Chapter 31: “Let’s Spoil Your Dad Together, Okay?” – The Feeling of Being Cared For Is Pretty Nice!

By evening, the rain had stopped, but the sky remained overcast. Rong Shuang carried Jiang Youyou in her arms, stepping over puddles reflecting the glow of streetlights.

“Youyou, what does your dad like to eat?”

“Hmm… I don’t know.”

“It’s always about what I want to eat, or what his ex-wife wanted. He just goes along with it.”

“Youyou feels a little bad for Daddy.”

Jiang Youyou was so used to being taken care of that Rong Shuang’s question made her realize—her dad knew all her favorite foods, yet she had no idea what he liked. A pang of guilt hit her.

Rong Shuang patted her head, her heart aching a little for Jiang Feng. “Has he always been like this?”

Jiang Youyou nodded, her expression pitiful.

Rong Shuang smiled. “It’s okay. From now on, let’s spoil your dad together, alright?”

“Okay!”

“Let’s go see him first.”

“Yeah!”

When they reached the shop, a long line of customers had already formed outside.

4:52 PM

Jiang Feng wasn’t quite ready yet—the shop hadn’t opened.

The neighbors greeted Rong Shuang and Youyou warmly.

“Youyou, back from school? Want some candy from Grandma?”

“Teacher Rong, you’re here too! Hurry and help Boss Jiang open up—we’re starving!”

“I’ve been craving his buns for two days now.”

“My old man’s been pestering me nonstop. Will we get some today?”

Jiang Youyou replied politely, “Thank you, Grandma, but I’ll have Daddy’s buns instead of candy!”

“Daddy will be quick. Please wait a little longer!”

The crowd chuckled. Jiang Youyou was the spitting image of her father.

A few students nearby watched her with envy.

“I wish my dad were Boss Jiang. I’d get to eat his buns every day.”

“Same.”

“Lucky Youyou, having a dad like that.”

Rong Shuang exchanged a few words with them before heading inside.

She set Youyou down, her eyes lingering on Jiang Feng with such fondness it was almost palpable.

Jiang Feng averted his gaze, his expression slightly awkward.

“Daddy!”

Jiang Youyou dashed to the counter but stopped just outside the kitchen area—she knew she had to wash her hands before entering.

“Did you have fun at school today?” Jiang Feng asked.

“Not really. Teacher Rong wasn’t there. I missed her.”

“Daddy… I heard Teacher Rong confessed to you?”

Jiang Feng blinked. “How do you know that?”

“Hehe, your little cutie knows everything! Daddy, when can I call Teacher Rong ‘Mommy’?”

Jiang Feng ignored the question. “Go wash your hands, drink some water, and rest.”

Rong Shuang poured two glasses of water—one for Youyou and another she handed to Jiang Feng.

“Let me feed you,” she offered.

Jiang Feng shook his head. “No need. Just leave it there. I’ll drink it later.”

“Okay.”

Though rejected, Rong Shuang wasn’t upset. She sat with Youyou instead.

She liked Jiang Feng, but she wouldn’t push him into anything he wasn’t comfortable with. If he said no, she’d respect it.

Soon, Jiang Feng finished prepping and opened for business.

The evening rush was intense—some customers had even driven forty minutes just to eat there!

Word about Jiang’s Buns was spreading beyond the neighborhood.

The regulars warmly chatted with the newcomers.

“After eating, clean up your own table. Boss Jiang doesn’t have staff—just him and his daughter.”

“If he spends less time cleaning, he can make more buns.”

At first, the new customers found it odd—since when did patrons bus their own tables just to save the owner time?

But fifteen minutes later, they wiped their tables spotless before leaving.

Damn, these buns were heavenly!

Why waste a culinary genius’s time on chores?!

The vegetable vendor arrived with his wife and two sons, ordering thirty buns and four bowls of congee.

Jiang Feng refused their payment—he never forgot those who helped him.

Touched, the vendor sighed to his wife, “Boss Jiang’s character is unmatched. What kind of woman would divorce a man like him?”

His wife glanced at Rong Shuang and whispered, “She’s been around him a lot lately. Why isn’t anything happening?”

The first time she saw Rong Shuang with Jiang Feng, she thought they were perfect together.

Just get together already! What’s the hold-up?!

She wanted front-row seats to this romance!

“Maybe because he’s got a kid,” the vendor mused.

“Or maybe they’re taking it slow.”

After a few bites, they focused on eating.

6:26 PM

Two barrels of congee and two thousand buns—sold out.

A few customers lingered, but the rest dispersed good-naturedly.

“See you tomorrow, Boss Jiang!”

“Take care of yourself—don’t catch a cold in this rain. We need those buns!”

“See ya!”

Jiang Feng waved them off. “Take care. Tomorrow, same time.”

Rong Shuang and Youyou got to work—clearing trash, disinfecting tables, mopping.

The more customers there were, the cleaner the tables became. The regulars had unofficially turned into self-appointed staff.

Jiang Feng scrubbed the kitchen, separated raw and cooked utensils, and mopped the floors.

By 7:00 PM, the shop sparkled like new.

Jiang Feng exhaled in relief.

Thankfully, the time spent car shopping hadn’t hurt business. Today’s earnings were strong—his bank balance had jumped from 80,000+ yuan to 115,000+.

Revenue: 35,675 yuan

Ingredients: ~2,300 yuan

Even factoring in rent and utilities (tax aside), his daily net profit still exceeded 30,000 yuan—nearly a million per month!

And his system points had crossed 100,000—enough for a mid-tier lottery draw!

The thought eased his fatigue.

“Let’s eat. Want buns again, or should I buy something else?”

Jiang Feng didn’t mind, but he worried the girls might be tired of buns yet too polite to say so. He always gave people an easy out.

Youyou and Rong Shuang shook their heads in unison.

“Buns!” Youyou declared.

“I could eat your buns forever,” Rong Shuang sighed, resting her chin on her hands like a lovestruck girl.

Jiang Feng brought over twenty buns and three bowls of congee.

“I’ll deliver Cui Hao’s order first.”

“Okay.”

He dropped off thirty buns next door.

Cui Hao grinned. “Hey, want to grab a drink later? I’ve got braised pork, marinated beef bones, and Dawusu beer!”

Jiang Feng declined with a laugh. “You guys go ahead. I’m wiped—just gonna eat and head home.”

“Fair. Your shop’s booming. Even I’m benefiting.”

With Jiang Feng’s overflow customers, Cui Hao’s sales had skyrocketed—enough to make the whole street envious. Some had even offered extra rent just to be Jiang Feng’s neighbor.

Back at the shop, Youyou and Rong Shuang had set the table but waited for him.

“Dig in. You must be starving.”

Youyou blinked. “We wait for Daddy.”

“Teacher Rong wanted to wait too.”

“Daddy, Teacher Rong treats you so well, right?”

Her face screamed: Open your eyes! Where else would you find a wife like this?!

Ugh, this family would fall apart without me.

Jiang Feng chuckled. “Alright, let’s eat.”

As he sat, both Rong Shuang and Youyou immediately picked up their chopsticks—each placing a bun on his plate.

“Thank you for today,” Rong Shuang said softly. “Seeing you made me happy.”

“Daddy, you worked hard! When you save enough, Youyou will take you and Teacher Rong on vacation!”

A warmth spread through Jiang Feng’s chest.

Back when he lived with Xu Na, he was always the one serving her and Youyou. Occasionally, Youyou would reciprocate, but Xu Na never had.

Being cared for… really wasn’t bad at all.
