Chapter 706: Chapter 563: Catching Fish, We Have It in the Bag (Part 3)
To avoid mosquito bites and cuts from some serrated plants, they were wearing fairly dense clothing, hats, face coverings, and high-top shoes, all wrapped up tightly. But this resulted in them almost getting heatstroke from the heat.
“Alright, let’s rest for a bit in the grove up ahead before we continue. Everyone should check each other for any bugs or plant seeds stuck to them. Be careful of the ground when you sit down, so you don’t get ambushed by any little critters.”
It was around four in the afternoon, and although the sun was no longer directly overhead, it was still the hottest part of the day. To prevent heatstroke, they had to pay attention to cooling down.
Fortunately, everyone had rich outdoor experience, and so far, no one showed signs of heat exhaustion.
Walking in the rainforest on a hot day is something most people can’t handle. During rest time, several students leaned against each other to take a short nap.
Dao Meihua was still full of energy. After recording some rare plants discovered along the way, she leaned against Chen Ying and fell asleep.
Chen Ying, on the other hand, was reviewing the footage on his camera, going over in his mind the animal species they had observed that day.
Around five-thirty, Yunyun returned.
It was impressive that it could find them so smoothly in such a vast rainforest, and it even brought some food along.
The handmade small backpack was stuffed with buns, filled with stuffing, ready to be eaten once heated. There weren’t many, just enough for half a piece per person.
There were also four bamboo tubes filled with rice wine. Additionally, there was a pack of hand-torn jerky, already mixed with garlic and chili. Just a squeeze of lemon juice, and it was ready to eat.
The food wasn’t much, but it was full of thought.
It’s definitely impossible to get full with this, but being able to enjoy something delicious in addition to dry rations was simply unbeatable.
Everyone finished sharing the food and packed the trash under their backpacks, full of energy to continue on their way.
They planned to first check the situation near a wetland closest to the village today. Although Fishing Cats are most commonly found in mangroves, they might also appear in other wetland areas.
More importantly, they felt it wasn’t good to disturb the villagers late at night. They planned to camp outdoors overnight and head to the village at dawn, fulfilling their agreement with the siblings while minimizing inconvenience to the villagers—a win-win situation!
When they reached their target campsite, Yunyun noticed they had stopped walking and curiously grabbed Chen Ying’s pant leg without making a sound. It looked up at him with its beautiful big eyes full of vitality, its little face full of questions.
“Yunyun, we have observation tasks tonight, so we won’t enter the village for now. Could you take this to Yan Han and his sister for us?”
The handwritten note outlined their plan and reassured the siblings not to worry—they would definitely arrive by tomorrow morning.
Yunyun tilted its little head, didn’t insist, and turned to run back to the village.
It was almost eight o’clock by now, and the sky was dim, so they had to hurry and set up camp.
The spot was nice, and if possible, they planned to stay there for two to three days.
Just as they set up the camp, Yan Han and his sister, along with Uncle Yan Wenyan and his wife, arrived, carrying plenty of food and drinks.
Uncle Yan Wenyan even suggested staying with them to spend the night outdoors.
His wife didn’t speak much Chinese and communicated with a mix of hand gestures, marking three spots on the map for them.
These marks were places where her grandfather used to go fishing when he was young, and they often saw water cats competing with him for fish. The local term “water cat,” or Fishing Cat, was exactly what they were looking for.
