Chapter 77: Mutilated Corpses
CHAPTER 77: CHAPTER 77: MUTILATED CORPSES
In a fleeting moment, Su Changxing felt a chill in his chest, followed by intense pain. His whole body tensed, his strength suddenly dissipated, and he collapsed heavily to the ground.
He didn’t know what had happened, nor how the Giant Infant had managed to attack him, just felt as though someone had suddenly stabbed him.
The sound of vibrations came from outside, and a large number of vines quickly surged into the pipeline.
Without any pause, Su Changxing crawled forward, the blood flowing from him tracing a long mark on the ground.
Then, he got up and continued to run forward. Through the dim light, he could see that the end of the pipe was blocked by an iron grille, but there was a big hole in the lower left corner of the grille.
Su Changxing slipped through the hole, leaving the vines blocked outside.
He didn’t stop and continued running forward.
He needed to be far enough from the monster to feel safe; the "Giant Infant" had attack methods he couldn’t fathom.
This should be Shield Company’s internal sewer, and as he went further, the path became increasingly narrow, forcing Su Changxing to crawl.
He crawled for more than twenty meters, then noticed iron bars overhead. He pushed them aside, climbed up, and looked around in the darkness, finding no Zombies.
Leaning against the wall, he slumped to the ground, feeling dizzy due to the massive blood loss. The surroundings seemed special, with rows upon rows of cabinet-like structures before him.
One pull out revealed an iron bed.
"Is this a corpse incinerator? Why would Shield Company have this sort of thing underground?"
Su Changxing quickly judged that this seemed to be a crematorium, a place dedicated to burning corpses.
This type of furnace just required placing the body on the iron bed, pushing it into the incinerator, and soon the body would be burned to ashes.
Su Changxing took out matches, lit a torch, and planted it on the ground for illumination.
Then, he removed his tattered coat, opened his undershirt, and checked the wound on his chest.
It was a stab wound.
"It looks like it was caused by a throw, fortunately, it missed the heart..."
Su Changxing suddenly froze. It seemed that he was the one who threw the steel saber at the "Giant Infant", yet he was the one injured.
"This isn’t scientific."
He furrowed his brow, pondering the situation, as things grew strange, and these monsters began to defy the rules of physics.
"Could it be some kind of reflective injury ability? I attacked him, so the one injured was me. If my throw hadn’t missed, I would have died directly."
Su Changxing analyzed, breaking out in a cold sweat, as life and death were a matter of moments ago.
He relented and spared himself.
"Isn’t this kind of monster invincible? Attacking it results in identical injury; even possessing the ability to kill it one would not dare to make a move."
Su Changxing took out bandages purchased from the Mysterious Shop, wrapping them chaotically around his chest to stop the bleeding.
His physique was now very strong, even after being stabbed through, he could still maintain certain mobility.
Taking out his phone, he found a task had been posted.
[Side Task: You have found a terrifying entity in the sewer that might be an existence you will never forget.
1. Kill it. (Pointing to a possible position promotion or generous reward)]
Promotion?
Su Changxing noticed keenly that it referred to it as promotion rather than advancement; thus, promotion should mean the quality of the rank.
The Dreamer’s quality is Upper Rank, and if promoted again...
Well, he didn’t know what promotion would result in.
Check character attributes.
Name: Su Changxing
Power: 4.9+0.6 (Far above average human)
Speed: 5.6+0.6 (Extraordinary)
Physique: 3.7+0.6 (Far stronger than average human)
Perception: 1+0.6 (Animal level perception)
Spirit: 5+1.2 (Extraordinary)
Position: Tier Nine Dreamer (Upper Rank) Compatibility 80%
Status: Severe Injury
Evaluation: You have encountered a powerful existence, at least far stronger than you. Initially, you could have escaped unscathed, but your reckless actions caused you severe injury. Meeting a stronger entity should always keep one humble.
Su Changxing confirmed that the "infant" indeed had reflective injury ability, nearly 100%.
Su Changxing staggered to his feet, carefully examined the surroundings, finding nothing but a few corpses not yet incinerated.
These corpses were not intact; they seemed to have been partially dismembered before arriving here.
Su Changxing walked over, locked the door, laid out his sleeping bag, and forced himself to sleep despite the intense pain.
It was unknown how much time had passed.
Su Changxing slowly opened his eyes in the darkness; the chest pain had vanished. He lit a torch and checked his wound to find it had only left a scar.
"I must say, truly a terrifying ability."
Su Changxing couldn’t help but ponder, tore off the bandage wrapped around him, took out his phone, and realized it was already seven o’clock.
"Seven o’clock..."
Su Changxing suddenly remembered the discount store would refresh at seven-thirty, so he exchanged items from the shop to prevent them from disappearing after the refresh.
There were five bottles of 1L water, four boxes of self-heating rice, and four steel sabers.
He couldn’t carry four steel sabers, needing to sell at least three. As for the self-heating rice, he was just hungry, ate two boxes, and put the other two in his backpack.
But he had to sell at least two bottles of water; otherwise, he couldn’t carry them.
Su Changxing exchanged the items, placed them on the ground, and wielding the torch, he pushed the door open and went out.
Very strange.
The floor of the hallway was clean, without dust, as though it had been swept. But who would sweep a place like this in the end times?
Su Changxing frowned, instantly growing alert; if there were other people, they were likely survivors in this world.
At present, his impression of these survivors was very poor, if encountered, he would act immediately.
They were naturally opposed.
This matter might have risen to a different world’s level.
Su Changxing cautiously extinguished his torch, as it might expose his position, and quietly moved forward.
He pushed open the opposite room’s door, which appeared to be a makeshift dissection room, with shelves displaying many bloodstained tools: scissors, knives, pliers...
And on the bed, a corpse with limbs severed and the abdomen hollowed out.
However... it was a fresh corpse, with blood on the dissection table not yet fully solidified.
"Could it be someone from our world?"
Su Changxing felt chills as he noted this person’s eyeballs and tongue had been removed, sparking imaginations.
He looked around, seeing other dissection tables with similar corpses but not as fresh.
Su Changxing pondered, contemplating the next step, then squatted beside the door.
The room returned to silence.
