From Cannon Fodder to '80s Tycoon with My Space Supermarket
Chapter 44: Not Enough Money
CHAPTER 44: CHAPTER 44: NOT ENOUGH MONEY
Actually, it’s not just towards Jiang Xin; this salesperson doesn’t want anyone, including other customers, to spend any unnecessary money.
She’s different from her coworkers at the shop.
Her colleagues have good family backgrounds, with support behind them, so they don’t care about these things at all.
They only focus on trying to get customers to spend more money, making them buy more, just to earn more commission for themselves.
Whether the clothes fit the customer or are suitable is none of their concern.
Though she’s only been working for a few days, she’s already seen through all of this.
Feeling helpless while also a bit speechless.
Perhaps it’s because of her family’s background, they were poor growing up.
Kids from poor families grow up early; she’s witnessed countless times the scenes of her parents fighting fiercely because of lack of money.
So, she learned from a young age that every penny earned should be spent wisely.
Similarly, when dealing with customers, she thinks the same.
Her philosophy is to help customers find desirable clothes while making a profit herself.
This way, both sides are satisfied.
Besides, if a customer buys clothes that don’t fit, even if they don’t notice on the day, they might feel dissatisfied at home.
Then, they’ll come back to the store to return or exchange the clothes.
By doing this, she satisfies customers and avoids some after-sales disputes, making her job easier.
It’s a double win, so why not do it?
While waiting for Jiang Xin to change clothes, the other salespersons without customers were watching the scene coldly.
One couldn’t hold back and mocked:
"If I’m not mistaken, the two pieces you chose for her, even after discount, cost about thirty yuan together."
"She clearly said earlier she only has a little over ten yuan on her; why did you give her such expensive clothes?"
"Don’t end up working for nothing; you’ll suffer later."
The young salesperson waiting at the fitting room door was leisurely waiting for Jiang Xin to come out.
But suddenly, she heard the reminder from her colleague.
She froze, and then her face showed unstoppable regret.
She regretted forgetting this point.
While picking clothes for Jiang Xin, she was solely focused on how great Jiang Xin would look in them.
After all, Jiang Xin has an excellent figure and appearance.
Even the most ordinary styles would look stunning on Jiang Xin, possibly even better than the model.
Yet, she overlooked the price and forgot the fact that Jiang Xin initially said she had no money.
The young salesperson looked awkward.
She also felt a bit at a loss, since Jiang Xin was already changing into the clothes.
If, in the end, Jiang Xin liked the clothes but couldn’t pay for them, how embarrassing would that be!
Ultimately, the fault was hers for ignoring the fact that Jiang Xin had no money.
Now, she dared not to think of anything else, just waited for Jiang Xin to come out, pondering how to explain to her.
This incident indeed was her fault; her oversight led to this result.
Maybe once Jiang Xin comes out, she could introduce some other clothes with lower prices, affordable for her.
Otherwise, even though the clothes fit well, if she can’t afford them, she can only look at them longingly. She’s not the shop owner and can’t offer a discount.
The salesperson pondered various ways to resolve the problem, ultimately summarizing with two words... exchange.
Exchange for cheaper clothes.
That was the only solution she could think of.
While she was contemplating, Jiang Xin finished changing clothes and lifted the fitting room curtain, walking out.
As soon as she appeared, she instantly attracted many people’s attention.
The customers who were picking clothes stopped their actions and looked in Jiang Xin’s direction.
Just as the salesperson imagined, the outfit she chose for Jiang Xin looked absolutely perfect on her.
As if it was tailor-made for her, it fit exceptionally well.
Jiang Xin was like a walking mannequin, making anything she wore look great.
Jiang Xin was quite natural, not showing any surprise; she only found the fabric nice and comfortable to wear, which was enough to tempt her to make a purchase.
As for the gazes from others, she simply chose to ignore them, indifferent and not bothered.
She walked directly to the full-length mirror, glanced at herself, feeling quite satisfied.
Without hesitation, she spoke to the salesperson who had attended to her:
"I’ll take this one. I think it’s great. Please ring it up for me; I want to make the purchase."
As soon as Jiang Xin finished speaking, the store fell silent.
The salesperson who had attended her opened her mouth, trying to find the right words to explain the real price of the clothes, which Jiang Xin couldn’t afford.
She needed to phrase it gently; being too direct would hurt Jiang Xin’s pride.
About two or three minutes later, Jiang Xin was done looking in the mirror. Not receiving a response from the salesperson, she sensed something was amiss.
She turned to look at the salesperson, finding her hesitant and uncertain, not understanding what happened while she was trying on the clothes.
Thus, Jiang Xin voiced her question directly:
"What’s wrong? Did something happen?"
She had clearly said to the salesperson to ring it up for her, yet the salesperson stood still.
Obviously, something must have happened during her time in the fitting room, unknown to her.
Jiang Xin showed a hint of confusion, turning to the salesperson who attended her, awaiting her reply.
The salesperson, full of embarrassment, seeing Jiang Xin staring at her, realized she couldn’t hide it, so she gritted her teeth and straightforwardly explained to Jiang Xin:
"There’s a small issue with the clothes; please let me explain first."
"When picking clothes for you, I was just focused on how good they looked, and forgot your comment about only having a little over ten yuan."
