CHAPTER 29: CHAPTER 29: STOOD UP

Jiang Xin’s eyes flickered.

She took out a mat from the sack, which she used to lay on the ground to prevent the goods from getting dirty when setting up a stall.

Yesterday, Jiang Xin used a basket when setting up her stall, so she didn’t have to worry about the issue of dirt.

But today was different. The items she brought were rather miscellaneous, and laying them on the ground would be more convenient.

Moreover, customers buying things could choose what they wanted.

Jiang Xin took the mat out of her bag and handed it to Lin Ye.

She planned to send Lin Ye away and then said calmly:

"Here’s this mat for you. Lay it on the ground and we’ll dump everything onto it in a while."

Lin Ye wasn’t really sure what was going on, but he was entirely obedient to Jiang Xin at the moment.

Jiang Xin was his boss; whatever she said, he would do.

"Sure, no problem."

"I’ll go lay out the mat now."

Lin Ye gestured an ’all good’ sign to Jiang Xin.

Then, he walked forward briskly, came up to Jiang Xin, and took the mat.

He then went to lay the mat out.

The spot Jiang Xin had chosen was relatively open, with only two other vendors nearby.

Moreover, the items those vendors were selling were completely different from Jiang Xin’s stuff.

So there was no need to worry about being rejected by the other two vendors.

Because they weren’t competitors at all.

Jiang Xin was relieved that she successfully distracted Lin Ye.

Feeling much more at ease,

she immediately opened the sack, and while Lin Ye wasn’t paying attention, quickly retrieved two outfits from her space. They were the same style as the set she had given Lin Ye yesterday, just in different colors.

These were the lies she made up while talking to Lin Ye just now.

Lin Ye was still busily laying out the mat.

He must have done hard labor before, as he was quite adept and fast.

Almost as soon as Jiang Xin had finished stashing the outfits she retrieved from her space into the sack.

Lin Ye was already done laying out the mat.

When Jiang Xin raised her head from the sack, she saw Lin Ye had already walked up to her.

Jiang Xin shivered for a moment.

She felt lucky for her quick actions, avoiding being seen by Lin Ye.

Otherwise, the sudden appearance of a few pieces of clothing in the sack would surely raise suspicion.

Seeing Lin Ye approaching, Jiang Xin then casually pulled out the clothes she had just taken from her space from the sack.

If she had to sneak things before, now she could finally take them out openly.

Jiang Xin directly handed the clothes to Lin Ye.

"Here you go."

"I brought you work clothes."

Lin Ye took them with delight, looking at the two new outfits, overjoyed.

He smiled widely and was extremely happy.

He cherished the new clothes and put them away carefully.

After thanking Jiang Xin:

"Thanks, boss!"

"So, what’s next on our agenda?"

Lin Ye asked Jiang Xin about the next task while feeling the texture of the fabric.

After all, he was now a diligent worker striving to do well.

Jiang Xin thought for a bit; having completed the most important tasks, the next step was to get down to business and start selling.

Jiang Xin glanced at the sack in her hand, and began instructing Lin Ye to start working:

"Okay, pour everything from this sack onto the mat I asked you to lay out."

Lin Ye complied.

Since Jiang Xin had gathered quite a diverse range of items last night,

once they were poured out, it was quite a mess.

Jiang Xin scratched her head in resignation, thinking earning money wasn’t particularly easy either.

It required some effort.

Jiang Xin lowered her head, resigned to categorizing and organizing everything.

Seeing this, Lin Ye joined in to help.

The two of them took over twenty minutes to finish organizing everything.

Once everything seemed in place.

Jiang Xin began telling Lin Ye about the estimated prices and bargaining range for each item.

Then, the two started calling out to attract customers.

Since today’s items were fairly common, most people just looked at them.

Very few actually spent money to buy something.

After all, in this era, people’s earnings weren’t much to begin with.

So, when spending money, they were particularly thrifty.

Every penny spent was carefully calculated.

So naturally, they would save wherever they could.

Unlike food, which sells faster, Jiang Xin had anticipated this before coming to the market today.

So, having outlined some important points to Lin Ye,

Jiang Xin watched him as he called out to customers.

He was rather patient in attending to them.

Jiang Xin watched for a while, and seeing nothing out of the ordinary, she left.

After all, she remembered she had to meet with the landlady to view the property.

Jiang Xin checked her watch; it had been almost an hour since she said goodbye to the breakfast vendor’s landlady.

Jiang Xin figured this was a good time to find the landlady, as the morning rush for breakfast should have ended.

After all, it was almost lunchtime.

Who would still be having breakfast at this hour?

Just as Jiang Xin had anticipated, when she went to find the breakfast vendor’s landlady, she was already preparing to close up.

Seeing Jiang Xin coming, the landlady was somewhat pleasantly surprised.

Her customers were few and the time was just about right, so she was ready to close her stall.

Originally, she thought that since so much time had passed and Jiang Xin hadn’t come, she might have been stood up.

After all, for so many days, the hassle over this house was far too frequent.

So frequent that she couldn’t count them on one hand.

The landlady had lost track of how many times she had been stood up because of this troublesome property.

There weren’t any reliable ways to contact people at this time either.

Most families couldn’t afford a landline, so they could only rely on verbal agreements.

Therefore, it was common that people couldn’t be found and appointments were missed.

The landlady had been left high and dry multiple times, so after waiting a long while and seeing Jiang Xin hadn’t shown up,

she decided to close her stall and head home.

Just when she had packed up halfway,

Jiang Xin came along, fresh and lively.

It really was a surprise.

It turned out this young girl hadn’t lied to her.

Hehe, that’s quite nice indeed!
