CHAPTER 38: CHAPTER 38: ANNOYING IN-LAWS

How could he ever order food!

Lin Ye, looking at the menu handed over by the waiter, felt instantly at a loss.

Besides, Jiang Xin is his boss, it’s Jiang Xin who’s treating, so naturally, it’s not his place to take the menu and order food.

If he were the host for this meal, he could happily take the menu and order freely, but the problem is his current lack of ability.

Lin Ye braced himself, feeling more uncomfortable than usual.

The waiter’s hand holding the menu awkwardly paused in mid-air, noticing Lin Ye’s long hesitation, feeling a bit puzzled.

"Sir, do you need to order any dishes?"

"Please take the menu, otherwise, how will you know what our specialty dishes are?"

Seeing Lin Ye not taking the menu, the waiter had to speak again to remind him.

The waiter stood by, waiting for the two to place their orders.

Lin Ye thought for a moment, looked down at the menu in his hand, didn’t even open it, and without thinking, handed it directly to Jiang Xin.

Jiang Xin didn’t think there was anything wrong with this.

After all, eating is not just about catering to her own taste.

If she were to order for both, she wouldn’t know what Lin Ye likes to eat,

And Jiang Xin isn’t the type to insist on doing everything herself, if someone else can order for her, that would be perfect.

It saves her from daily dilemmas about what to eat.

So, after taking a look at the menu Lin Ye handed over, Jiang Xin didn’t use her hands to receive it. She just used a glance to indicate to Lin Ye that he should order.

But Jiang Xin was worried Lin Ye might not understand her gesture, so she added:

"You go ahead and order, I can eat anything."

"Mainly cater to your taste, after all, it’s not just me eating at this table."

Upon hearing this, Lin Ye nodded and placed the menu in front of himself, quietly flipping through and studying what dishes to order.

Though he doesn’t have much experience in this area, he has ordered before.

With just him and Jiang Xin, three dishes and a soup should be enough, plus two bowls of rice would make a decent meal.

But deciding what dishes to order was quite challenging, as he didn’t know Jiang Xin’s preferences.

Thus, Lin Ye only ordered a seaweed and egg soup, and a plate of stir-fried celery with noodles before handing the menu back to Jiang Xin.

Jiang Xin saw that the two dishes Lin Ye ordered were vegetarian, without a trace of meat.

Understanding the reason for Lin Ye’s hesitation while ordering, she simply added two meat dishes to the order.

One was braised pork, the other a plate of fish-flavored shredded pork.

After ordering, Jiang Xin handed the menu back to the waiter and waited for the food to arrive.

Since waiting for the food to be prepared takes a while, it was quite boring during this waiting time.

Suddenly, Jiang Xin remembered she hadn’t paid Lin Ye’s wages.

Normally, wages are only due after a month has passed.

But Jiang Xin thought about it, Lin Ye being a grown man couldn’t possibly have empty pockets.

So, Jiang Xin planned to pay him in advance.

After all, it’s just a matter of being a day early or late.

Jiang Xin took out the 100-plus yuan Lin Ye handed her earlier at the market, which was the income from today’s sales.

"This is your salary, please take it."

Now the house only has him left but life still goes on; every necessity costs money.

Hence, Lin Ye silently took his wage from Jiang Xin’s hand.

"Thank you."

Jiang Xin felt happy, thinking to herself that since work ended early today and the day was still quite bright,

she might as well go to the Department Store by herself, considering buying some new clothes.

Buying a few clothes was easily within her means.
