Gamers Are Fierce
Chapter 231 - 230: Making a Move
The Stonemason felt his heart suddenly cease to beat. His strength rapidly drained as his whole body, staggering, toppled onto the shelves.
His vision darkened continuously. In his unconsciously dilated pupils, the image of a heart soaked in a formalin solution was reflected.
Is this... an abnormal organ...
Caught in a deep illusion, the Stonemason seemed to see a middle-aged white man with pale, bushy sideburns and a beard, emerging with ease from a luxurious carriage stopped on the side of a dense forest.
The man wore a shirt, vest, and coat—the standard attire of a 19th-century upper-class gentleman. He leaned on a wooden cane, exuding an air of superiority.
He stepped down from the carriage, glanced at the workers busily felling twisted trees, and with a cryptic smile, said softly to the butler behind him, "Tell the workers not to discard those bent black trees. Use them to construct houses."
The butler calmly nodded. "Yes, Lord Williams."
When the illusion broke, the Stonemason, whose heart had paused for over ten seconds, summoned his last ounce of energy. He shakily grabbed the craft knife and activated its Special Effect.
[Name: Handy Craft Knife]
[Type: Weapon]
[Quality: Rare]
[Attack Power: Low]
[Special Effect: Mailed Blades. Fires several metal blades capable of causing minor explosive damage within a thirty-meter range directly in front of the knife.]
[Consumption: Number of blades * 20 Spirit Power Value]
[Cooldown Time: 10 seconds]
[Equipment Requirement: Strength Attribute greater than or equal to 6, Agility Attribute greater than or equal to 6]
[Remarks: Sending out blades, an embodiment of my longing.]
[Remarks: One slash, and Tang Sanzang could become six and a half Sanzangs.]
[Remarks: Once the blades are depleted, they must be reloaded manually.]
Upon activating the "Mailed Blades" Special Effect, four metal blades shot out at high speed, CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! CLANG! embedding themselves into the glass cylinder holding the heart.
After a brief delay, the blades embedded in the glass exploded with a BANG! The blast shattered the glass container and even caused the entire shelf to tip over.
Leaning on the shelf for support, the Stonemason was dragged towards the ground by gravity. He watched helplessly as the thumping heart rolled out with the splattered formalin onto the floor. With a sickening SPLAT! it was crushed under a pile of miscellaneous items that fell from the shelves.
"HISS—HAAH," the Stonemason gasped, struggling for breath. He could feel his own heart beating once more, blood pumping back through his organs, and the darkness in his eyes gradually giving way to color.
After a while, he crawled up from the ground. Carefully, he lifted the pile of miscellaneous items and, with his craft knife, fished out the flattened heart.
"Williams... 1830."
「————」
[Abnormal heart cleared. Six abnormal organs remaining.]
Forest Cat heard two System alert tones in succession and couldn't help but sigh in relief. "Phew, two organs dealt with so quickly. This proves my teammate is still alive and quite capable... That's great."
At that moment, she was in a pyramid-shaped room, flashing her flashlight back and forth.
The room wasn't particularly spacious and was decorated mainly in red and gold. A beige handwoven carpet lay on the floor, scattered with dark red wool pillows. These pillows had tassels at their corners resembling golden wheat ears. Colorful, exquisitely embroidered silk curtains in vibrant hues hung on the slanted walls. On a table near the corner of the room lay several narrow incense boxes crafted from gold, silver, and jewels, alongside some animal masks made of black wood.
The ceiling above was adorned with heavy canvas, painted with colorful depictions of the sun, stars, and moon. Beneath these patterns stood a round table covered with a thick purple silk cloth. A Crystal Ball and a stack of Tarot Cards rested on the table, flanked by two small leather chairs.
"A Gypsy Witch's Divination room, eh?" Forest Cat muttered to herself.
Gypsies are a nomadic people who originally settled near West Asia. Around the 10th century, they began to disperse across the continents, leading a nomadic life with a relatively low social status.
A Gypsy Witch, in contrast, is often associated with mysterious elements such as witchcraft, Magic Potions, Tarot Cards, and Crystal Ball Divination.
"The Fool, the Mage, the Priestess, the Lovers, the Chariot, the World..."
Forest Cat serenely held a wooden pointer. Using its tip, she lifted the dusty stack of Tarot Cards on the table and recited their names one by one.
"Missing the Devil Card," Forest Cat murmured, using the pointer to lift the thick purple cloth covering the table.
Her proficiency in occult studies was quite impressive. She had been able to use Tarot Cards to competently predict her classmates' fortunes as early as elementary school, mainly thanks to the seemingly eccentric grandmother with whom she had spent her childhood.
As for the effectiveness of Tarot readings... Forest Cat was not optimistic.
If Divination were truly effective, how could my parents have died in a car accident? How could my grandmother have passed away from grief? And how could I have left everything behind to seek a living down south...
The woman from the north—Forest Cat—shook her head, casting the jumbled thoughts from her mind. She seriously pondered the meaning of the missing Devil Card.
"The Devil, corresponding to Capricorn, symbolizes pleasure, temptation, and pure, boundless joy. The card depicts a red-skinned devil with goat horns and bat wings, chaining human slaves."
Forest Cat tapped the table with her pointer and muttered, "My teammates have already dealt with two abnormal organs. Although I don't know how they solved the puzzles, I'm sure the riddle can't be too difficult, nor would it require a particularly brutal fight—otherwise, I would've heard the combat by now. So, where could the Devil Card be..."
She scanned the room, her gaze wandering until it finally settled on the table in the corner, which held many black wooden animal masks.
"The Devil Card, the Black Goat..."
She pursed her lips and extended the pointer toward a wooden goat mask resting on the table.
Suddenly, an extraordinary change occurred!
The still goat Mask was lifted by an invisible force, spinning as it flew towards the window. In the light of the wall lamp, Forest Cat clearly saw two shriveled, dark red human lungs attached to its back. The two lung halves, one on each side, corresponded perfectly to the goat's cheeks.
Is this the abnormal organ?!
Forest Cat certainly couldn't let the Mask escape. She swung her pointer, releasing a pair of pink hands made of Energy. They slammed heavily against the wall with a THUD! sending a shower of plaster down.
The pink palms clamped tightly around the Mask, which was halfway to the window. However, the Black Goat Mask struggled violently. Forest Cat had to wave her pointer again, making the pink hands slowly increase their pressure in an attempt to crush it.
Suddenly, the goat Mask confined within the pink hands stopped moving. The lungs on its inner side rapidly inflated, frantically drawing oxygen from Forest Cat's throat in some unknown manner.
In just a moment, Forest Cat lost most of her strength. Her hands weakly clutched her throat. Harsh, guttural gasps of "HURK! HURK!" escaped as she struggled for air, her eyes involuntarily rolling white.
BANG!
The door was kicked open. Li Ang burst into the room, shouldering two petrified thighs still clad in white ballet tights and gripping two stone arms in his hands, looking like a crazed fiend. His sharp gaze fixed on the Black Goat Mask in midair as he shouted, "What demon is this?!"
With that, he swung an arm at it.
When it's time to strike, strike.
