Chen Ying also noticed traces of mud caked on the panda cubs, “It seems they might have escaped from the other side during the earthquake.”

Before coming here, I looked at the old photo archives. The collapsed area used to be a dense bamboo forest, loved by the giant pandas as their favorite dining spot.

This tree hollow must have been the wild birthing room where the mother panda gave birth. After escaping back, they’d choose the safest place to hide first.

The mother panda had to leave the cave today; without going out to find food, she’d starve and wouldn’t have milk to nourish the cubs.

Just as Chen Ying was examining the panda cub, the panda that had been fighting with the street rat ran back, howling and pounced towards the mother panda.

This time, Chen Ying clearly heard what it was calling.

Mom! It seems the child from the mother panda’s previous litter is this one.

Young pandas instinctively hang around their mother’s territory for the first few years, especially female pandas, who stay for quite a long time to continue learning independent living skills.

Chen Ying gave the cub an injection, wrapped it in his own clothes, and placed it on the forest ground.

While he was examining the cub, his teammates had already assembled the stretcher.

The panda cub was unconscious, so there was no need to anesthetize it temporarily. After securing it on the stretcher with restraints, several team members carried it away without a word.

Dealing with the furious mother panda is a bit tricky, but dealing with a giant panda that has just reached adulthood, Crazy Gun Gun declared: Piece of cake!

There’s no other way; this giant panda was facing four top predators, fully representing a formidable lineup.

“Calm down, I’m a veterinarian, here to help your little brother.”

Chen Ying extended his hand to the giant panda, simultaneously suppressed by the street rat and Crazy Gun Gun.

Forced to calm down from her excitement, she sniffed Chen Ying’s scent and finally withdrew her aggressive stance.

“Your brother is injured and can’t be rescued in the wild. I’ll take him for treatment, and he’ll be back soon.”

Seeing this giant panda could be communicated with, Chen Ying breathed a sigh of relief.

“Is that your mother over there? She’s also not in a good state. I’d like to take her; can you help persuade her?”

“The two-legged beasts have food and can arrange blind dates for you. There’s also a safe and comfortable place to stay. Want to go?”

The subdued giant panda glared at it, “Baa baa, you’re lying. How could there be such a good place?”

“You can just take a look to see if it’s true or not. Are you going or not?” Crazy Gun Gun exerted its paw, causing the young giant panda to grimace in pain.

While they were conversing, Chen Ying went over to check on the mother panda. Apart from a slight abrasion on the right forearm, the width of about two fingers and less than five centimeters long, there were no obvious injuries.

“Alright, let them go.” Chen Ying patted the young panda’s head, “Your mom probably got scared by the noise of rocks falling and, combined with your brother’s injury and unconsciousness, that’s why she went wild. Later, talk to her nicely, and have her follow me to a safer place to live.”

The epicenter here, although seemingly fine now, had fractured rock layers after the earthquake—rocks hadn’t fallen yet, but no one knows when they might suddenly collapse.

The task they received was to lure the giant pandas and other protected animals out of the danger zone.

Crazy Gun Gun released the young giant panda, came before Chen Ying, “There’s another female here, but we’ve lost her scent in the mountains.”

Chen Ying silently looked at the opposite collapse area. No one knew whether the giant panda, whose scent trace was lost, was buried there.

Gun Gun sat down and gnawed at its claw tips, “Probably came looking for this kid.”

Oh right, it’s the panda breeding and mating season now. Although it’s nearing the end, if some giant pandas haven’t found suitable partners, it won’t stop them from continuing to search until the mating season ends.

Just then, a drone hovered above in front of Chen Ying.

“Dr. Chen, have you found those two giant pandas?”

“Found them. The injured panda cub has been carried away. This giant panda got agitated and is temporarily subdued.”

The drone circled, capturing the situation below with its camera.

“There should be another giant panda, but we lost track of it. Please search the vicinity, I need to figure out how to get this mother panda out.”

Both Protection Stations received Chen Ying’s call for assistance, and the Panda Center was always on standby there.

By the time Chen Ying and his team arrived, two groups were carrying two large transshipment cages heading over here. Better safe than sorry; in case of emergency, they could quickly get into action.

The mother panda wasn’t injured or ill, but her mental issues were significant and difficult to manage.

Fortunately, our Center has experienced staff, and as long as the problem is identified, it can definitely be resolved step by step.

After roughly an hour, the responders arrived, and after communicating with Chen Ying, they said the transshipment cages would arrive in at most half an hour, and the situation here could be left to them.
