CHAPTER 184: GHOST AND HER MEMORIES (2)
"I’ll break the tension a little bit. I’m Zero and I just am here looking for someone, nothing more." He spoke up with a laid back tone.
"You have a very interesting sniper, Zero. Hopefully we can finish this gunfight a bit faster. Also, there was no tension." I said with a serious tone.
"I think we can. You just brought extra strength to this fight." Zero replied while lifting up his sniper.
001 didn’t seem to care or have any issues with the new name that I gave her, that was a good sign for me.
The battle waged on for awhile after that, killing a bunch of watchers while utilizing my full cybernetic modifications to the max. The bodies just kept dropping and the guys just kept coming.
But I couldn’t help but listen to the sound of that sniper going off behind me every few moments.
Gunfire was all around us with no end in sight, at least that’s how it felt for a good while. But eventually it came to an end with me using the last of the bullets in my current magazine.
"They finally stopped shooting, safe to assume they are dead or ran off." I said with a bit of confidence.
"Then I guess this is where we depart. I don’t plan to interfere with whatever you guys have going on." Zero responded while slinging the sniper over his back.
He was a relatively respectful guy compared to most of the people that we heard about in Kairox. It wasn’t really someone I expected to meet.
Zero was a name that was impossible to forget as well.
"I appreciate you helping out Rena. I’m sure this won’t be the last time we see each other. We are going to be roaming the streets more anyway." I said with a serious tone.
"I’m sure it’ll make a difference." Zero replied before beginning to walk off.
"Best of luck finding whoever you are looking for!" Rena shouted.
I guess they must’ve had some sort of conversation before I met up with them. But I didn’t think I was away from her for that long. Originally Rena was only left alone for a few moments or at least that’s what it felt like to me.
"Rena, huh? You never went over that with me before." 001 said with a bit of confusion in her voice.
"It just feels a lot better having real names over some numbers." I replied with a bit of nervousness in my voice.
"I like it, so don’t even worry about it. Just talk to me about stuff in the future before you say anything to some random people." Rena said with a bit of joy in her voice.
Even behind her mask I could tell she was smiling somehow, it was quite surprising. At the time I expected her to give me some grief about the names.
"Will do." I replied with a smile.
After Rena got done giving the report, we made our way further down the streets since we were patrolling anyway. Killing was easy for someone like us since it was embedded within our systems.
"Command said we are clear to keep moving regardless. Just keep killing any threats that come our way Alysia." Rena said.
"That was the plan either way." I responded.
Rena was definitely a lot nicer than I ever was back then since she had some sort of care within her. Not every cyborg had this kind of emotion.
It was considered a danger if any of us showed real emotions in the field since it could cause the death of a squad member. My emotions were there but I did my best to hide them most of the time.
I figured it was a lot easier that way so that I didn’t risk dying to the soldiers back at base.
"They’d kill you for having emotions?" Rokuro asks with a curious tone.
"Yes." I answer without hesitation before continuing.
The remainder of our patrol was met with silence as we continued to wander the streets of Kairox. This district wasn’t as nice as the other districts within the city.
I believe it was referred to as the deadline sector but I could be wrong, my memories are still coming back.
"Do you think we’ll run into anymore threats?" Rena asked with a bit of concern.
"You have a shield and I have the proper steel to handle any threats, we’ll handle them with ease." I answered with a confident tone.
"Defense does make a difference. None of them really think about that out here." Rena said.
"They assume that metal can solve all problems during fights when that isn’t the only thing that should be considered." I replied with a bit of disappointment in my voice.
People weren’t all dumb in Kairox but they prefer to rely on cybernetic modifications since it can make a difference in certain situations. It really depends on what they get done or what the enemy is using.
The guy we met, Zero. He had some sort of metal arm with mana infused within it which was kind of insane. The doc who gave him that was definitely working on a prototype.
Mana infused limbs was definitely not a common practice at this time since it can pose various risks if someone is incapable of using mana.
Not everyone is able to use it.
"Do you hear that?" Rena asked with a curious tone.
I took a moment to listen closely and I could just barely hear the sound of a blade swinging. Someone was nearby using a sword to kill people.
"Just barely. A swordsman is nearby." I answered while lifting my rifle up.
The only known swordsman was considered a myth by most gangs and even the government themselves thought the same thing.
This wraith was causing a bunch of problems within the streets because of the people they started killing. But the government wants nothing done since they can be useful to us.
