CHAPTER 103: CHAPTER 103: MEDDLING IN OTHER PEOPLE’S BUSINESS
So at this point, Jiang Xin clearly wasn’t foolish enough to immediately start explaining herself.
She wanted to first observe the reactions of the people at the surrounding tables.
If they all felt like this middle-aged man and thought her choice of dishes was wrong, then she would temporarily hold back and listen to what they had to say.
If all the guests at the nearby tables shared the same opinion as this middle-aged man,
then it might be better to wait for them to finish talking before she retaliated against each one of them.
There’s simply no need to come to the State-owned Restaurant for a meal and end up being outraged by strangers.
Of course, she would fight back; how could she possibly let them find satisfaction in berating her?
To put it bluntly, they’re just a bunch of insecure men who can’t stand seeing others doing better than them.
Jiang Xin thought the logic was simple; she had just one word that could easily unravel these men, even though she hadn’t bothered to say it yet.
Sure enough, when the middle-aged man’s words fell, he saw Jiang Xin not responding immediately and grew a bit anxious.
If Jiang Xin didn’t play along with his game, the speech he just made in front of all these people...
would surely make him lose face in public, and at that point, how embarrassed would he be?
These people might even think he was being nosy and mock him behind his back.
After considering, the middle-aged man decisively shifted the conversation to the people sitting nearby.
Because he noticed that indeed, while he was speaking, one by one, they turned to Jiang Xin, scrutinizing her.
So the middle-aged man suddenly had an idea; he directly threw the topic to the few diners at the adjacent table, asking them:
"How about you gentlemen at the next table, I figure your ages are similar to mine, so according to this logic, the children in your family should be about the same age as this young girl, right?"
With the middle-aged man’s interjection, the guests at the surrounding tables who were initially watching Jiang Xin started to join in.
Sure enough, just as Jiang Xin had thought, they had no difference at all and all began to pile on criticisms like that middle-aged man:
"Yes, based on your age, young lady, you likely don’t know how hard it is to earn money. For you, dining alone, three dishes and a soup indeed seems a bit too wasteful."
"Why not take this chance, since the dishes aren’t ready yet, and quickly go find a server to cancel two of them? That way, you can also save some money!"
"Your parents must be around our age too; earning money is tough now, so you should try to understand your parents."
"Yes, yes, what that table said is spot on. Kids these days are way too selfish, not knowing how to empathize with their parents at all."
"So young, yet only knows how to enjoy, do you even realize how hard your parents work to earn money?"
"If she were my kid, she wouldn’t be going to the State-owned Restaurant for a meal at her age; I can tell you’re ungrateful, only caring about personal enjoyment."
"Yeah, listen to what the table next to you said; although their words may be a bit harsh, they’re saying it for your benefit. Don’t be put off by their rough manner. Hurry up, while the waiter hasn’t sent your order to the kitchen yet, go to him and cancel it. Two dishes should suffice for you. Little kids like you, definitely shouldn’t learn to be wasteful."
Upon hearing these words, all those around echoed in agreement, none refuting them.
Jiang Xin was simply laughed off by this.
She thought these people were ridiculous; the money she earned, she spent it how she liked. They had nothing better to do than begin to scold her instead of focusing on their meals, utterly speechless.
Jiang Xin wasn’t the type to be easily bullied. She was merely at the State-owned Restaurant to buy a meal.
Not saying a word didn’t mean she was easy to push around.
Jiang Xin simply thought of Lin Ye waiting for her to return with the meal for lunch.
If she started arguing with these people, she might waste quite a lot of time.
After all, Jiang Xin knew her own combat abilities well.
If she got into an argument, they might not wrap it up in half an hour.
Initially, Jiang Xin didn’t want to bother with them.
But these people really were too shameless, taking advantage of their age to come and criticize her, so they better be ready if they dared.
Jiang Xin cleared her throat, glanced at the people around her, let out a cold laugh, then said:
"Don’t assume seeing me young means you can easily bully me. Don’t be a nosy busybody like a dog catching a rat."
"You’re not my parents, so what right do you have to manage me?"
"I spend my own money however I wish, order as many dishes as I want; everyone has different spending levels. Do you expect the wealthy to live the same way as you and just eat one dish per meal? That’s downright ridiculous."
"Like all of you, I’m a customer dining at this restaurant, so what gives you the right to point fingers at me with this kind of speech?"
"If you want to educate someone, go home and teach your own children. Don’t try to teach others when you haven’t even educated your own properly."
"What I do and who I am have nothing to do with you; the only ones who can educate me are my parents, not any of you."
After Jiang Xin said this, she planned to wave over the server to check if her dishes were ready.
If they were ready, she wanted to grab them and leave, not intending to linger in this smoky place for too long.
This place was truly too much of a mess, with these middle-aged men one more annoying than the next.
Anyone who wanted to teach her should first examine if they even had the capability.
Jiang Xin’s statements immediately angered those who had spoken earlier.
They initially planned on teaching Jiang Xin a lesson due to her young age.
But this attempt to assert dominance didn’t work and even got turned around on them, so how could they possibly be pleased?
Especially the middle-aged man who initially criticized Jiang Xin for being wasteful, his face suddenly turned ashen.
Being talked back to in such a way by a young girl of eighteen or nineteen?
Wouldn’t he lose face?
