Chapter 188: Chapter 188 Gestures and Mimicry
Susu had her eldest son sit inside, while she herself sat next to the aisle, holding Lele. Pingping and Anan, the little brothers, were also held by Little Aunt’s husband and their second cousin once removed.
The siblings were taking a train for the first time in their lives and were extremely fascinated by the bustle of the people coming and going down the aisle.
Not until the train slowly started to “clack clack” its way forward did the four siblings excitedly shake their heads, wiggling their butts.
Pingping, “Mom, it’s moving, it’s moving.”
Anan, “Hehe~ Mom, it’s starting to move.”
Lele, “Mom, look outside.”
The triplets excitedly twisted their bodies to look out of the window, even the usually composed Tianyu was showing the liveliness and curiosity typical of his age.
“Mom, it’s getting faster.”
“Wow~ we’re leaving the city.”
The siblings all crowded around the small table, curiously discussing all sorts of things they saw along the way.
With the train full of people from all walks of life, Susu was worried about the children getting lost, so each of the kids had a sturdy strip of cloth tied around one arm.
The other end was tied to the arms or wrists of the adults. Of course, the string was long enough to allow the children some freedom to move about.
Tianyu, feeling a bit embarrassed, whispered into his mother’s ear, “Mom, I need to use the bathroom.”
“Use the bathroom? Mom will take you.”
Susu smiled and patted her bashful eldest son, then asked the other little ones, “Mom’s taking your big brother to the bathroom. Do any of you need to go?”
“Umm~ Pingping doesn’t want to pee.”
“Anan doesn’t need to pee either, Mom, you go ahead.”
Lele, with chubby hands on his tummy, grinned and shook his head, “Mom, Lele doesn’t need to pee either.”
But Susu knew exactly what her three kids were like and asked again, “Are you sure?”
The triplets nodded in unison, “Sure~”
“Alright, Lele stay with your uncle.”
Susu untied the strip of cloth from her arm and then held her eldest son’s hand as they made their way through the crowd to the bathroom.
“Xiao Yu, go use the bathroom and Mom will wait for you outside.”
“Mhm.”
Susu had heard too many cases of child trafficking, many of which occurred while the parents weren’t paying attention, and the children were lured away while going to the bathroom alone.
Therefore, better to be safe than sorry. Susu stood by the bathroom door, waiting.
As soon as mother and son returned to their seats, the triplets began to clutch their bottoms and cried that they wanted to use the bathroom.
Susu raised her hand and smacked each little butt, glaring at them, “Didn’t you say you didn’t need to go a moment ago?”
“Hehe, Mom, Anan suddenly feels like going now,” Anan said with a grin, hugging his mother’s face and giving her a kiss.
Pingping covered his mouth and snickered, “Mom, Pingping suddenly has to go, too.”
Lele raised his chubby hand, “And Lele too.”
Susu, “…”
…
Throughout the journey, the children started off excited, chattering away while eating and talking, but as time went on they wilted, continuously wondering why they hadn’t arrived yet.
“Mom, when will we get there?” Anan slumped listlessly onto Little Aunt’s husband.
“We’ll be there soon. Are you guys sleepy? If you’re sleepy, take a nap. Sleep a bit more, and we’ll be there.”
Susu soothed the three young ones, then turned to her eldest and said, “Xiao Yu, if you’re sleepy, lean on Mom or rest on the table for a while. It’s still early.”
Tianyu shook his head, “Mom, I’m not sleepy. How about I hold Lele, and you take a nap?”
Susu smiled, knowing her child was worried about her being tired, as she normally never missed a chance for a nap.
“No worries, Mommy’s not sleepy.”
The latter half of the train journey progressed as the lethargic triplets asked over and over again in short intervals, gradually making their way into the Capital.
The adults all heaved sighs of relief, finally reaching the Capital, never before feeling time drag so slowly.
The three adults quickly tied the ribbons around the little ones’ arms and got their luggage together, preparing in advance.
It was during the summer vacation and the train was crowded. The group, holding the kids, trailed behind, their hearts skipping a beat at the sight of the dense crowd ahead.
Fearing they might be separated by the crowd, Susu strapped her daughter to her chest, with Xiao Yu in the middle between Xiao Sun and Susu, holding tightly to her uncle and mother’s hands.
Su Chenghe carried An’an, protecting her as he followed behind Xiao Yu.
Once the group of seven managed to board the southbound train’s sleeper carriage, they could finally take a breath.
The four siblings looked around curiously, chattering away like little sparrows.
“Take off your shoes and play on the bed.”
The Susu triplets took off their shoes. Susu herself sat to the side, leg tossed over the lower bunk opposite her, keeping watch over the four kids.
“Xiao Sun, Cheng He, you two go nap first, I’ll watch the kids.”
“We need to be quiet, okay? There are uncles and aunties sleeping. We can’t wake anyone up,” whispered Susu, reminding the little ones.
“Okay~ Got it, Mommy.”
The triplets simultaneously covered their mouths with their hands, resorting to gestures for communication and when that failed, they whispered in each other’s ears.
With nothing to do and fearing she might fall asleep, Susu pulled out a book to read.
As the sky darkened outside, the three adults and four kids had five boxed meals, after which the little ones all fell asleep, sprawled in every direction.
“Sister-in-law, you sleep a bit. I’ll keep watch.”
“Okay, I’m too tired to stay up anyway.”
Because there were three adults and seven children with only three sleeper berths, and for fear of someone stealing the kids in the night, the three adults took turns sitting watch.
The two men took turns keeping watch at night, while Susu slept straight through until around five or six in the morning.
She laid out the thick mats she brought on the floor and sat directly on them, providing ample space while keeping an eye on her brothers sleeping peacefully beside her.
When all the children woke up, cautious of the people in the upper bunks moving around, Susu folded up half the mat again.
Children are naturally active, and after feeding and watering, the triplets ran up and down between the mat and the lower bunk.
Susu, fearing the little ones might hit their heads on the small table in their excitement, extended her arms to protect them.
On the first day, laying on the swaying sleeper berth, the triplets were excited and curious about everything.
By the second day, however, the triplets grew restless, asking every so often, “Why aren’t we there yet?”
As the triplets wilted like three tired flowers, the group finally saw the light of hope.
Not for any other reason, but because the train’s carriage announced it was entering Yangcheng.
“Wow~ That’s great, we can get off the train.”
“Hehe, we can finally get off the train.”
“Mommy, it’s hot.”
Even the sensible Tianyu’s eyes lit up, his mouth curving into a broad smile.
Susu felt her daughter’s sweaty forehead and quickly fanned her with a fan, then gave her two chubby sons a pat on the butt.
“Are you two hot?”
“Hehe, hot.”
Both bald brothers had sweaty heads and grinned as they leaned in to enjoy the breeze.
Susu pulled out a towel from her bag and wiped the kids’ sweat, “Here, fan yourselves.”
