Flirted Wrong, Married Right
Chapter 698: Just Asking for Trouble
CHAPTER 698: CHAPTER 698: JUST ASKING FOR TROUBLE
Evelyn Clayton paused for a moment.
She looked up, somewhat thoughtful: "The person hasn’t left yet?"
"Yeah, they said they’ll wait as long as you have time." A glint of gossip sparkled in May’s eyes, "Sister Evelyn, it’s a handsome guy, do you know him? Who is he?"
Evelyn Clayton hid her thoughts, smiling, "I haven’t even seen what he looks like, how would I know who it is?"
"Oh... should you meet him then?"
Evelyn Clayton lowered her eyes slightly, feeling a bit conflicted, and after a long while she said, "Alright, I’ll meet him. I’ll be done with work shortly, have him come up at eleven-thirty."
"Okay."
After May left, Evelyn Clayton raised her head again, looking somewhat bewildered outside the window, her mind in a bit of chaos.
Time seemed to stretch out excessively.
After organizing her documents, Evelyn Clayton subconsciously glanced at the clock on the table.
It was just eleven.
She was contemplating whether to go out and ask May to call the person in early when she heard a commotion outside.
Evelyn Clayton frowned slightly and got up to head to the door.
"...Winnie Wyatt, are you out of your mind? Are you bored with nothing else to do?"
"What’s wrong with me..."
Outside were the voices of May and Winnie Wyatt.
Evelyn Clayton’s frown deepened, and she hurried out before May could say anything harsher.
Close to her office at the pantry door, May stood with hands on her hips, pointing at Winnie Wyatt’s nose and yelling, several people unable to hold her back.
"You’re just being despicable, right? That’s Director Clayton’s guest, and you say he should be escorted out by security? Are you brainless?"
Winnie Wyatt’s face turned white with anger, laughing in disbelief, "Who are you calling despicable? Can’t you understand human speech? The big boss asked security to escort the person out! What’s it got to do with me?"
"If it weren’t for you, how would the big boss know?"
Seeing May about to take action, Evelyn Clayton rushed forward to stop her.
"What are you doing?"
Evelyn Clayton’s expression was solemn; the employees present mostly still feared her authority and didn’t dare to make a sound.
Winnie Wyatt also turned her head and said nothing, her face pale.
Evelyn Clayton looked at May, her tone stern, "May, were you planning to hit her just now? This is a company, are you asking to be fired?"
"No, Director!" May was fuming, "Winnie Wyatt just reported something to the big boss, and he asked security to have Mr. Grant escorted out!"
Evelyn Clayton had pieced together most of what had happened from listening.
She looked at Winnie Wyatt, her voice slightly cold, "Vice Director Wyatt, was it you?"
Winnie Wyatt’s expression was conflicted for a moment, then she turned her eyes to Evelyn Clayton, raising her eyebrows, "Yes, it was me! That person has no business dealings with Apex and wouldn’t say their name. I really don’t see why Director Sinclair needs to meet with him. I’ve already informed the big boss, who says you should see him when you have free time."
Seeing a hint of smugness in Winnie Wyatt’s eyes, Evelyn Clayton understood everything.
Winnie Wyatt likely thought there was something between her and James Grant, while she always assumed there had been something between Evelyn and Shane Sinclair. So she rushed to report it.
For the first time, Evelyn felt some genuine dislike towards Winnie Wyatt.
"May, go down and check; if the person is still there, stop them. Tell them I said it—anyone who sends that person away today will have to deal with me." Evelyn Clayton stared intently at Winnie Wyatt, her voice icy, "I’m going to the twenty-second floor, have Mr. Grant wait for me in my office."
