Chapter 31: They Misunderstood Her
CHAPTER 31: CHAPTER 31: THEY MISUNDERSTOOD HER
The breakfast stall owner and her sister-in-law exchanged a glance, and both immediately panicked.
The two of them stared at Jiang Xin, uncertain about what she was thinking.
Could it be that upon entering the house and glancing around, she found the place not to her liking?
And decided to back out?
Judging by the situation, it wasn’t impossible.
After all, their house was quite spacious, with three bedrooms and a living room; for a smaller family, there really wasn’t a need to rent such a large space.
The key issue was that the rent was considerably higher.
According to people’s frugality in these times, many preferred to rent smaller spaces and use the saved money for more necessary expenses.
The breakfast stall owner’s sister-in-law panicked immediately.
Because these days, quite a few people came to look at the house, but not a single one was genuinely interested in settling down.
Her son was about to start school, and if this house couldn’t be rented out, their family would lose a source of income.
And it wouldn’t be just a small amount.
In this town, their family was just an ordinary working-class household, living off a fixed salary.
Though they wouldn’t starve, they weren’t extremely wealthy either.
They did plan to accompany their son to the provincial city for his studies.
It looked quite prestigious to others.
Their son got into a university, and the couple seemed to be basking in the glory, but in reality, only they knew that they were putting on a facade.
Over the years, most of their savings were spent on their child’s education.
After all, this was the crucial time for mental and physical development, and both of their salaries went towards tutoring their child.
Now, they really didn’t have much savings left.
With the school year approaching quickly.
If the house still couldn’t be rented out, by the time they reached the provincial city, without this income, their savings would be exhausted after renting a place there.
They would still need to live afterwards.
Without money, it would be difficult to move even a step.
How could the breakfast stall owner’s sister-in-law not worry?
Her anxiety was like a fire at the eyebrow, waiting to blaze.
It was hard enough to have someone come to look at the house; today, whatever the case, she had to promote this house well!
So, she looked at the breakfast stall owner and gave her a look.
Thinking that the owner should ask Jiang Xin why she wasn’t coming in and was just standing at the door.
After all, she wasn’t that familiar with Jiang Xin.
But the owner had to be more acquainted with Jiang Xin, since she was the one who brought her over.
Therefore, it was more appropriate for the owner to speak, and most importantly, the sister-in-law wasn’t comfortable dealing with strangers.
Though she also worked, she was quite reserved, which was why she remained diligent at her previous workplace for decades without a hint of promotion.
The stall owner hesitated for a moment, and upon receiving her sister-in-law’s signal.
The owner wasn’t quite satisfied with her sister-in-law either.
She thought to herself, her sister-in-law was unnecessarily troublesome; she had gone to the trouble of bringing someone to the door, and her sister-in-law still wanted her to speak up?
It was exasperating!
But there was no other way; if not for her sister-in-law, she still had to consider her brother’s sake.
Moreover, she did bring Jiang Xin to the door.
It was more appropriate for her to ask.
After all, she had interacted with Jiang Xin for the better part of the day.
So, under Jiang Xin’s puzzled gaze, the owner slowly spoke, questioning Jiang Xin:
"What’s the matter, why aren’t you coming in?"
"Is there something you don’t like about the house?"
"Why don’t we come in and discuss it in detail?"
Just as her sister-in-law thought, the owner also assumed Jiang Xin wasn’t interested in the house.
So she asked.
Jiang Xin was initially debating whether to ask for a change of slippers.
Or to maybe pull out a shoe cover from her bag.
But before she could open her mouth, she heard the breakfast stall owner speak.
Jiang Xin paused, swallowing back her words.
She glanced at the breakfast stall owner and her sister-in-law’s expressions and realized her hesitation had led to a misunderstanding.
So, upon realizing, Jiang Xin quickly reassured them:
"No, I’m not dissatisfied with the house; I haven’t even started looking yet. Only after I see it can I tell you anything."
"I hesitated earlier because I thought your house is really clean."
"These shoes have been through all sorts of things at the market; they’re a bit too dirty."
"I’m afraid if I just walk in, I’ll make the place dirty, and you’d have to clean up later."
Jiang Xin explained seriously.
After all, she was indeed concerned that if she walked in like that, it would be a big hassle for the sister-in-law to clean up afterwards.
The owner and her sister-in-law were also momentarily stunned after hearing Jiang Xin’s explanation.
Fortunately, the sister-in-law was quick to respond.
Realizing they misunderstood Jiang Xin, she immediately collected herself and spoke to Jiang Xin:
"No need, no need. How dirty can your shoes be?"
"One way or another, cleaning is necessary, just come right in with your shoes."
"Let’s look at the house first; everything else is secondary."
Having said that, the sister-in-law invited Jiang Xin inside, letting her walk in with her shoes.
After all, the priorities were clear in her mind.
Thus, without thinking twice, she pulled Jiang Xin through the door.
Then, she stepped forward to close the door.
Jiang Xin looked down at her shoes and was silent for a moment.
In the end, she chose to respect the wishes of the owner and her sister-in-law.
After all, the house belonged to them.
Listening to the hosts is never wrong.
Besides, Jiang Xin considered that some people might be especially particular about their personal items, especially slippers, not wanting strangers to use them.
So, it was possible that the owner hadn’t offered any slippers after hearing her words.
Of course, this was just Jiang Xin’s guess, and she couldn’t ask further.
Because it would be inappropriate.
Upon entering the house, Jiang Xin finally took a closer look at the layout of the home.
She noticed that the house was quite spacious.
Scanning around with her eyes, it was roughly over 120 square meters.
If she were living alone, indeed the space was a bit too large.
