CHAPTER 22: DEFEND THE CITY (1)

A few monsters with a humanoid like appearance except they didn’t seem to have a face and are wearing completely tattered clothing. They also seem to have broken staffs in their hands.

"Husks are also here it seems. We need to start clearing these monsters as quickly as we can." Lukas instructs before dashing past us.

He’s really giving out some orders to now? This guy really is something but this is the perfect opportunity for me to test out my true strength. Lilly and ghost will also be able to assist me in this battle as well.

"No time to waste, might as well jump in guys." I say before charging in myself.

I could see other hunters fighting ahead of me with various talents, magic, and even just brute strength. None of them stuck out as much as Lukas did.

He appeared to be using lightning in his hands against the monsters, almost like they were swords for him to utilize. Lightning and some intense speed from what I can see right now.

"No time to be impressed." I say softly while charging in.

My blood felt like it was boiling, my whole body was hot as if a fire was lit inside of me. It seems everything was kicking in like the last time but I wasn’t letting rage consume me this time.

Why shouldn’t it consume you?

Let it engulf you.

We can do so much more with all that anger and hatred for those who looked down on us.

This voice is always talking to me... A voice that I always took as my own, one that I would answer to all the time lately. But it was never my own voice, was it?

It didn’t matter what voice was talking to me because right now we needed to defend the City without any hesitation. I could feel my speed picking up once again as my vision started to distort briefly.

I could see my bandages starting to burn as my body got hotter and hotter.

"I’ll handle some of the Husks. Ghost you should help Lukas with the Ashreavers." Lilly suggests before disappearing within an instant.

"Understood..." Ghost replies hesitantly as her hand shakes while holding the sword.

I could just barely hear what Lilly said to ghost but it was kind of jumbled up since we weren’t all next to each other anymore. Learning to control this power in the future really will make quite the difference.

As I approached the Ashreavers I began to wind my fist for my first attack against one of these monsters. I put my full force into the punch as it connected with the monsters abdomen, sending a small shockwave out it’s back.

It felt as if I was punching a brick wall but the pain wasn’t all that noticeable with the power being active right now. The Ashreaver didn’t seem to pleased by it.

It let out a big roar before swinging its giant fists towards me, but it was like everything slowed down. The attack was coming at me really slow, was this normal?

I never thought that the powers of a dragon could have such an effect but I can use this to my advantage. I’ll use this to overcome anything in this battle, even if I’m exhausted by the end of it all.

I swiftly dodge the attack and hit it with two quick strikes, a punch from my left hand and then my right. Both sent shockwaves out it’s back and before I knew it, the monster had fallen onto the ground.

That took a lot more than the monster back in the dungeon but I guess these guys are a lot more tanky. I hope ghost and Lilly are doing okay against them.

I turned to see Lilly quickly disposing of the husks in the distance, she was burning them to a crisp like a piece of paper in a fire pit. Ghost on the other hand was just barely dodging the attacks of an Ashreaver... That was until I noticed the swing of her sword cut right through its leg and then its arm, soon enough it fell.

Both of them appeared to be doing just fine against the current threats at hand. Lukas also seemed to be a lot stronger than I anticipated but I don’t know how much I’ll be able to do.

Especially if monsters stronger than this show up... It took me quite a bit of punches just to take down this guy.

Awakening this power more will definitely be the way to go about this but I don’t know how to do that just yet. I’ve only had it for about a day or so now I believe.

"Spacing out? We still got plenty of monsters to deal with Rokuro. I mean, I can handle them myself with no problem anyway." Lukas interrupts my thoughts with his cocky attitude once again.

I didn’t even know he went past me or that he was gone that quick but it seems he is going to be like that regardless. I’ll just do my best to help stop as many monsters as possible.

The city wasn’t getting completely destroyed just yet, some buildings had a bit of damage and some citizens were dead but it seems we made it before the storm. There wasn’t an excessive amount of them so we truly might be able to stop all of this from getting worse.

I could also see other hunters from the Velgrade guild fighting too so it wasn’t just us against them all. We were all fighting together in this battle against the monsters.

I’m definitely going to figure out what the ranks are of all the monsters that attacked here today.

1, 2, 3, 4, 5, 6. The numbers seem to go up with each hour that passes by. I was dropping a fair amount of the monsters, same with Ghost and Lilly.

Lilly is definitely a lot stronger than I could’ve imagined and Ghost managed to put her fear aside for the time being.

This city will be defended at all costs.
