Chapter 63: The Painting at the Auction
CHAPTER 63: CHAPTER 63: THE PAINTING AT THE AUCTION
Caden Hawthorne looked at her coldly, "Miss York, please have some self-respect!"
As soon as he finished speaking, Caden Hawthorne stopped looking at Yvonne York and turned to leave directly.
Meanwhile, Yara York had already arrived in front of Vivian and Riley Hawthorne.
"Yara, what are you doing here?" Seeing Yara York appearing, Riley Hawthorne’s face changed slightly.
Yara merely glanced at Riley Hawthorne without answering and arrogantly turned to Vivian, mocking, "Vivian Lynch, do you think marrying Caden makes you something special? You’re just a nobody from the slums, totally unworthy of Caden."
Upon hearing this, Riley Hawthorne immediately stood up to protect Vivian, "Yara, watch your mouth. My sister-in-law and my brother are truly in love, it’s not your place to criticize."
Yara snorted, "Truly in love? Who knows what tricks she used. Maybe she only forced Caden into marrying her because she’s pregnant with his child, right? Hmph, just wait! Sooner or later, Caden will see your true colors."
"Yara, where do you get your confidence? Are you sick or something?" Riley Hawthorne couldn’t help but roll her eyes after hearing that.
Vivian watched Yara quietly, her face showing no trace of anger. "Miss York, I understand that your sister likes Caden, but I don’t understand why you’re here acting out as her sister; anyone would think you’re the one who likes Caden."
Upon hearing this, Yara’s face turned bright red with anger, "Vivian Lynch, what nonsense are you talking?"
"I think my sister-in-law is right! Your sister didn’t say anything, but you’re rushing to get scolded, huh?" Riley Hawthorne crossed her arms in front of her chest and couldn’t help but make a face at Yara York.
"You... don’t get cocky, Vivian Lynch, I’m telling you, my sister is a hundred times better than you. Caden will regret marrying you sooner or later." Yara threw out these fierce words and stormed off.
Just then, Caden Hawthorne came walking over, and his gaze swept over her coldly.
Yara was so frightened that she immediately lowered her head and quickly walked over to Yvonne York.
Caden Hawthorne walked to Vivian and Riley’s side, concernedly asking, "What happened? What did she say to you just now?"
Before Vivian could speak, Riley Hawthorne angrily said, "Brother, that Yara is too much, she came over to accuse sister-in-law of being unworthy of you and said you’d regret marrying her sooner or later."
Caden’s face darkened, and a hint of coldness flashed in his eyes.
Then, he turned to Vivian and said gently, "Vivian, don’t mind them. You are my wife, and that fact will never change."
Vivian smiled while looking at Caden Hawthorne and nodded, "I know, I won’t let her words affect me."
Caden gently held Vivian’s hand, giving her strength and comfort.
At that moment, Yvonne York saw how gently Caden cared for Vivian, especially seeing them holding hands tightly, and felt a stabbing pain in her heart.
In hindsight, she shouldn’t have gone abroad back then; she should have confessed to him earlier.
If she had, surely the woman standing by his side now would have been herself.
Thinking of this, Yvonne subconsciously clenched her fists, jealousy flickering in her eyes.
At this point, Yara walked over to Yvonne, whispering, "Sis, that Vivian Lynch is too arrogant, we can’t let this go."
"What do you want to do?" Yvonne turned her head to look at her sister.
Yara unwillingly looked at Vivian and Caden, "Sis, are you just going to give up like this?"
Yvonne sighed, "What can I do if I don’t give up? Caden is already married, and soon he’ll be a father, what can I do?"
Yara clenched her fists, her face filled with rage, "Sis, Caden married Vivian Lynch because of the baby; I investigated, it was Grandpa Hawthorne who forced Caden to marry her."
"What?" Yvonne was surprised, "Was it arranged by Grandpa Hawthorne?"
Yara nodded and continued, "Sis, Caden doesn’t like Vivian Lynch at all, it’s purely because she’s pregnant with his child. If her child is gone, then surely, Caden would divorce her."
Upon hearing this, Yvonne fell into deep thought, murmuring to herself, "Yes! If Vivian can’t give birth, will Caden still want her?"
Seeing her sister wavering, Yara quickly pressed on, "Sis, as long as we find a way for Vivian to lose her baby, Caden will come back to you."
Yvonne was startled and quickly reprimanded, "Yara, don’t talk nonsense. We cannot do such a thing; it’s immoral and would hurt many people."
Yara was unfazed, "Sis, you’re just too kind. Don’t you want Caden? Isn’t this your wish since childhood? Why give up just because of a little setback?"
Yvonne remained silent; internally, she was already wavering, but still a bit hesitant, knowing Caden’s temper; if provoked, he’s capable of doing anything.
"Yara, don’t do anything foolish, let me think it over."
Yara saw her sister’s attitude softening and was secretly pleased, but didn’t dare push too hard, obediently nodding, "Alright, Sis. I’m just kindly reminding you."
Meanwhile, the charity banquet was still proceeding lively, with the auction segment about to start.
The host stood onstage, holding a microphone, speaking passionately, "Ladies and gentlemen, we are about to enter tonight’s charity banquet’s auction segment. The proceeds will go entirely towards charitable causes, bringing warmth and hope to those in need. Now, let’s welcome the first item — a landscape painting by a famous artist. This painting’s profound artistic value comes from its intricate brushwork and unique style. The starting bid is half a million yuan, with a minimum increment of fifty thousand yuan. Let the bidding begin!"
Guests below raised their paddles one after another, and the bids came one after another.
Looking at the painting, Vivian felt an inexplicable sense of familiarity.
"Vivian, what’s wrong?" Noticing Vivian’s odd expression, Caden Hawthorne couldn’t help but hold her hand, concernedly asking.
Vivian shook her head slightly, "I just feel like this painting seems familiar, like I’ve seen it somewhere before."
Caden furrowed his brow slightly, contemplating the painting on stage for a moment, "Where have you seen this painting?"
Vivian tried hard to remember, "I’m not really sure, it’s just a feeling, gives me a familiar feeling."
Upon hearing this, Caden patiently explained, "This painting is a work by the famous artist Violet White; her intricate brushwork and unique style give it high artistic value."
Saying this, Caden looked at Vivian with a faint smile, "Speaking of which, your painting skills are quite similar to hers. But this artist retired and returned to family life."
