, energy, and resources.
Yara Reagan and Iris Lockwood naturally understood what Evelyn Clayton meant, feeling somewhat heavy-hearted for a moment.
The atmosphere inside the car became a bit tense for a moment, and Evelyn Clayton didn’t want to spoil their mood, so she smiled and said, "I’ll drop you two at the mall and then head to the company, okay? Today’s technically my first day back, can’t be too late."
"Okay, then remember to come find us after you’re done!" Iris Lockwood seemed a bit reluctant.
Evelyn Clayton laughed, "Alright, got it. Remember not to buy too much before I get there, and if you get tired of shopping, go have a spa nearby or something. If you want to go back, just call the driver."
Amid their casual chat, Evelyn Clayton dropped the two of them at the mall and then turned towards Harvey Warren.
The location of Apex was not far from the mall, both in the CBD, and Evelyn Clayton arrived at the foot of The Apex Tower in less than ten minutes.
When the doorman opened the car door, he immediately recognized Evelyn Clayton.
"Director Sinclair is back?" The doorman was enthusiastic, "Sister May from the design department was just asking me today if you were returning."
Evelyn Clayton nodded with a smile, "I’ll give her a surprise when I go up."
Upon entering the building, the front desk also greeted Evelyn Clayton, surprised and delighted.
"Sister May was saying yesterday that if you don’t come back soon, she’d quit." The front desk girl smiled, "She complains about it all the time."
Evelyn Clayton feigned surprise, "Really? Then I should ask her about it later. If she really doesn’t want to work, maybe she should just retire."
The front desk laughed heartily, but then seemed to remember something, and her expression became a bit hesitant.
"Oh right, Director Sinclair, just a heads-up now that you’re back, be cautious, especially with that Director Wei..."
Evelyn Clayton raised an eyebrow slightly.
Director Wei, Winnie Wyatt? Isn’t she the vice director under her?
Evelyn Clayton was puzzled, "What’s up with her?"
The front desk looked around, ensured no one was paying attention, and then lowered her voice, "Director Wei recently submitted an application to run for the design department director position, but it was rejected by the big boss. She seems quite upset and has been saying a lot of bad things about you..."
The front desk generally knows a lot of company gossip, though their accuracy is questionable, and Evelyn Clayton naturally wouldn’t fully believe it from one side.
But Winnie Wyatt has always been like this while working under her, always liking to oppose her. If it weren’t for her outstanding work ability, Evelyn Clayton wouldn’t have kept her.
"Alright, I noted that, thank you for the heads-up."
Evelyn Clayton smiled and bid farewell to the front desk, then took the elevator.
She didn’t go to the design department on the eighteenth floor but went first to the executive office on the twenty-second floor.
As soon as she stepped out of the elevator, the two secretaries at the executive office entrance were very surprised to see her.
"Director Sinclair!" Shane Sinclair’s chief secretary hastened over, overjoyed, "When did you get back? How come you kept it so quiet?"
