Chapter 168: 168 Arriving Home
Chapter 168: Chapter 168 Arriving Home
One night, the Sister Su sisters only went to the bathroom once, which was really inconvenient.
In the latter half of the night, after entering the borders of Meng Province, they distinctly felt the temperature drop, and Lu Xiaoting immediately took out his coat from the bag.
The coat was large enough to barely cover the two sisters.
The sisters leaned against each other, and after putting on a layer of clothing, they fell into a drowsy sleep not long after.
Having stayed awake all night made everyone’s eyelids heavy, but finally, they were almost at the station.
The group got up to stretch their legs, feeling their shoes getting tighter and tighter.
It was because they hadn’t moved much all night, causing poor blood circulation, and their legs and feet were swollen.
As the train whistle blew, everyone, including Susu, smiled happily; they were finally home.
Upon disembarking, they immediately found the station staff and with an introduction letter, retrieved ten tightly packed large parcels.
Each sister carried one large parcel, Lu Xiaoting and Su Chenghe each carried three large parcels, and Zhang Guoming carried two large parcels.
Outside the train station, Father Lu stood at the bustling entrance, feeling uneasy.
“Could I have gotten the date wrong? No, it can’t be; isn’t today their return date?”
As soon as he finished speaking, voices could be heard at the exit, followed by the sight of several large moving parcels.
Su Fu tentatively called out, “Is that you, Son?”
“Dad? What are you doing here?”
Father Lu immediately smiled, “I was worried you all couldn’t carry everything, so I came with the tricycle and brought the bicycle too.”
The men quickly shuffled around, placing four large parcels on the big bike and six in the little tricycle.
…
When they arrived home, it was already slightly bright, and the living room was warmly bustling.
“Mom.”
“Aunt.”
“We’re back, wash your face, the noodles will be ready soon, have some to fill up before going to sleep.”
Now that Mrs. Lu mentioned it, the three’s stomachs grumbled.
“Thanks, Mom.”
“Thanks, Aunt.”
Each of the three slurped down a bowl of hot noodles, instantly feeling revitalized, their eyelids began to fight to stay open.
“Alright, hurry and go to sleep after eating; I’ve made the beds already.”
The three were indeed tired and sleepy and didn’t bother with formalities, heading straight back to their room to lie down.
“Look at them, they’ve had it rough on the road, eating and sleeping poorly,” Mrs. Lu said tenderly.
Father Lu sighed, and the old couple covered the tricycle and bicycle with a cloth before they felt reassured.
“Aunt?”
The triplets opened their eyes to see their aunt and immediately ran to the West room in their little pants, finding out their parents were back too.
Worried that the grandchildren might wake the young couple, Mrs. Lu whispered a caution to the triplets.
“Be good, Pingping, An’an, and Lele. Mom and Dad are very tired; let’s be quiet and not wake them up, alright?”
The triplets quickly covered their mouths, nodding vigorously.
“Mmm, we won’t make noise.”
…
Susu vaguely felt a heavy weight on her body and opened her eyes to meet a small round face, and turning her head, there were two more of the same.
“Mom, you’ve finally woken up, we missed you and dad so much.”
“Hmm~ did Pingping, An’an and Lele listen to grandma and grandpa?”
“Hmm, Pingping behaved.”
“An’an behaved too.”
“Lele was the most well-behaved.”
The three little ones nodded in unison.
“Did Pingping and An’an cry then?”
The three little ones looked at me and then at each other, blinking their big eyes without saying a word.
Susu tried to hold back her laughter and pinched each chubby cheek. “It seems you’ve all been doing well lately, your faces have gotten even rounder.”
Lele covered her little mouth and giggled, “Hee hee, mommy, Lele’s tummy is round~”
“Mom, brother’s and my tummy are round too.”
Pingping couldn’t wait and pulled her brother’s shirt up to show off their round bellies.
Susu, not knowing whether to laugh or cry, pulled down their clothes.
The summer was hot, and after four days on the train, Susu felt they all stank. The three of them took their siblings straight to the public baths.
Lu Xiaoting took the three boys to the men’s side, while Susu and her sister took Lele and the sisters Xiao Yu and Xiao Xue to the women’s side.
Sure enough, when the five women came out feeling refreshed, the father and sons had already been waiting in the lobby for a while.
“Mom, you’re so slow.”
Pingping and An’an flopped onto their mother’s legs, pouting unhappily.
“Did you get impatient?”
Susu, holding her little daughter, and the two sons holding their sister and aunt, left their father hanging in the back.
Lu Xiaoting helplessly shook his head and chided with a laugh, “You two rascals.”
At home, Mrs. Lu had sent her husband to the market early in the morning to buy meat and vegetables.
When the three adults returned home with the six kids, it was just time for dinner.
After several days of train bento boxes, Susu and the others were weary of the food—being nothing more than mass-cooked to fill the belly, the flavor was naturally mediocre.
“Mom, your cooking skills are getting better and better, and it’s delicious.”
“Auntie, this is delicious. Thank you, auntie and uncle.”
“Grandma, it’s very tasty.”
…
Although Lu Xiaoting did not love to express himself verbally, he showed his approval of the meal through his actions.
Father Lu glanced at his radiant wife and teased, “You keep praising her, and the old lady will fly to the sky.”
“You old man, what’s wrong? If you don’t like your wife’s cooking, then don’t eat it.”
Mrs. Lu said sternly, ready to take the stir-fried noodles away.
Father Lu gave a cough, “Ahem, it’s just that I’m afraid your mouth will crack from smiling too much.”
“You can’t stop talking even if you eat,” Mrs. Lu shot back sternly at her husband.
Su Nian and the others curled their lips and watched the old couple bickering, almost bursting into laughter.
After eating, Susu and the others weren’t idle; they busied themselves sorting through the packages they brought back.
One batch was sent to the shop by Lu Xiaoting on a tricycle, where he confirmed and checked each item of clothing and accessory with Zhang Guoming.
Susu and Su Nian continued to handle the rest of the clothes that needed to be sent to another shop, and also checked them in.
Father and Mother Lu didn’t understand these things and just followed their daughter-in-law’s orders.
The triplets quietly moved their stools, hugging their new toys, intently watching their mother and aunt at work, not making any fuss.
Tianyu and the three siblings watched their younger brothers and sisters while occasionally helping to serve tea and water.
With many hands, the work was done quickly. Susu straightened her back, looking at the bundles of sorted clothes and accessories loaded onto the vehicle, her eyes and smile beaming.
“Only with mom, dad, and my six lovely kids could we have done this so quickly. Otherwise, Su Nian and I would have been working until dark.”
The elderly couple smiled warmly, happy to be of help, and the six siblings were all smiles from the compliments.
…
That evening, Susu rode her bike with her sister to the new store.
“Sister-in-law, you’re back.”
Xiao Sun was squatting at the door, selling goods while keeping an eye on the new shop.
“Yes, we just finished sorting everything out this afternoon. We can move and hang the clothes tomorrow.”
Susu entered to check the interior of the store, which had the same style as the first store, and nodded in satisfaction.
