CHAPTER 13: FIRST DUNGEON (1)

This was the first time in a long time that I went so far away from the junkyard, yet alone a central part of the city. I don’t really know what to expect inside of the dungeon since I have no experience.

"Rokuro look." Ghost gets my attention while looking up at the sky.

From here I could see the city of Elyndra up in the sky. Massive chains coming out from the sides of its hull, the visible power lines filled with some sort of bright blue substance.

Most likely mana itself fueling the city up there, and I can see everything is brightly lit up there. All the buildings were glowing bright and I’m sure people are looking down at everything below.

"Elyndra is quite the sight." I say before turning my head back towards the road.

It’s always hovered above us, looking down on everyone who lives within the cities below. Elyndra has been around for quite a long time but it wasn’t as popular before the collapse happened.

People she just started going up there more after it finally finished construction. I would love to see what it’s like up there but I don’t know if it’d be some place worth staying.

Not for someone like me.

"Elyndra..." She mutters.

Without realizing it we had made our way to the entrance of the dungeon, a giant crater like door stood before us.

"I’d make sure to have that sword ready, I’ve never seen anything in the dungeons before." I suggest while pulling out my wrench.

It probably would’ve been smarter to make myself a weapon like hers but I didn’t have a lot of time on my hands. Ghost should also be capable of helping out with a lot of the fighting here.

"A new experience for us both, I like it." Ghost responds with a bit of excitement in her voice.

"You can’t let fear overtake you in here though. Monsters will definitely have a way bigger number advantage here, way worse than in the outside world." I say with a bit of worry in my voice.

I’ve heard stories in passing about the dungeons themselves but I never once knew what was true or not. These places tend to be a lot better suited for bigger groups since they can handle the numbers.

Upon entering the dungeon I could feel the complete change in atmosphere compared to the roads outside. The air was thick with the scent of mold, decay, and even some rust.

The walls all seem to be carved stone, worn smooth over time and covered in all sorts of vines. Vines like this would never typically grow in a place like this but somehow they managed to survive.

"This place is...kind of creepy." Ghost speaks up while getting closer to me.

"I agree but there’s got to be something meaningful here." I say while continuing on.

Cracked floors, dimly light torches a long the walls, and some skeletons from those who didn’t originally make it here. Something also seems to be dripping from the ceiling with each step that we take, most likely water or... Potentially blood.

If I kept analyzing it too much I’d eventually scare myself into turning back around so it was better to keep pushing without thinking. That would be the best way to go about this situation for now since I need to find my purpose somehow.

We traveled further along the path until finally seeing some shift in the walls as two paths became clear before us. One branches off to the left while the other goes to the right.

"I suck at choosing, what do you think Ghost?" I ask while scratching my head.

There were some strange things engraved on the walls for both of the paths, almost some sort of writing but it wasn’t able to be read. Both paths had little lighting to them so it would be a semi dark walk for either one of them.

"Left." Ghost responds while moving closer to me.

She’s definitely as close as she can get to me and I can see that her grip on that sword looks even tighter. I’m quite terrified to be in here myself but I managed to fight off those damn whisperspawn.

If I could put fear aside to fight them, then I can do this too.

We ventured down the left path and began to follow the strange walls as they started to curve. They seem to be curving off to the left even more and a bit deeper than expected.

Nonetheless we continue down the path with no hesitation as we watch for any potential dangers.

"I...I really hope that we don’t have to be here long." Ghost says with a scared tome obvious in her voice.

"Everything will be fine Ghost." I assure her while we continue.

I can also feel the pain in my gut still pulsing throughout my body, it’s a terrible feeling. I’ll make sure to never get stabbed by a damn whisperspawn again.

Stabbed or cut to be exact.

The path finally seems to be coming to a close as we reach an open room with torches all around. The floor was completely different from the pathway, it seems to be a strange white marble floor with a bunch of chairs in the center of the room.

A table was there too of course, they seem to be seated around it. An old door was behind the whole setup so I’m assuming that is the way to go.

This is definitely quite strange, why would a place like this exist within a dungeon? I’ve never heard of areas like this but I guess I never asked much about the dungeon stories to begin with.

I scratched my head once again while making my way towards the strange table in the distance.

"Just be ready for whatever awaits us." I advise Ghost while gripping my wrench.

At least we weren’t in some pitch black room.
