CHAPTER 169: RECORD

When that happened, a second body flew to that spot, his sword ablaze with flames, though he did not have the strength to get up.

Above the combat arena, the mage couldn’t even attack. His magic was quickly met with an onslaught from a swordsman, Jenna, and an assassin, Rich, that prevented him from even having a chance to do anything.

Not even 1 minute had passed when all five of the Broken Blade fighters were lying on the ground.

They were strong, yes, but they were overconfident.

Leaving an illusionist against someone who was all about pure, explosive force like Andrew was a mistake, and if their leader got into a silly fight he couldn’t win against the strongest of the group, it would be worse.

But even worse, having the two who could act as "tanks" attack Elliot, the one who has more control in 1-on-1 fights, sentenced his magician to incapacity.

He had no one to attack cleanly, because the illusionist did nothing else despite slowing down his opponents a bit at the beginning. He didn’t grab anyone. He simply went head-on to make a mistake and was taken out in seconds.

Their main attacker ran into a tough wall, and their two tanks ended up getting rolled up in a fight that they quickly lost. They couldn’t hurt Elliot, and he was able to hurt them.

Chris had almost nothing to do but assist Elliot in the fight.

In an overwhelming display of power that had never been seen before in a match in this category, the Broken Leaf bout ended in a landslide victory for Angelic Wave.

It was so overwhelming that it took time for the fans to process.

Looking at the time it had lasted, it read a mere 31 seconds.

The countdown almost lasted longer than the fight itself.

The stands were in shock and a stony silence hung in the arena for a long time.

Elliot looked at his opponents and smiled at them.

"It looks like even bringing foreigners won’t do any good this time for you guys, " he said, walking next to Jenna and the rest of the team outside the bout.

The system itself announced the winner of the bout.

[Angelic Wave wins against Broken Leaf].

[Angelic Wave sets record for finishing a match in Arce Kingdom Level Leagues: 31 seconds 05 milliseconds].

[Angelic Wave has recorded the youngest age group ever seen in the Maple Kingdom Leveled Leagues and has won their first match].

This message went out to all members of the Angelic Wave Guild and was reflected across their networks for those who were not awakened on screens throughout the guild.

Even in the Awakened Guild, it was posted by the System itself; everyone could only stare in shock at what was being revealed.

Meanwhile, they were wondering what had just happened?

When the members of Broken Leaf walked off the stage, embarrassed, their master stared at them.

"You lost, but not because of weakness, but because you are idiots." He spoke.

The five lowered their heads, especially the swordsmen. They had made grievous mistakes.

"We’re sorry. We got excited seeing that they were young and thought we’d win." Their sincerity softened the leader’s frown a bit.

He sighed and shook his head helplessly. "Let’s go back. We’ll go over all the mistakes that were made today. Anyway, we knew the first week would be difficult for us." He said, turning around to lead them out.

Truthfully, he felt humiliated by the looks everyone was giving them, and he didn’t know how he was going to face the sponsors and such, but there was nothing he could do but walk.

--

Returning to the dressing rooms, Elliot simply sat quietly to see if the others’ results had come out, but, naturally, they had not. Then he got up and looked at the teachers and Stewards, who were watching the team casually walk by.

"Anything to say?" he asked.

"Hahaha." Steward leaned back against the back of the chair. "Nothing. I’m surprised this time. The prepared strategy didn’t do any good."

"Hahaha, they made all the mistakes they could make in a moment, Mr. Steward." Laughed Rich as he took a drink of water. "They’re such idiots that they underestimated us, but that fight would end at the same speed even if Chris and I didn’t participate." He added.

He wasn’t the only one who thought that way.

If anything, the point wasn’t that they would have won in a landslide. It’s that they only needed three members to do it!

With characters like that on the same team... Steward honestly began to fear that they would make his teammates feel inferior.

But he was absolutely certain that neither Chris nor Rich was up to the task, and Chris’s look told him so. He felt inferior.

He had his own pride and was being attacked.

Rich was the least affected, but it was due to his condition. Maybe something was affecting him inside, and it could be translated into his sleeping hours, where he has been training more lately.

’Sigh. I guess it’s the side effects of meeting unparalleled geniuses.’ He thought after a sigh.

But now he was worried.

They were showing a lot of superiority. The talent of the three of them was absurd. If he had put them next to the Twins, the Twins would have attracted much more attention. After all, it would be a group of five Monsters together.

Could anyone beat them or make them suffer?

In the back of the room, several TVs broadcast different games. Some were finding trouble, and others had fallen into a stalemate.

While many were finding it hard to warm up after time away from a wrestling arena, the reality was that no one was being that superior.

That made the danger even greater.

He needed to do something.

He stood up suddenly and spoke to them.

"Let’s go back to the guild. Tomorrow is a match against the House of Fire, I consider them a tough opponent, so you should rest." He said.

"Very well."

They returned to the guild. They didn’t need to go over strategy, but they kept an eye on the day’s winners within the group, which ended without many surprises.

Elemental Academy beat Personifications, and House of Fire beat Aquatic Longing.

After watching their matches, they could see the strengths of each team. It was shocking, but there was a predictable equality among the four, although Elemental Academy still looked quite a bit stronger than the other three.

Still, all four didn’t make as many mistakes as Broken Leaf. So, the tension of one of the most important tournaments beginning was felt in the atmosphere.

Back at the guild and having rested for the afternoon, Elliot knew it was a good time to get moving.

Things were speeding up, and he knew it: he was in no condition to stay too long in this city.

His strength was growing, but that was causing him to be more showy in the eyes of the world.

People don’t usually forgive summoners, even less so if it’s one as talented as he is. So he must find a way to destroy the Clark before leaving here.

That night, after dressing in dark clothes that covered him completely, he went out into the city.

The first thing he did was to go to the area of the Misfits, more precisely, where Jeff was staying.

KNOCK*

After a knock on the door, someone quickly opened it for him.

Jeff didn’t know what to say, but he opened the door and let him in, lowering his head.

"How are things going?" Elliot asked.

"Just fine, Youn-, hm, sir?" he replied.

Elliot just shrugged and looked at him.

"You’ve issued 11 missions, 10 of which have succeeded, and the last one was a failure. Did you get caught by that one?"

"No, sir. It failed because of the government; apparently, they’re looking for you."

"Me?" Elliot raised his eyebrows, and Jeff nodded.

"They found out you did something at Agora. Or well, there are suspicions."

"Ohh." Elliot was interested. "Are the government orders coming from way up high, or is it someone reachable?"

"The way they’ve been doing things..." Jeff thought about it momentarily and then was sure of his answer. "I’m sure it’s the work of the Secretary of Government."

"Why so sure?"

"Because I’ve taken orders from him before, too. He has a peculiar way of working, that man. So I’m sure he has something to do with it."

"Interesting." Elliot smiled, though he was actually a little worried.

Not only was the government involved, but he was literally the city’s political leader!

They were in deep with this.

’What a problem.’ He thought, but revealed nothing on his face.

He pulled out some bank cards and put them on the table.

"Get on with the job. And give me any information you’ve been able to gather recently from the Clarks."

"Yes, sir." Jeff began to tell him what he had discovered.

It turns out that the Clarks also move in during major events to do their misdeeds. It’s not something unique to the House of Fire; it’s more like how that organization operates.

After learning as much as he could, Elliot smiled.

’You guys aren’t that smart, but I must say you’ve got guts.’
