Chapter 257: Position swap
"Would you like to switch positions with him?"
Little Ye suddenly said.
"You can do something like that?"
Although Little Ye claimed she wasn't Lin Ye's hallucination, Lin Ye still unconsciously regarded her as something similar to one.
"Can't do it elsewhere, but here I should be able to manage it."
Little Ye revealed a somewhat gentle smile.
"Then I'll trouble you. Although I don't particularly like this place, I'm definitely more accustomed to standing beside the operating table rather than lying on it."
Moreover, Lin Ye really wanted to know if this doctor could remain as calm as he was now if their positions were swapped.
"Then let's switch positions."
Little Ye didn't make any preparations or perform any unnecessary movements—she simply spoke one sentence, and Lin Ye found himself standing beside the operating table.
"What's happening? Why am I lying here? No!"
The doctor lay on the operating table, restrained by straps with electrode patches attached to his head.
The instruments were still running, and those 'jellyfish' immediately noticed the doctor. They pounced onto him, their bodies merging with his.
Each 'jellyfish' occupied a part of the doctor's body. Those brain tissues wriggled inside him, causing the occupied areas to rhythmically pulsate like breathing.
"No! Get me down quickly! Damn it! Untie me! Please save me, I don't want to turn into a monster..."
The doctor's voice gradually faded as his body separated into eight parts of varying sizes. These parts detached from each other, left the operating table, opened the door, and fled the treatment room.
Shouts of alarm echoed from outside the door as the patients were terrified by these scattered, running doctor parts.
"They run pretty fast."
Lin Ye remarked with admiration.
The orderlies stared blankly at Lin Ye—this was the first time they'd encountered such a situation and didn't know how to handle it.
"You all saw it—I didn't do anything just now. He disassembled himself using this equipment, and I couldn't stop him."
Lin Ye indicated that everything had nothing to do with him;
he was merely an innocent bystander.
"...Don't move! I'll report to the superiors immediately. They'll send someone to handle this."
The orderly hurriedly took out a communication device and reported the situation to the higher-ups.
Before long, three doctors in white coats entered the treatment room. They first sprayed some light blue medicinal liquid around the room before beginning to inspect the instruments.
"You can leave now."
One of the doctors said to Lin Ye.
"Okay, can you get them up there too?"
The latter part was directed at Little Ye. Others seemed unable to hear his conversations with her.
"I can, but if I put all of them up there, you'll definitely be taken to the testing area by the administrators here to become experimental material. I won't be able to help you over there."
Little Ye stood there very ladylike, watching Lin Ye and indicating she could turn those doctors into disassembled doctors at any time.
"Then never mind. I don't want to be captured and taken to the testing area."
Lin Ye walked out of the treatment room and made a pill-taking gesture to the patients outside.
The patients understood immediately and all prepared their red-blue capsules.
Lin Ye was taken by the orderly to the adjacent lounge, where he was temporarily alone.
"Are you planning to escape from here?"
Little Ye sat down beside Lin Ye, keeping him company while waiting for the inspection to conclude.
"I haven't decided yet. Even if I get the access card, I know nothing about the situation upstairs. Going up there would be too risky."
A hard object was tucked at Lin Ye's waist—it was the tall doctor's access card. While the other was attaching the electrode patches, Lin Ye had casually pocketed the card.
The entire process only used the index and middle fingers of his left hand and took less than a second.
"I don't think you can leave from this side. This place feels more dangerous to me than over there."
Little Ye didn't know the correct escape method either;
she just had this feeling.
"Is that so? I understand. I'll handle it appropriately."
If Lin Ye wanted to perfect his escape plan, he needed to visit the testing area. Otherwise, if his judgment was wrong, the entire plan would completely fail.
"That's good then."
Little Ye didn't say more. She didn't want her feelings to influence Lin Ye's judgment.
After some time, all patients passed the instrument inspection. Thanks to Lin Ye's reminder, no one else encountered problems.
After the testing concluded, the orderlies returned the patients to their respective wards and then distributed a disgusting dinner to them.
"Are you going to eat this?"
Little Ye looked at the gray-green viscous fluid on the meal tray with clear disgust.
"No, I ate a lot at noon specifically so I wouldn't need to eat dinner."
Compared to dinner, the cafeteria food was relatively normal.
"Then would you like to go have some decent midnight snacks?"
Little Ye pushed open the ward door as if the orderly had never locked it.
"Yes, can I go to the testing area for midnight snacks?"
Lin Ye followed Little Ye out of the ward. The orderlies in the corridor acted as if they couldn't see them, completely ignoring Lin Ye as he passed by.
"No, that place is dangerous. If you go there, you'll probably become someone else's midnight snack."
Little Ye led the way while Lin Ye followed behind her.
"Then where are we going?"
Lin Ye asked.
"To the cafeteria, of course. They have some decent food there."
Little Ye happily led the way, and the two soon entered the cafeteria interior.
"...What the hell are all these things?"
Lin Ye couldn't help but exclaim.
The cafeteria interior was completely different from daytime. The walls were covered with red organs of various shapes, clusters of colorful bright flowers and ash-white weeds grew from the floor, and small animals with peculiar forms jumped and played in the grassy patches. But before long, they would be swallowed by the grass as if they had never existed.
"Not bad, right? This is a buffet—you can source whatever you want to eat right here."
Little Ye took out an iron pot and pulled up a handful of ash-white weeds, throwing them into the pot.
"We're eating this for midnight snacks?"
Lin Ye grabbed a deformed small animal covered with arms. It didn't resist but instead obediently jumped into Little Ye's pot, seeming almost eager.
"You want to eat this? Then we should eat separately. I don't really like its texture."
Little Ye took out another iron pot and handed it to Lin Ye, then threw the small animal into Lin Ye's pot.
"No need, I don't want food poisoning. I'll just eat what you make."
Lin Ye didn't believe Little Ye would specifically bring him here just for midnight snacks—this meal surely offered some benefit for their subsequent actions.
"Are you sure you want to eat what I make?"
Little Ye looked strangely at Lin Ye—she had just learned cooking last night.
"Yes, anyway I don't know how to handle these ingredients either."
Lin Ye watched as Little Ye plucked a still-beating heart from the wall and placed it in the pot. He suddenly felt uncertain about his earlier judgment.
"Then leave it to me. I guarantee you'll have a midnight snack you'll remember for life."
Little Ye revealed a confident smile.
"Uh, it doesn't need to be that memorable... A normal midnight snack would be fine..."
Lin Ye watched as various ingredients gradually filled the pot, his sense of unease growing stronger.
