CHAPTER 485: THE BOY WHO TRIED TO FIX EVERYTHING (PART TWO)

After his parents left, Micah exhaled, running a hand through his hair. His chest felt tight, a mixture of guilt and exhaustion twisting inside of him. He turned toward Albert Ramsy. "Grandpa, tell me honestly... why did you bring Mum here?"

Albert Ramsy shifted his gaze from his cane to his grandson’s face. "Your father asked me to," he said, voice calm. "You and your mother...you two have always been the closest among us. But lately...it’s been easy to see how this," he gestured vaguely, as if the whole switch at birth ordeal was too absurd to name, "has put distance between you. Your father was worried about how your mother bottled up everything inside, and all of this had begun to take a toll on her health. We thought a bit of confrontation might help you two stubborn people finally talk, especially your mother."

"Well... I have no idea that Mum was this shaken. I thought she was holding up fine." Micah said with a sigh. He paused, rubbing the back of his neck. "But I can’t just leave the Edwood family like this either. I’ve been thinking...Maybe I should move them to one of my apartments near campus. It’s quiet there, and the security’s good. Why don’t Mum and Dad stay there for a while? That way, we can all be closer and maybe get comfortable with each other again."

Albert’s brows rose slightly, but before he could answer, the adjoining door opened again.

"That’s not a bad idea. I’ll talk to your mother about it once she’s rested," Jacob said, stepping in and closing the door gently.

"How’s Mum?" Willow asked, stepping beside Jacob.

"Asleep. Finally."

Willow’s shoulder relaxed. "Good. I was thinking of taking her to a psychiatrist for medication if she got worse."

"Oh.." Micah dropped his head. "I’m sorry. I didn’t think Mum would be this affected...."

Willow let out a sharp exhale. "Of course she would. For pity’s sake, she is your mother! You know how deeply she loves you." Her voice rose slightly, but it wasn’t anger. It was worry disguised as scolding.

"That’s enough," Albert said mildly. "Micah, speaking of which, why did you want to see us here, anyway?"

Micah hesitated before moving toward the centre of the room. He rested his hands on the back of a chair, gripping it lightly as if steadying himself. "There is this guy at school," he began. "Annoying, to put it nicely. He’s been fixated on Darcy. The problem is he is a scheming jerk. He’s been using my name in online forums to get closer to Darcy. I hate these kinds of people the most. And once Darcy’s identity as a Ramsy becomes public, there’ll be more of them... people trying to use us, twist things for their gain. I won’t let that happen."

Jacob exchanged a look with Albert, then nodded. "Alright. I’ll arrange a team to monitor anything related to him and stop anyone from smearing dirt on him."

"Thanks, Dad... really," Micah said, relief flickering across his face. "Then I’ll head out. I still need to pick some furniture for the new apartment..." He stood up straighter and turned to leave.

"Was that all, Micah?" Albert asked.

Micah paused, gripping the handle tightly. His back stayed turned, but his eyes softened, filled with something rawer than before. "I’m sorry," he said quietly. "For all the trouble I’ve caused over the years. I know I’ve disappointed you more times than I count. But please, just this once, have a little faith in me. Help me fix this." His voice trembled slightly, though he tried to keep it steady. "I promise I will bring him back and all become a happy family. He is stubborn and prideful, just like the rest of you, honestly. But he is also caring and loyal like you. He could never leave them, just like you couldn’t leave me." Micah chuckled. "It’s funny, really. You are all so alike, yet none of you can get along."

None of them spoke, just listening to Micah.

Micah went on, his words tumbling out faster. "I know I shouldn’t have butt into this. I know I should’n’t have tried to force you all to do things my way. It wasn’t my place to interfere. You can’t push people to reconcile. But if I leave him alone, it’ll be harder to bridge that gap later. I already hurt him once by hiding the truth. I am out of chances now. One more mistake and... I can’t mess this up again."

The hush that had settled over the room broke when Willow stepped closer and patted his shoulder. "You overthink too much, Micah. And you are too anxious. We are a family. We can overcome anything together. Why do you keep acting like everything is your responsibility?"

Albert spoke. "Willow is right. You’re not alone in this. If you think something is fishy, if something worries you, like today, don’t try to handle it yourself. Come to us. We’ll keep an eye on things."

"Really? Even if I don’t have any proof? You won’t think I’m just being paranoid?" Micah asked quietly, holding the handle even tighter.

"That depends," Albert said. "We can’t just accuse anyone and punish without evidence."

"I thought so too," Micah mumbled, his expression dropping. "Thanks anyway. I’m going then."

Micah stepped out and left the office without waiting for a reply. He feared they would notice the disappointment that was written all over his face.

He knew it was asking for too much, to expect his family to trust him when he couldn’t even explain why he was so certain about the danger ahead. He had no evidence, no names, no real clues. Only what he remembered from the book. The vague plot about Ramsy family’s downfall, about enemies working in the shadows, about Darcy caught in the middle of it all.

But those details were blurry, fragmented. The novel hadn’t given him enough.

He didn’t know who the enemy was, how they struck, or even when. All he knew was that everything started with Darcy.

The only thing he could do was bring Darcy to the Ramsy Empire and let him work his magic. And he would watch from the shadows over him, using Clyde’s power.

In the end, he couldn’t be much help to anybody.

Micah pressed the elevator button and went straight to the underground. He wasn’t in the mood to interact with others.

He quietly left the Ramsy company and went to his apartment near campus.
