Genetic Extra In The Apocalypse
Chapter 44: Silence.
CHAPTER 44: SILENCE.
{{My apologies for the late update today. I had exams, and just got back home to write. My goal for this month, was to write 4 Chapters daily, but with my schedule , 3 daily is what I can manage, so I can focus on my exams... balancing writing with academics is not exactly an easy thing.
Though I’d still try to produce 4 Chapters during the weekends. And if you wish for even more Chapters, you know what to do... GT, PS... I’m open to them all. Enjoy, and once again... I’m sorry}}
A large crowd of youths had already gathered before the tall black gates, standing tall and wide as though trying to seal the abyss.
Amongst them were even figures of powerful families in Elysium, arriving in different fashion.
"Hey... Be careful... Both of you," Richelle said to both Sean and Drew, and they nodded.
They parted from her, and made their way to join the crowd in standing before the collosal black gate.
Sean’s eyes scanned through the crowd, taking note of people, their interaction, mannerisms, and body habits. At the same time, his eyes also searched for figures he might recognize amongst the prominent family... the main casts he had read about.
At one corner, several redhead youths stood together, their expressions tight, and posture erect. Rather than students preparing for an exam, they were like soldiers preparing for war.
In their midst, stood an odd one. Compared to his other family members, he was quite short, and his posture was loose as compared to theirs. He seemed utterly relaxed, and even his hair was messy.
’Hilton family...’ Sean mused as his eyes studied them for some seconds, before shifting to the short man in their midst. ’Blaze Hilton’
Just like their red hair would suggest, the air around them, was quite hot, and any breeze that came from their direction, was discomforting, as it clashed with the cool air.
To another side, a group of blonde youths stood together. Their expressions were haughty and nonchalant, as compared to the tense expressions of others.
Amongst them, a young woman with blonde hair styled in a ponytail stood still with her eyes closed and shut from the world. Her posture was incredibly relaxed that one would think she was sleeping, but the slight, continuous twitch of her furry ears said otherwise.
’Croft...’ Sean took notice, documenting their family in his mind, a family of lightning users like him. Then his eyes remained on the girl.
"Emma Croft," he muttered softly.
The girl’s eyes flew open, and her head turned as though searching for something, before landing on him.
Sean raised a brow. He already knew her hearing was good, since asides lightning, she also had sound affinity, coupled with the fact that she was genetically enhanced, but he did not expect it to be this good.
He doubted even he would have heard his name from that distance, especially with the noise and chattering of the crowd.
Emma’s eyes remained transfixed on him, as though trying to bore into his soul and see what he was made of. He could even feel his body tingle slightly, feeling as though he was in a field of static electricity.
His lips deliberately curled upwards, as they kept their gazes on each other. Her control over lightning was impeccable... For her to be able to affect him all the way from that distance.
Not only was he a lightning enhanced human as well, he was genetically enhanced by a spider. The combination of the two senses, made detecting electrical charges and static in his surroundings easily detectable... Controlling them on the other hand, was something else entirely.
Yet under her gaze, without even any fluctuation of mana from her, these electrical charges danced over his skin like the crawl of insects. He was genuinely impressed.
Eyes soon began to turn in his direction, as the Crofts took notice of their young Miss’s reaction. Their expressions hardened somewhat when they noticed that he was not averting his gaze. It was as though he was engaging in a staring contest with her.
Under the combined weight of their gazes, the tingly sensation on his body intensified, comparable to being continuously zapped by electricity. But unlike her quiet control, this time the flutter of mana from them, was detectable.
Drew who was standing beside Sean, felt his body tremble and he took a step backward. Standing close to Sean felt like he was continuously being zapped by electricity, and he had to move.
Others who were standing remotely close to Sean also felt the sensation at varying degrees, and distanced themselves from him, the reactions drawing even more eyes to the spectacle.
"What are you looking at? You punk!" A young man amongst them queried, eyes holding Sean like he was looking at a street rat.
Sean did not reply, eyes still locked on Emma as though trying to decipher something about her.
His disregard only seemed to fuel the Crofts even more, particularly the young man who was ignored. He stood quite close to Emma, and the intent of his actions were easily readable.
The fact that a person that was not from any of the six noble families, wasn’t a vampire, and clearly wasn’t the progeny of a high ranking military personnel, yet dared to antagonize them, was lost to him. What was even more enraging, was that Emma had decided to humor him.
Sean wasn’t averting his gaze, and neither was Emma. To Julian Croft, the young man, it was like a slap to his face. Since they had already held gaze for so long, and the white haired boy wasn’t averting his gaze, Emma couldn’t do so as well.
Especially with people now interested in knowing what would happen.
Julian broke formation from the Crofts walking towards him with calm bold steps, but his eyes hid venom from Sean’s constant disrespect.
"Who are you?" He questioned as he approached... but like the first time, Sean ignored him again.
Drew from the back, watched what was going on with a tense expression. He wanted jump in and help, or diffuse the situation somehow, but he couldn’t even withstand the field of static. How Sean was doing that, was a surprise.
At the same time, he couldn’t call Sean to stop, as not only would that be defeating Sean’s momentum, it would also reflect poorly on Richelle, essentially making a mockery of the sibling pair.
"I asked you a question, didn’t I?" Julian voiced a notch louder, as lightning snaked across his body, standing in front of Sean, and cutting his line of sight from Emma.
Sean finally paid him attention, his gaze travelling the young man’s form, from head to toe. To him, this situation was perfect. He came here to dominate and he would do so.
"No wonder you’re where you are. You are as foolish as you’re untalented. Was it ass kissing or perhaps your parents that enabled you to come this far?"
Silence.
