From Cannon Fodder to '80s Tycoon with My Space Supermarket
Chapter 108: Spaced Out
CHAPTER 108: CHAPTER 108: SPACED OUT
The food made by the chefs at the State-owned Restaurant is really quite good.
At least, it tastes way better than the food Jiang Xin cooks herself.
A hundred times better wouldn’t be an exaggeration.
Jiang Xin’s assessment of her own cooking skills is that it’s barely edible.
As for the taste, it’s really indescribable. Even though she uses the best ingredients from her space, her lack of culinary skills results in wasting such high-quality ingredients.
The chef in the restaurant clearly has some skills.
Even with the common ingredients of this era, their dishes taste many times better than what Jiang Xin makes.
So, the money spent is well worth it. Besides, she’s been busy all morning with other things, including gathering evidence of Zhou Kuangyu and Jiang Wan’s affair, leaving her no time to cook.
As for Lin Ye, he’s been busy setting up a stall in the market since nine in the morning.
He doesn’t have any time for anything else, so when it comes to eating, he has to entrust this important task to Jiang Xin.
Although Jiang Xin’s startup is just beginning and she doesn’t have much capital,
she tries to be frugal wherever possible, as it’s the best approach.
However, she realizes that there are things worth saving on and others that aren’t.
If she were eating alone, she could just grab something from her space to fill her stomach, since it’s all high-quality ingredients, easily cooked for a balanced meal.
Even if it doesn’t taste good, Jiang Xin can still manage to eat it.
But now the situation is different, as she and Lin Ye both need to eat, so taste becomes a priority.
After all, you can’t serve bad food to someone working for you.
If it were her, working hard and receiving a plate of awful food in return, she would be quite disappointed.
Fortunately, they’re making money every day, and eating is one of the biggest events of the day, providing energy for work.
Moreover, Jiang Xin isn’t overly stingy. The supplies in her space can be sold for profit.
Their combined costs for lunch and dinner don’t exceed thirty yuan.
Just by selling a few items, they can cover this expense.
So, they can afford to eat well.
Jiang Xin picked up a piece of braised pork from the lunchbox and chewed it.
While eating, she paid attention to their surroundings, careful not to ignore any customers approaching the stall because of their meal.
After all, the customer is king.
And what she saw was Lin Ye, holding the lunchbox, still in the same motion of receiving it.
Lin Ye stood there dazed, lost in his thoughts.
Jiang Xin was momentarily stunned, not understanding why Lin Ye, having already received his meal, still wasn’t eating.
After all, if they waited any longer, the dishes and rice would truly go cold.
They had already spent time bringing it from the State-owned Restaurant to the market, and if they waited further, it’d be cold and unappetizing.
So Jiang Xin couldn’t help but remind him:
"Why are you just standing there? Hurry up and eat!"
"There aren’t many people at the stall right now, both of us can manage it. So don’t worry, just eat first."
"If you wait any longer, the food will get cold and won’t taste as good."
Lin Ye had been lost in his old thoughts, completely forgetting he was in the market, manning a stall.
Without Jiang Xin’s reminder, he might have stood there absentmindedly for an indefinite period.
Upon hearing Jiang Xin call, Lin Ye snapped back to reality, looked at Jiang Xin, his face turning red with embarrassment.
Here he was, almost thirty, yet still not as composed as Jiang Xin, an eighteen-year-old girl.
He had asked about Jiang Xin’s age the day before, and on learning she was only eighteen, he was genuinely shocked.
He pondered how different people can be, reflecting that at eighteen, he probably didn’t have such a business mindset.
It’s no wonder she’s making money!
Indeed, intelligence is innate.
Lin Ye, coming to his senses, saw Jiang Xin still watching him and awkwardly scratched his head, then said:
"Okay, I’ll eat right away."
"I was just lost in thought for a moment on something else."
Lin Ye felt somewhat annoyed with himself for zoning out for so long, and worse, being noticed by Jiang Xin.
He couldn’t possibly explain why he was distracted, could he?
He couldn’t very well tell Jiang Xin it was because he was so touched by her bringing him food, leading to his daydreaming, could he? That would be too embarrassing.
Though he was grateful, he couldn’t express it. If he did, it might make both of them feel awkward.
So after stammering for a while, Lin Ye simply said he’d eat right away.
Thus, that was the end of it.
Upon hearing Lin Ye say he was distracted thinking about something else, Jiang Xin didn’t press further.
Everyone has their privacy, after all. Although Jiang Xin is Lin Ye’s boss, she shouldn’t pry into his personal affairs.
Sometimes people choose not to share, and it’s for reasons that might be personal, especially for someone like Lin Ye, who’s been through so much.
If he didn’t want to talk about it, there was bound to be a reason.
So despite her curiosity, Jiang Xin decided not to ask further.
During their meal, few people approached the stall to browse.
