Frightening Joke: Above the Mist
Chapter 359: Wayless
CHAPTER 359: CHAPTER 359: WAYLESS
Gu Pingsheng had considered many possibilities, but Ren Wudao was not one of them.
His gaze lingered between Ren Wudao and Chen Tianzhen.
"Hello." Gu Pingsheng extended his hand, touching Ren Wudao’s only briefly.
"I’m curious, Mr. Ren, how you convinced him to betray the Dark Abyss." Gu Pingsheng fixed his eyes on Ren Wudao, not missing any of his subtle actions.
Ren Wudao shook his head and said, "I didn’t convince him; he chose me."
"Doctor Gu, I’m not his subordinate," Chen Tianzhen crossed his arms and sat on a chair, looking at Gu Pingsheng, "Some time ago, Ren Wudao was targeted by the Paper Card and planned to develop as a dark post for Fog Gathering. He played along, feigned madness, and successfully portrayed himself as a frenzied and chaotic brother trying to save his dying sister."
"I must say, your acting is quite remarkable," Chen Tianzhen couldn’t tell if it was praise or criticism.
"That wasn’t acting," Ren Wudao shook his head in denial, "When the Paper Card first contacted me, I was indeed in a state of panic. But when I realized Dark Abyss wanted me to infiltrate Fog Gathering as a dark post, that was when I truly began pretending to be an idiot."
"Being a dark post doesn’t require a genius mind; appropriately showing some chaos, lack of control, even stupidity, helps in dealing with a bunch of self-proclaimed smart people, doesn’t it?" Ren Wudao said, directed at Chen Tianzhen.
"Hahaha..." Chen Tianzhen laughed, making the scars on his face appear even more menacing, "You’re right, the Dark Abyss is a bunch of self-righteous fools. They thought they’d controlled a piece, not realizing that piece spent less than a month finding a way to open the gap through Dark Abyss’s data, then... successfully staged a fake death and escaped."
"Doctor Gu, tell me, the majority who studied the data for ten years couldn’t track the gap, yet this person, with limited and fragmented data, managed to piece it together and found the gap? Compared to him, isn’t the Dark Abyss a bunch of fools?"
Hearing Chen Tianzhen’s words, Gu Pingsheng finally began to seriously regard Ren Wudao.
He had come into contact with Dr. Zhou’s research data, which was something an ordinary person couldn’t understand. The scope of knowledge was vast and the logic complex, something he had never seen in his life. More importantly, those who could understand the data wouldn’t believe it, and those willing to believe it couldn’t understand it, creating a huge contradiction.
Seeing Ren Wudao didn’t deny it, Gu Pingsheng knew that ninety percent of what Chen Tianzhen said was true.
This meant... this young man indeed tricked the Dark Abyss alone and quietly dug away one of Dark Abyss’s members—a musician.
Although it seemed crude, Chen Tianzhen truly was a musician, and his talent was exceptionally outstanding, but... that was ten years ago.
"Mr. Chen considers me a good choice; he just invested in me," Ren Wudao stated simply.
"Is Li Mu with you?" Gu Pingsheng suddenly asked.
Ren Wudao raised his brow and nodded, "Yes, I sent him into the gap."
"Good." Gu Pingsheng said softly. He turned and brewed a pot of tea, handing a cup each to Ren Wudao and Chen Tianzhen, "Please sit."
Ren Wudao took the tea, sniffed it, and set it aside.
"I hope Mr. Gu can transform me into Bai Yanliang."
"Certainly, what’s the reason?"
Gu Pingsheng held his tea, gently sniffing it.
"Bai Yanliang can’t die," Ren Wudao said seriously, "Dark Abyss plans to lure him to Eighteenth Middle School, making him miss the task time and die under the rules."
"You intend to replace Bai Yanliang and execute the task?" Gu Pingsheng looked at Ren Wudao incredulously, "This isn’t a joke; if you fail, you will truly die."
"I know," Ren Wudao was quite calm, "He is more important than I am."
"The key I hold has transformative abilities, but it might not deceive Fog Gathering and the ghost," Gu Pingsheng thought for a moment and spoke again.
"It can," Ren Wudao was more confident than Gu Pingsheng himself, "Mr. Gu, your key is the Key of Blood-colored Prison Master."
"Did you also tell him this?" Gu Pingsheng looked at Chen Tianzhen.
Chen Tianzhen shrugged, "I’m a gambler; once I bet, I bet everything."
"Fine," Gu Pingsheng pondered for a moment and looked at Ren Wudao, "One last question."
"Please go ahead."
"Why do you go to such lengths for Bai Yanliang?" As soon as he said this, the clinic fell silent.
Ren Wudao remained silent, a rare contemplative expression on his face.
"I can’t tell you much," Ren Wudao said solemnly, "The first time I opened the gap, I saw someone."
"Who?"
It was actually Chen Tianzhen who asked this question.
And despite asking, his expression was terrible, clearly having guessed who it was.
Ren Wudao didn’t answer, just quietly looking at him.
"You’re messing with me!" Chen Tianzhen suddenly stepped forward, grabbing Ren Wudao by the collar and glaring at him, "Why are you helping him!"
Chen Tianzhen’s strength was great, and Ren Wudao gasped a little for breath.
But his expression remained calm.
"I am not helping him."
Ren Wudao used a bit of strength to pry Chen Tianzhen’s hand away.
"Bai Yanliang cannot die," His tone carried a hint of resentment, "If he dies, all of us are doomed."
Chen Tianzhen was stunned, and Gu Pingsheng stopped drinking his tea.
Although Ren Wudao didn’t say it explicitly, the two of them already guessed what that person had done to Bai Yanliang.
"Damn it!" Chen Tianzhen punched the chair, "That madman really transferred that door into that kid’s body!"
"I heard that ten years ago the Eight Prisons cooperated and summoned a mysterious door. Forty-nine people entered to explore, and only eighteen came out alive. Those eighteen survived because one person sacrificed themselves, taking all the curse of that door," Ren Wudao said calmly.
"Bullshit!" Chen Tianzhen was furious, "It was a scam from the beginning!"
"The events of that year are set in stone; in any case, Bai Yanliang cannot die," Ren Wudao looked at Gu Pingsheng, "His importance, Mr. Gu understands better than I do."
"Dr. Zhou’s data clearly states, the Nine Prisons... correspond to nine gates, all of which must remain."
"Enough." Gu Pingsheng stood up, "I agree to your request."
"However, you must understand one thing," Gu Pingsheng said, "Due to the outburst of Ghost Gate back then, the time and space of Eighteenth Middle School is chaotic. If Bai Yanliang goes there, he could lose himself in the endless chaotic time-space, which is no different from death."
Ren Wudao nodded, "I know."
"This is also one reason I did not disrupt Dark Abyss’s plan, letting Bai Yanliang be trapped in chaotic time-space to become neither alive nor dead is a better choice, isn’t it?"
