CHAPTER 49: CHAPTER 49: BUG

Su Changxing looked at him unexpectedly and asked, "How did you figure it out?"

Huang Biao smiled and said, "Everyone has a pattern to their speech. It was a guess initially, but now I’m quite sure."

Su Changxing mused, "What if you’re wrong?"

Huang Biao said confidently, "Impossible."

"Get ready."

Su Changxing pulled the fuse on the Signal Stick and tossed it forward.

"Sizzle~"

The Signal Stick landed perfectly at the stairway entrance, lighting up the dim corridor. Heavy and hurried footsteps echoed from the stairwell.

Seconds later, a high-frequency scream, like that of a child, reverberated through the passage, making dust on the ground jump in rhythm.

Su Changxing felt a bit dizzy and experienced ringing in his ears, but as expected, it was still bearable. He immediately took out the Shadow Bow from his back, notched an arrow, and shot as soon as a Zombie poked its head out.

An arrow pierced through a Zombie’s forehead accurately, causing it to fall backward, as three more Zombies charged forward.

These Zombies were astonishingly fast, reaching the two in the blink of an eye.

Su Changxing raised his knife and split open the brain of one Zombie, while kicking another away.

Despite being in a dazed state, Huang Biao managed to take down a Zombie with a powerful chop, clearly indicating his immense strength. However, he only struck the chest and did not kill it.

Su Changxing approached, stabbing through the kicked Zombie’s head, unleashing bone shards and flesh bits into the air.

"Damn, their bones are harder than other Zombies’."

Huang Biao cursed, slashing twice more to kill the Zombie. He could have killed it with one chop had he not underestimated the bone hardness and failed to exert full strength.

Meanwhile, the scream ceased with the fall of the Zombies, and calm returned to the corridor, as if everything was just an illusion.

Su Changxing shook off the black blood from his knife and said, "This creature is quite intelligent, using the scream to coordinate with Zombies. There must be more Zombies on the next level below."

Huang Biao shook his head, hesitating, "Should we go down now?"

Even though there’s a floor between them, he still found it difficult to endure the scream, experiencing constant ringing in his ears.

Su Changxing whispered, "We’ll lure the Zombies up here first and clear them out before anything else."

He judged that the creature probably had weak close-range abilities, relying on strong Spiritual Attacks while controlling Zombie movements,

suggesting its control over Zombie actions is a technique to compensate for its lack of close-range strength, in simpler terms, it’s a Spiritual System monster.

Su Changxing led Huang Biao to the stairway entrance, finding it piled with dried corpses and bones, extending to the stair’s corner, with glimpses of police uniforms among them.

He stopped at the stairway entrance, solemnly stating, "Many people must have died here once."

Perplexed, Huang Biao looked at Su Changxing, "Hmm?"

Su Changxing pondered, "Humans don’t turn into Zombies after dying. These people must have been trying to run from below but crowded the stairway and then died here for some reason."

Huang Biao inhaled sharply, "That means, before people in this world completely turned into Zombies, this monster was already born."

"Seems like it."

Su Changxing pulled out another Signal Stick and threw it down, curious if the creature would be enraged and rush up.

The Signal Stick struck the wall with a fiery glow and bounced to the floor below, the deep red light illuminating bodies and bones in the corridor, bringing light to the long-standing Darkness.

Unsprisingly, another scream echoed, seemingly with anger. Upon close distinction, it sounded like the scream of a young boy whose vocal cords hadn’t fully developed.

Chaotic footsteps sounded from downstairs again.

At least six Zombies!

"Run!"

Su Changxing shouted, sprinting backward while simultaneously preparing his Shadow Bow, stopping ten meters away and looking back as Zombies emerged from the stairway.

An arrow shot past Huang Biao’s ear, piercing through the first Zombie’s skull.

Su Changxing ran further back. These Zombies were different from those outside, incredibly fast. Facing more than three simultaneously could get him injured.

Stopping at the entrance, Su Changxing turned around to shoot, taking down one Zombie.

Five Zombies remained in the corridor.

Before the Zombies reached him, Su Changxing shot another arrow, which was diverted by the scream, hitting a back Zombie’s chest, only causing a brief pause.

Actually, killing a Zombie with an arrow wasn’t simple; though arrows had high penetration, their wounding area was small, only hitting the upper right brain could inflict fatal damage.

The two kept running outside.

Three armed men waited outside, ready to charge, but found the Zombies had already turned away.

"Huh, they’re back out again and not dead."

Cai Jing said while holding binoculars.

Lin Xiuyu stood next to her, looking down and said, "They must not have gone down, only probing above cautiously. Now they might back off knowing the difficulty."

Cai Jing suddenly said, "They’ve gone back inside."

"······" Lin Xiuyu.

Zombies that flee.

Su Changxing looked back at the Zombies running away again, reminding him of online gaming, where monsters have a hate-value area; beyond this area the hate vanishes.

His mind suddenly sparked with ideas, as if discovering a glitch.

If these Zombies are confined to the police station, they could gradually wear them down like gaming monsters.

Su Changxing, with a mysterious smile, said to Huang Biao, "I might have a better method."

"Huh?"

Huang Biao sensed Su Changxing’s gaze, feeling a bad omen.

After resting for a few minutes, they entered the police station again, Su Changxing standing twenty meters away from the corridor opening with his bow and arrow.

Huang Biao, holding a Signal Stick, walked towards the corridor, stopped at the stairway entrance, and then cursed loudly, "Monsters, here’s your Grandpa Huang. Dare to come up?"

After a silent moment, footsteps and the familiar scream echoed again from below.

Huang Biao turned and started running, shouting, "Brother, be ready, they’re coming up."

Another wave of seven Zombies rushed up; Su Changxing immediately shot one Zombie dead and quickly prepared another shot for a different Zombie.

Thanks to reduced running time, Su Changxing shot an extra arrow this time, hitting successfully, while Huang Biao turned and chased, killing a Zombie.

This time, they finished off five Zombies.

"Haha, it’s thrilling, brother."

Huang Biao laughed heartily, putting a hand on Su Changxing’s shoulder, looking relieved.

Su Changxing scoffed, "What interests me more is that you can actually curse them into coming up."
