From a Talentless nobody to An SSS Class Dragon
Chapter 44: Peace of Mind
CHAPTER 44: PEACE OF MIND
I don’t mind the singing itself but it’s definitely quite weird to come onto a floor like this after the previous one. There’s something else bothering me about this floor as well but I don’t know what it is just yet.
"I think it’s peaceful." Veria says while looking around.
Taking in the scenery around us I could definitely understand how it could be seen as peaceful. There wasn’t much of a hostile feeling to the floor, mostly it felt like we could walk with ease.
"Why would we get a floor like this anyway?" I ask curiously.
She continues to walk with me as we both take in the scenery. "Peace of mind is good for those who need it. This is a buffer before facing the challenge on the next floor." Veria answers without any hesitation.
A buffer before facing a harder challenge ahead, how interesting. I didn’t really know what to expect with the sudden change in environment before.
The floors before were easy to handle until we had to face off against that strange guy with the mask. He forced me to push past my limits and I didn’t really think that I’d be able to do that.
Towers are always good for helping people get stronger, otherwise they die.
Becoming stronger in such a place isn’t good for everyone so it makes sense that some would die. I wonder how many will get past a floor like the one we dealt with.
I know there are a lot of different talents, powers, and magic users in the world but how many could actually handle this?
I’m also still a bit confused when it comes to the difference between powers and talents.
One day you’ll understand but it’s not something I want to explain.
"Rokuro are you just going to ignore me?" Veria asks while standing in front of me.
I look at her for a second and then back up. "I was just thinking about some things. What’d you say?" I respond while scratching my head.
"Are you going to be able to handle that power of yours?" She questions with more of a serious tone in her voice.
I’ve been able to handle it so far without any problems so I don’t see why it would be a problem all of a sudden. The only issue I see myself having to face is the bloodlust.
Bloodlust is the biggest problem that I’ve dealt with when using this power but it only happens with humans right now. I’ll be done for if it ever turns into anything more than that.
Humans. It kind of makes sense in a way since dragons were always pursued by humans in fantasy stories. Sometimes for treasure or to save a princess, but either way it was usually a human.
"I’ll be able to handle it." I say with confidence.
"Good. The next floor is the equivalent to a boss monster, that is kind of the normal routine for the tower." Veria replies while staring ahead.
Her voice is always quiet with a bit of a softness behind her words but yet she can still be serious, annoyed, or even a bit concerned.
It’s definitely interesting to be traveling with her through these floors.
"How many floors have you gone through?" I question.
She takes a second to answer and we get closer to the door. "I’ve never gone that far in the towers since I don’t need the help." Veria answers with a laid back tone.
I know that she’s strong but can’t you get even stronger by climbing these floors? That’s why I’m here, to get stronger and learn to control my power better.
By the time I finish in here I want to be able to hide the dragon like appearance I’ve been taking on more. Hunters will assume the worse if a guy like me shows up looking like a monster.
"Why’d they even rise?" I ask calmly.
"Towers rise after a certain condition is met within the world. Obviously someone got the world to that point somehow which is why they are here now." Veria answers.
I’m not sure when the towers began to rise specifically but I do know that everything began to happen after I left the dungeon. My powers awakened there, Ashvalis was attacked, and now towers rise?
All of that feels linked to the dungeon I was in... Just I can’t guarantee that it’s the right answer.
"Anyway this floor was nice and peaceful. A good break from all the fighting." Veria says while stretching.
The next door seems to be completely normal, almost exactly like the first set of doors we came through. Why was the floor to the so called boss the most tame?
Some engravings were on it but they were in a language that I couldn’t understand whatsoever.
I look towards Veria with a bit of a confused expression. "Do you know what this says?" I ask while confused.
"Demons await on the next floor. A legendary one at that so it won’t be a very fun fight for us." Veria responds while prepping her sword.
This was new, she was putting something on her blade. It was some sort of strange clear liquid that seem to leave mist around the sword.
"I’ll have to use my power a lot more like the last floor huh." I say while scratching my chin.
I was hoping that I’d be able to avoid using it excessively since it caused me to blackout last time. There’s got to be some way for me to get past the blacking out, even with the excessive use of my power.
Your body just needs to adjust to it still.
I’m only human so it makes sense that I would have to keep using it until my body is acclamated to it. That’s such a pain in the ass but it’s not able to be avoided.
"Probably. Let’s head on inside, the boss is waiting." Veria replies before pushing the door open.
