CHAPTER 63: AGAINST DEATH

Before now, Sean had been feeling the nagging sensation of danger, but was yet to lay his eyes on the source.

It was like that time in the pits, like the time in Duke’s Haven, and now...

His third affinity, he didn’t know what it was, but from what it did, it seemed related to death. He didn’t know if he could call it death sense, but he felt that this was only a fraction of what the ability was.

Of course, he had already thought of the probability that it could simply be an affinity for death... A death affinity. He had read enough books on Earth, with death affinities.

But this world only possessed elemental affinities, not conceptual ones. And even if he did, how to use it, he didn’t know. He couldn’t just wish for someone to die, and they die. While he would certainly like that, he knew it was only a wishful thinking.

Or it could be that he was not yet strong enough to kill anybody with just a thought. The fact that the affinity cells, lied on his cerebrum — the centre of thought, also suggested that.

Perhaps one day when he was strong enough, killing people with a thought would be possible, but that day wasn’t today.

He felt a tug on his wrist, and the air around him stirred, only for it collapse the next instant.

A small smile curled up his lips, he could almost imagine Richelle’s expression, and how frightened the examination overseers must be now.

This was why he had timed everything perfectly... Well, as perfect as his knowledge and thinking could allow him. If Richelle had pulled him out before the collapse, then everything he wanted to do would be for naught.

The Gate was much larger than the space the students had been confined in to have the examination, and were even said to theoretical lead to a different dimension, or dimensions.

The part where the exam was being carried out, was confined to an artificial spatial barrier, that only held in a limited and controlled number of out-worlders.

It was also this spatial barrier that caused the students to be scattered and isolated from other students upon entering the gate, and what enabled the participants to be teleported out when they used the red, emergency button.

Now that the barrier had been shattered however, pulling any one out through that method, was impossible, and dying...

If before dying was only a possibility for some students, now it was almost certainty, as an overwhelming number of out-worlders would quickly rush to the area.

Even if one could hold their weight, how much long, would they be able to survive the onslaught, until they were saved.

Even Sean was not safe from this fate. And even worse, the person who had unleashed this madness,by some methods he had no idea of, was coming towards him.

He was tall, and handsome, pale skin and heterochromatic eyes. One was pitch black, as though it wanted to swallow the light of the world, and the other was blood red, threatening to paint the world it’s color.

His arms were covered in scales, and his fingers graced with matte-black claws.

Sean’s spine tingled upon seeing him.

The young man who looked not a day older than about eighteen years old, looked at Victor and raised a brow.

"Who is he?" He asked.

Victor pursed his lips. "It’s him."

The man blinked as though hearing wrong. "Him?"

Victor’s eyes darkened and he remained silent, his eyes fixated on Sean.

The man’s attention turned to Sean... Whiter hair, black eyes, and that unmistakable aura of calm and arrogance, that all of them... All descendants of that demon carried.

It was ironic, considering that when compared their appearances, he looked more demon than Sean could ever be.

"Why is he alive?" He asked Victor, but his eyes never left Sean’s.

Now that he paid attention to Sean he felt that if he averted his gaze, he could lose his head the next instant.

He didn’t know if it was a reaction borne from the psychological pressure that, that demon’s family carried, but he didn’t dare test it.

In fact as he stood, he couldn’t any aura at all from Sean, as though he could snuff the boy out with a breath should he wish to, but a continuous nagging feeling wouldn’t leave him.

Standing before him he felt like he was looking at...

"Death..." He muttered.

"You have death affinity," he said to Sean. His tone was more of a confirmation for what he believed himself, than asking a question.

Victor’s eyes constricted into pinpricks.

’Death affinity?!’

Sean’s eyes narrowed. He had already suspected that his third affinity was a death affinity, but to hear it outright, was still surprising.

What was even more alarming was that the man could deduct that, by just staring at him...

His heart steeled, and his pulse slowed. His death sense — a name he had conveniently chosen for his ability to sense death, ringing continuous alarm bells in his head.

On the other hand, the man himself became even more cautious. Not only was the Whitlock alive when he wasn’t supposed to, he now also possessed one of the most terrifying affinities in the universe.... Death!

His danger assessment of Sean, was at its peak.

"We’ll attack him together. I don’t know why he’s still living, or why you are living either, but he can’t be left alive." The man said, his eyes still trained on Sean.

Victor’s heart trembled. To think he once believed he could take Sean on his own.

For even Malek, as snotty nosed, talented and arrogant as he was, to be still be unsure of his chances of killing the Whitlock, that he even had to employ his help...

It seemed he still ended up underestimating the demon spawn. No.... He had severely underestimated him.

But just like before, the end result would still be the same.

As for Sean himself, his mind just kept flickering as to why things had suddenly gone to a 2 v 1 right off the bat.
