CHAPTER 63: NIGHT WALK

Julian kicked a pile of debris as he walked forward, on his face an expression of tiredness.

He looked at the sky, misty and looking like an ocean, seemingly like he could swim in it.

He decided to take a walk, unprotected, without guards. He decided he wouldn’t have to go too far. At least to where he would be seen.

He should be sleeping at the moment. His only reason for coming out here being to pick chips and add to his Exoin fragments.

He was told the dead bodies were kept at the end at a garage-looking place.

Well, walking at this time of the night shouldn’t cause any harm, but for some reason, deep down, Julian knew he shouldn’t be doing this. His earlier aim had been to pick up the Exoin fragments, but now, he decided to use this medium to explore.

The tangible texture of the city’s buildings was awe-inspiring. But then, Julian wouldn’t look at them the same way as when he first came here, at least not when he saw that they easily fell.

Him seeing spaceships crash into the houses or some vehicle going through it and bringing it down had made him think less of the buildings.

They were made of steel, and so he had been expecting them to at least be tough and easy, even though a little, to break.

But then, with how the little things demolished it, Julian thought that perhaps the houses were made of sand, because only sand could fall that easily.

Nevertheless, the buildings were beautiful and came in different shapes and sizes. Julian couldn’t really see them clearly as he was just a few footsteps past the governor’s building.

Remember, there is a large expanse of land in front of the governor’s building which separated it from the city, and now, Julian was about reaching the middle.

To be honest, at this point, he wasn’t really sure where the dead bodies had been kept. He thought he told them to keep it not far from his building.

Or was it at another area in the city?

He seemed to be the dumb one right now. The possibility of it being at the city was pretty low, since it was corpses, and he was sure they would be reeking badly.

The whole point of this chip collecting was really baffling. But then, it needed to be done as it would be valuable in upgrading stuff.

He remembered he had used eleven when he took on those steel monsters. The eleven he used to power the quaking device.

The city shone brightly with light, and as Julian watched, he could hear the soft music of perhaps an orchestra playing.

Seems the city wasn’t so broken after all. He had never even bothered to ask. But he decided the next time, he would request for a map of the planet.

And by map, it would actually be an electronic map as he had hardly seen paper since arriving here.

In fact, he had never seen paper here. Seemed the planet was too ’techy’ to have one.

Julian noticed that the city had skyscrapers, some were tall but without a half; the roof down to half of it had been destroyed.

Same with many. Some were only debris. He wondered where the inhabitants of the house would dwell.

Perhaps they would simply reside at a friend’s or just beg for shelter. By the looks of it, everyone was nice, so he was certain that wouldn’t be a problem.

The still-standing lissome skyscrapers seemed to dance in the city light.

Julian looked at the sky again—it had no moon. It was just black and dark and misty. Almost foggy even.

He looked at the city again. He was surprised they still had electricity after the war that had happened, but then he remembered hearing from either Matt or Zayn that the city had an underground supply, and so that was where their energy source was powered from.

This made Julian think what would happen if it wasn’t underground. A complete darkness.

Perchance, this was where the Drayyorsains were very smart. They knew they depended on tech, and some of the techs needed to be powered up to work.

So anytime they faced attack, they weren’t really disturbed with having to lose electricity. Now, what powered the electricity, Julian didn’t know.

Not wanting to be left thinking, he simply used his History Vision skill (which to him, was now the best of his powers).

He saw a weird line of wire, some strange steel, and then, a cacophony of wiry sounds.

Julian listened.

And then, he saw something like a crevice-looking device, a bit small in size, harboring a very tiny crystal—a color red crystal.

Julian was surprised.

A crystal.

He peered his eyes, doing so like it would give him a much better view of what he wanted to see.

Nonetheless, he saw the crystal more clearly now.

It was globular in shape and very smooth.

Julian made a face.

His mind raced.

How would a crystal power a whole planet? He had thought they had a machine that produced electricity. How the fuck was it a crystal?

Julian was sure there would be some sort of large machine underneath the ground that did the stuff, but now, he was seeing this?

How powerful then was the crystal? How powerful was it that it could light up a planet?

Julian walked forward, cogitating on this. He tried to use the History Vision, but all he kept seeing was:

[Limited]

"Damn!"

Seems he would have to ask Matt or one of the guys when he got inside.

But then, perhaps they would be too bloated with wine and meat to give him a good answer.

They would simply reply him vaguely based on their brains not being fully functional.

He decided he would do so tomorrow.

He had been his normal self the whole time, just him clothed in a planetary governor kind of clothing—no galactic armor at this point. He was literally vulnerable to attacks.

He decided to summon the galactic armor on.

Crsshhkk!

It came on.

It would be helpful too, since the helmet gave a kind of ultra vision which enabled him to see clearly in the dark.

At this point, all he had to do was sort of activate the glow.

He squinted his eyes quite deeply, and then, it turned golden.

Now golden, he could see everything around him clearly.

"Where the corpses?" he asked Xea, not wanting to further waste time.

Xea replied: ’[Go straight and then turn to your right. It’s in an open place, but far from where anyone would be. It’s like this so as not to irritate anyone.]’

Julian nodded in the affirmative.

"Thanks," he said, and walked forward, doing what Xea had told him. To some extent, Xea was now part of him.

And the fact that it was all-knowing was the best. Meaning any question he asked would be immediately answered.

Although some might need a bit of scanning, he still got his answer nevertheless.

He took to the right, a large expanse of land facing. He wondered why there was another large expanse of land. Did it somehow lead to somewhere?

Julian squinted his eyes, and then, far off, he could see a large multitude of the dead soldiers.
